Did this get missed?

Thanks for the update. Natural Causes. Way too young. Forever a Rebel.
Ugh. Never like that as a cause unless they are over 70. There’s nothing natural about dying at that age unless you have some anomaly like Hank Gathers had, something congenital, a chronic disease that would have been diagnosed much earlier than death (CF, lupus, T1D, etc).

It is a lot more common than you would think. I worked at the airport while going to school, and one of the American Airlines employees, who was in great shape dropped dead of a heart attack on the tarmac when he was only 20 years old.

During the 1980s, I has a friend, when I was living in Baltimore. I am not from Baltimore originally. He was superathletic. He died suddenly from a heart issue during a physical activity, not an extreme physical activity. He was 18. It happens now and it happened then.

no offense, I don’t buy it.

Okay offensive linemen’s theoretically are overweight. I mean very overweight.

That’s a lot of stress on the heart as you exercise/workout..

At least he died in his sleep. That’s the most beautiful way to go..

God be with him.

Heart issues can most easily be missed in this demographic. Congenital heart defect, enlarged heart, etc.
No idea if this is what happened here, but scary either way.
It is more easily missed. But with college athletes, as opposed to a college student, especially nowadays vs Hank’s days - no, they don’t get missed all that often, not congenital, certainly not enlarged hearts. Diagnostic tools and actual breadth of complete physicals forcollege athletes is pretty good now. Not saying things can’t slip by but it won’t be common and not as common as before.

He did come from Ohio State, so their testing/physical might be more intense.
But I would be surprised if Chest x-rays and EKG's were standard procedures for all athletes. Especially echos which are necessary for valve problems.

They certainly missed Bronny's issue at USC.

I don't know man. That kid should have been admitted to the Hospital the moment he started complaining about chest pain. Especially if he got an EKG. Those things are typically read rather quickly at a Hospital.
I read that and wonder if the school is open for potential liability. The team doc did the EKG and said it was fine. I am sure people are feeling horrible. Also gotta feel for the 2 players who found him and tried to do CPR. Just sucks all the way around.

Then they would suddenly be liable for every student who goes to UNLV. He hasn't even practiced or played for UNLV yet beyond maybe basic workouts.
