It seems like they are trying the old way of UNLV going after a lower division QB. No doubt their money has gotten tight, so they are not going to go after a high price coach. Curious how much they are paying?
More like $375K/year. Wazzu is a G5 school for infamy. Permanently entrenched in.Guessing 1.8 - 2.2 maybe?

My guess is they will be somewhat lower than that. They are in financial trouble, and I find it unlikely they can come up with anything near $2 million. Washington State only averages a little over 20K per game attendance and is dropping!Guessing 1.8 - 2.2 maybe?

This hiring oozes a G5 program!
They're slashing where ever they can. I don't think this will save the scholarships.Does this mean Wazzu won’t be slashing schollies?
Hauck is a terrible idea. I read an article that says Rogers contract is for 5 years and that his salary will "average" $1.57 million per year. So, it sounds like he will be earning a salary lower than 1.57 in the early years but should get close to $1.8 I'm guessing in year 5. But, I get that Wazzu is broke and this might be the best they can get. Still too much money for this guy with 2 years of HC experience at an FCS level.I suppose you ghouls want to know what the Mighty Loyal One thinks of this hire. Here are my comments on my board. Met with a mix of crickets, one line crap and insults.
I don't hate this. BUT:
So no, not a "great" hire. At best, a relatively unproven "OK" hire. I'm not even sure about the "OK" part.
- He has been at his alma mater, SDSU, almost his entire career. Spent one year as a grad asst. at FAU along the way
- He is in his second year as a HC.
- The Jackrabbits are perennial FCS playoff participants, runners up in 2020 and champs in 2022. So repeating in 2023 in his first year after being an asst. for 10 years isn't all that surprising
- Of the Dakota/Montana schools, he is probably the least enticing. I'd rather have Bobby Hauck from Montana, who despite failing at UNLV (who didn't?) has been a HC for 19 years. And beat the mutts in 2021. Oh and he's making $265K. AND, since he is 60 and has stuck with Montana (and seen success) since 2018, he's a helluva lot more likely to stick around and probably close out his career here

Part 2 of my ranting:
Ok. I was saying that $2.0M was about right. Close enough.
But riddle me this, Batman. Per below, $1.8M is more than 52 FBS head coaches (all G5 BTW). 37 of those coaches make $1M or less. Some a lot less. And I can't find (yet) FCS HC Salaries, but the ones I have run across start with a 2. And not $2M.
So, is this second year HC from FCS worth more than 52 sitting FBS coaches? Or ALL other FCS coaches, many of whom would probably sell their kids for $1M+?
Oh and since I sort of latched onto Bobby Hauck as a more desirable pick, did you know that Missoula is 256 miles by car from Pullman? Much less by air. Brookings, SD? Another 1,020 miles past that by car, not all that much less by air.
WTF is the point? Familiarity with recruiting markets. How many payers does SDSU have from California, Or and Wa? 1. Montana? 29, plus 4 or 5 from Hawaii.
Look at it this way...I suppose you ghouls want to know what the Mighty Loyal One thinks of this hire. Here are my comments on my board. Met with a mix of crickets, one line crap and insults.

And just where did you come up with the notion that the Pac-2 is paying anybody's exit fees? Why, pray tell, would some of the traitors be suing the MW over exit fees if the Pac-2 was paying them?Just to illustrate how bad this hire really is and to underscore how poor the leadership is with the G-5 PAC it was reported that the total gross settlement with the departing PAC-12 members on all issues approached approximately $255 million. Instead of using the windfall to pay debt and to hire a really good football coach they blew close to $70 million just to pay the exit fees for the 4 departing members of the MWC. With an extra $35 million WSU could have paid CDM’s salary for a decade.

They will lose that lawsuit. And just where did you come up with the notion that the Pac-2 is paying anybody's exit fees? Why, pray tell, would some of the traitors be suing the MW over exit fees if the Pac-2 was paying them?
And yeah, we have known about the windfall amount for a year now. Your article is from Dec 22, 2023.

Scroll up to read my thoughts. But to summarize, I think this is a shit hire. We could and should have done much better. What do you think of the actual hire? What's the consensus among Cougs fans?
Not taking shots here, I think New Mexico may have actually made the better hire. Eck completely rebuilt Idaho program with limited resources. Vs Rogers who took over a program that was already rolling similiar to Bobby Hauck.
It doesn't always need to be bad to have zero west coast ties. Odom really had no west coach ties when he took over UNLV, and they did most of there recruiting from the south, and look what that did for UNLV. So far of the five recruits for UNLV under Mullen, four are from Florida, and one from Texas. Also all of the coaching staff he has brought in came from back east.Scroll up to read my thoughts. My idiot Coug brethren? Most of them think this is a home run hire. And that Rogers apparently bringing his entire staff of completely non-FBS experienced coaches with zero West Coast ties is great news. And that he apparently will be bringing a bunch of his FCS players to bolster the roster is wonderful news.

My post on the G-5 PAC weren’t aimed at you at all. In fact, I have enjoyed reading some of your takes and views on WSU football and the G5 PAC.Scroll up to read my thoughts. But to summarize, I think this is a shit hire. We could and should have done much better.

Well I suppose. I guess Rogers will bring the South Dakota recruiting market to bear.......It doesn't always need to be bad to have zero west coast ties.
