That's definitely been true, but I think a part of the low FG% is we had an offense that doesn't actually create any open shots.
Regardless of what statistic or advanced metric you look at the only offensive state where we're in the top half of all college teams is in offensive rating, at 157/364 and 2PA at 155/364 (and FT/FTA but that's not always indicative of actual offense) it's just barely.

Those are bad numbers, but you could tolerate them if you were a super strong defensive team, but we were only a slightly above average team, and that is just as much a factor of our pace as anything else.

IF you didn't watch a single game this year (lucky you), this tells you the story of Kevin Kruger's style. We slow the ball down, we shoot it poorly, we don't share or get good shots and we value ball security over offense, but at our offensive pace we are punished much more for each TO. Our points are only as high as they are because we draw a decent amount of fouls and shoot a lot of free throws. On defense we bend don't break, don't pressure the ball but play adequate defense. This season was as unpalatable brand of basketball as I've seen at UNLV. If you look at the low water mark years--Grg/Howie/Cle we averaged 10 more points a game with much better shooting but much poorer defense. Bayno's first year was as close as I can get on metrics, and that was a team where guys like Eddie Corbet, Kevin James, and Chancellor Davis were getting a TON of minutes and your front court was 6'7" Tony Lane, 6'4" Warren Rosegreen, and 6'5" Clayton Johnson or Menzie's first year where homeboy had lost everyone after Beard cleared them out. Even Rice's last 2 years which were poor for him were still better statistically.
This was one of the 3 worst offensive teams ever at UNLV. Ever.
