Line ‘em up: Predictions and Game Thread UNLV at SJSU FOOTBALL

We’ll need our linebackers to disrupt the short passing game and pick off a pass or two. Woodard is so good at reading the game and being in the right spot on pass plays, we just need him to hold onto the ball when he has the 1-2 chances to pick it. (Still can’t get the Syracuse dropped pick out of my head. I’m sure it still crosses his mind daily.)
There were 2 dropped picks on that last drive. Was it Mani who had that other drop on the tipped ball?

It was Mani’s as I recall. Neither, imo, was a routine pickoff, both would have been considered good picks as opposed to gift picks. But man, somebody needs to make a play.

But the late hit by Whitmore …. Just a bad call.

We're tied for the 13th in the nation with 30 sacks and teams convert 32% on 3rd down. I don't think it's as bad as you think.

Last season we only had 26 all season in 14 games and 3rd down conversions were 37%. We're scoring (on average) 5 more points/game and giving up 5 less points per game than 2023. We're giving up 50 yards less on the ground per game, and we're essentially the same as last season through the air, but teams are completing 4% less passes this season.
Hard to believe with the eye ball test, did we even have a sack in the SDSU game? I know we feasted vs OSU and Hawaii and probably FSU. But Syracuse, KU and BSU in chunks they had all day back there.

Both losses if not for horrible 4th down penalties both games likely end without them getting the ball again and we win.

SDSU - 2
Kansas - 2
Syracuse - 0
BSU - 0

Is this causation or correlation?

Style of play...
We didnt adjust vs Syracuse to play more aggressively on their WRs. Kansas tried to sit back and run the ball in the second half after Daniels threw a couple interceptions. Boise we played up closer on the line to stop the run but couldnt get to Madsen all night because Woodard sat in the middle all night watching Jeanty instead of blitzing... Our pressure was dictated by the style of play by each school, but we didnt adjust well vs Syracuse and made our bed with stopping Jeanty so much that the Boise TE's had a field day without good coverage on them.

In the biggest FSU fan this weekend (assuming we take care of business). Boise also at Wyoming. Not a gimme playing up there.

Yeah Wyoming is awful, Boise will probably rest their starters by half time... I'll hope that CSU drops their next 2 so it doesn't matter... Hopefully Fresno playing for a bowl game gives them what Fresno should be and Utah St. just playing for pride and some guys really showing of their skills.

Was just chatting with my brother about him. has done a nice job getting to the Qb over last few games.
He stood out last game, and not because he’s 6’7. I liked the motor and the effort. He’ll keep developing and getting better these next two years.

I would hope that Colorado State and San Diego St lose their next two games, Boise State wins their remaining regular season games, New Mexico defeats Hawaii, Utah defeats Iowa State, Houston defeats BYU, Kansas defeats Colorado, Memphis defeats Tulane, ND defeats Army, UNLV wins their remaining regular season games, Odom is offered and accepts a major contract increase/extension before the end of the regular season, UNLV defeats Boise in the conference championship game and UNLV makes the college playoffs.

Field and weather conditions for tonight's game should heavily favor UNLV... I cant see SJSU throwing 40 times in the sloppy conditions without a lot of errors. And they cant run the ball very well at all, almost near the bottom of the stats. Punting I can also foresee being a big issue if the field conditions are bad, which means we might see another RW3 special...

Bad field conditions are always a catch-22.

It can definitely negatively impact the passing game. Flipside if footing is bad/slippery it actually impacts DBs more than WRs. Harder to react on slippery surface vs knowing where you are going in a route.

Overall I think it benefits UNLV but we could give up a big play or two because of the conditions.

Effit. Pound it. Pound it more.

Hit Jacob with a soft passes in the flat.

Ricky hard cut post on occasion, see the defender slip if he sells it well.

could give up a few big plays, but that could be said on a normal basis, lol. I think it helps with the defense on Nash because if the field is sloppy, he wont be able to get out of his break as quickly and up the field. Thats not really their game- they like the short passes to him, but if we are able to keep 2 guys shadowing him, it wont be as easy to get free. Their QB also throws a ton of interceptions, and overall they turn the ball over a lot. Probably expect a few balls to come popping out with hits and slippery conditions.

I have tickets for the game but considering canceling due to weather. Anyone currently have boots on the ground?

Is it little bitty stinging rain? Big ole fat rain? Or rain that flies in sideways? Maybe even the kind of rain that seems to come straight up from underneath?

I got the rain jackets ready but just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

I have not watch SJSU so i dont know the answer but are they horrible at running because they have been so pass heavy? From what i have read they protect the qb pretty good which tells me they have a good o line. If their o line is that good they should be able to open running lanes. If they have a decent rb he will take advantage of it. So is it that their running game stinks or is it that they just prefer the passing game?

Ten miles per hour wind isn't horrible. But, there may be gusts that exceed that. Wet for sure.

Getting ready to play in the mud!
Aww Mud GIF

So they've come out and tried to run the ball and when it can be predicted, it's getting shut down...
Now just need our offense to get going

This offense has become so stale and boring to watch. We were more explosive last year without a running QB. Let Friel toss a few rocks... do something other than run dives, inside gives, and jet sweeps... they're putting 9 and 10 guys up on the line
