Training Facility for football

Wow....

Next to a new stadium, this is the best thing that could happen for UNLV football. Huge news.

Do you have an approximate date?

That's the big anouncement? I posted this months ago. They were just waiting for someone to match Fertitas financial support. I was told the facility will put Gorman's to shame and rival any NFL facility. I believe the recruits were even being shown artist renderings.

I would hope we put a HS facility to shame.

Have you seen Gorman's practice facility? I heard it cost $50 miillion. It is impressive. Fertitas paid for it too. :)

I have seen it. I have a hard time believing it cost 50 million dollars considering the reported cost for the Oregon facility was 68 million and that is the gold standard of training facilities.

The football facility at Rebel Park will elevate recruiting to higher levels. This is exciting to hear. I think everyone knew the building was coming but we were unsure of the exact timeline when construction would begin. Sounds like they're getting close to begin building and we should start hearing and seeing a lot more about it soon.

With the new baseball facility it looks like there isn't much room for this. With the new baseball facility it looks like it's bigger than the space available in the north end zone. Are they taking out any parking because Rebel Park and Earl E Wilson Stadium + new baseball facility + new football facility seems very cramped together.

That space is pretty large. Its not going to house an entire indoor field. But if its 2 stories will have plenty of room for Weights, training , offices, film rooms, locker room etc...

Oh no doubt it would be big enough, but it looks like the land is around the same size as the amount of land for the baseball facility. I guess pipe dream is that the facility is on the same level as the Mendenhall Center is for college basketball and would assume it'd be bigger than the amount of land there :)

The baseball facility is tucked up against Right Field and I dont believe is on the image you posted. This facility should be much larger to house all the athletes/staff associated with the program.

That piece of property you are talking about has room for a 400 wide by 200 foot deep building footprint for a total area of 80,000 sf. The Mendenhall Center covers an area of about 140 x 200 feet for a total area of 28,000 sf. They have enough land to easily be 3x the size of the Mendenhall Center if they just build within the area of the existing grass fields.

Now that I look at the map from that perspective I always assumed the Mendenhall looked bigger on Google Maps.

I was under the impression that building on the corner of the baseball stadium near the right field foul pole was the baseball facility but I haven't been to campus since they built that, my apologies.

The red rectangle looks bigger than an entire football field. Should be plenty of space for an attractive building.

Please tell me this just isn't a dream... after all we've seen - for this to become reality... AMAZING. This program will be rolling! With this type of commitment to the program and all the other activity around a new stadium - It's time for me to upgrade my season tickets (I live in CO!) and up the RAF points so I can qualify for a great seat in the future stadium!

I'm going to assume that part of the plans will be to build the giant bubbles over the practice fields.

if i did i am sorry, it was just general information
You have nothing to be sorry about. Was just curious how you knew about it.

I thought maybe since you hadn't posted anything else, that maybe you weren't supposed to have let that info out.

Haven't heard an announcement yet from UNLV.

From what I heard during an interview, it will be more about the weight room, study hall, film rooms, coaches offices and possibly cafeteria. Sanchez said the weather is so good here no need for an enclosed field.

Its 190 degrees in Aug and early Sept that is not good weather. Las Vegas only has a couple of months where the weather is nice. An indoor practice facility would be nice, but I know its not a priority that it is in some states.

That was quoting coach Sanchez not me..As long as we are playing at Sam Boyd practicing indoors doesn't make a ton of sense. Better to practice in a similar enviornment to what you will play in.

Plus they typically practice very early or later in the day to mitigate some of the heat issues.

Maybe they cover one of the existing practice fields?

The weather is nice for most of the football season. The tough time is the first 2 months during practice and the first couple of games. I think what the coach means is that we do not have the cold weather. From October to the end of the season is no problem for outside practice.

Maybe we need a pass-the-hat day at Shadow Creek, TPC at Summerlin and Southern Highlands to get to where shovels can start turning dirt.
