Marion to Sac State?

Marion is a good OC with a proven offense. Sure it wasn't perfect, but it was good more than it was bad. He was a finalist for corrdinator of the year.

Not sure his interest or his interpersonal relationships. Him being a hard ass on the sidelines doesn't mean much to me. Has anyone here ever played football, lol. Some coaches are firey.

I get the vibe that he isn't making a ton of friends. Not sure if that is true or not. WIth all of his experience at different places, you'd think that he could be networking quite well and building up a rolodex. But if he not good at making friends, then maybe not.

Now the whole Sluka thing was a red flag and could have been a big mistake on Marion's side.

We all knew that Marion was gone, even before Odom left. I think leaving before the bowl game for a HC job isn't so bad. It is basically the standard. If it were for a coordinator job that is a little more punk ass.

From my perspective, It's hard to tell whether he left the team early either because he was mad that he didn't get the HC job here or the Sacramento State came up at the same time and he had to devote time for that. To me it makes a difference on how you leave your last job.

I mean, he game planned the game for them so it's not like he walked out without leaving anything behind. I don't blame him for wanting out after he got passed over and to get a HC gig is a good reason to leave. He also has players to recruit, coordinators to hire, etc... leaving 1 day before the bowl game sucks sure, but it's not like he wasn't involved in the game prep for past 2 weeks.

It is interesting that just a few years ago, Arroyo could call the game for Oregon as their OC in the Rose Bowl even when he was hired as the next UNLV HC.

Maybe the game has changed too much where it is critical to get players and staff in right away.

Portal. Simple as that. They really need to move top opening the portal until after the bowl games.
I get that there is an academic component, but there is still a lot of wiggle room there

Also.. its coaching in the Rose Bowl... that's a huge difference than the LA Bowl. There's a history and pageantry involved there.
