Who is your top choice to replace KK?

I refuse to accept the University would be dumb enough to go back to that well in hopes it saves Dedan...
Agreed!

UNLV needs a clean break from everything Kruger, yes even their favorite assistant!

What’s next Hartman gets hired and Kevin is an assistant in waiting?

Our own personal “groundhog” day! Lol

It’s not a popularity contest, has Hart been a HC? No!

There are plenty of other potential HC’s out there, Harper needs to keep looking!
It is to an extent, donors and boosters aren’t going to be ponying up cash to someone they don’t get along with. Hartman is a solid coach, just has not been a head coach. He’s obviously in consideration because of his connections and people’s experience with him at UNLV. Not to mention he is an ACE recruiter.

I think with Hartman, he can be a better version of Bayno. Someone that can attract talent and get UNLV back to the dance, I wouldn’t expect anything more.

I don’t think he gets the job because of his lack of head coaching experience but if unlv strikes out on Crean, Keatts, Drew etc. then he might be considered at that point.

That one word sums it up… you “think” he could be like Bayno?

He has not been a HC so there is no track record at all as to what he can do if he was HC.

This hire is too important to hire Hartman, it just is!

Are we really talking about settling for a "better version of Bayno"... man, that's just awful low expectations...
There's such a better list of coaches than settling for a "Ace recruiter with 0 HC experience".. we don't need ace recruits- we need an identifiable style of play, a coach with Xs and Os upside, charisma, and desire that can win a conference and make a tournamen.. it does require "Ace" talent to do that and certainly not a lifetime assistant with 0 HC experience.

I have Bayno rated higher than Rice.

Seems K State and Arizona did ok with head coaches with no head coaching experience.

Neither of those are UNLV. Both enjoy having a P4 budget and a P4 pedigree. And ask KState how much they enjoyed their coach this year... hes also barely above .500 in 3yrs
It’s a needle in a haystack engagement. How many assistants did we cycle through in football before we hit gold with a former head coach? Our second best coach Robinson another former coach.

Neither was Bayno before UNLV hired him, hence the comparison.

Obviously he was a highly sought after assistant. I do think Hartman is a little more prepared for the job than Bayno was, Bayno was young when he took the job and suffered from the obvious pressures of the job. Hartman is a family guy and obviously would avoid those pitfalls that some prior coaches have fell into.

Hartman will bring in talent, he will connect with donors and fans. He has before. Again he’s probably not the top choice, but if that’s who we roll with, I’m not going to poo poo the hire. I’ve said for years he’s a talented guy that has the potential to be a great coach and was baffled given his resume that he was second in command to CKK.

IF he’s hired, let’s wait and hear from him on his plans for the program before bringing out the pitch forks.

UNLV is a mid tier MWC program, maybe worse than that. A Bayno-like hire would be incredible given Bayno won tournaments and the league and 2 NCAA appearances.

I reflect from time to time. 97-98 team. Should of had Keon Clark, Greedy Daniels and Lamar Odom. That team should of been a Elite 8 team at the worse. That team was loaded. Lamar Odom was a game changer. Lead scrub Rhode Island team deep in the Tournament almost single handedly.

Some folks can’t see the forest for the trees, you see how it should be but some are too busy looking back and can’t be in the present and definitely can’t see the future!

A former HC is what works so far in football which is arguably harder to get going than basketball but some here are stuck talking about another assistant with “so-called” upside?

If we hire an assistant for basketball, I just don’t see that as a positive!

I don’t think anyone is disputing that an experienced HC is the primary objective of Harper, he has said multiple times he preferred experience at highest levels than an assistant.

But what can you do if you cannot afford a certain coach or they aren’t interested in UNLV? Hartman is clearly a backup option.

There are plenty of good, experienced HCs out there. You can't go to your fallback option that quickly

You hire any of the other 3 or 4 coaches in the tournament that are equally as impressive and you offer them money they can't refuse... there's no need to hit the "break glass in case of emergency" options 4 days into a search where half your pool was still playing

Will you quit talking about money! Lol

You were saying UNLV can’t afford to fire him because of Kevin’s buyout plus the new coach’s salary and guess what, Kevin got fired. Lol

Just admit the “lack of money” thing is dead around here, Harper seems to be doing just fine finding the funds.

Somehow we are paying Mullen and we are getting a new hoops coach, quit being worried about someone else’s purse strings and enjoy what’s coming!

Where was the money for Wade? Unlimited funds, right?
