NEW CONFERENCE YES OR NO

Not if SJ "STATE" doesn't change it's name ASAP! To University or something else. We should Only be adding schools with anything but, State in their names.

PAC STATES Conference can keep the STATE name like the PENN! Lol

It may be interesting to know the number of students at universities that the MWC is looking at:

Texas State University 38,000
I work at Texas State. We're over 40,000 now and growing. Huge growing pains, but it's a quality university. We have pretty good facilities, comparable to USU. The location is great, right in between San Antonio and Austin (30ish min to each). I think TXST would be a great addition to the new MWC. We've been making huge strides in both academics and athletics. To be honest though, I'm not sure they will take a MWC offer if it comes. Many fans are happy in the SBC, and the new MWC has yet to prove itself. I'd be ecstatic though! I'd love to see the Rebs here in Texas every year.

Every other year, but I get your point. Hopefully we'll start seeing some better national TV games soon

Let’s see what the PAC does now. I hope we land Texas State. Of the options we have on the table they might be the top one.

The PAC12 needs a win in public perception too. They may offer to help pay the Sunbelt exit fee.

Gloria has some money to spend so hopefully she makes a good offer. If they want to hold on for the PAC then we wish them the best and move on.

I would have preferred they invited University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) since they don't have State in their name! Lol

They have the bigger TV market and where a Top 25 team a few season ago too!

They have 5-1 record vs State and they Play the Rebels in 2027 in LV.

Ask Fresno State what they think of UNLV football!

As long as Theresa is in that job the likelihood of a merger is about zero.
I still go back to arguments I’ve already made…

The PAC HAS to add one more… and it’s gonna be a piece of crap team that’s first, gonna give you a serious black eye, and second it’s going to dilute your media deal… that you don’t even have.

And realistically all that does is make you a conference… you need one or two more.

At that point you’re adding jokes of teams and you’re going to dilute conference shares AND look like the biggest clown conference… which most certainly doesn’t help when perception plays as large of a part as it does in how media and coaches rank your teams… which, oh by the way, matters to gaining access to the CFP.

Eat all the di*ks Theresa.

Well that is mean. All the Coug outlets are saying how terrific Teresa is, and how great the realignment is coming along.

I completely agree. I just thought it was interesting that the two schools combined can put nearly 50,000 people in two stadiums while we have a tough time putting 25,000 people in one stadium with three times the populace.

Because it's different.

Vegas has way more transplants with other allegiances. UNLV is competing with VGK and Raiders for people's entertainment dollars. They've had no reason to show up for 30 years with football.

Hell the most attended game there was USC Vs LSU not even the Raiders.

Houston is a massive city and they don't draw as well as you would think unless it's a big game.

Personally I wish UNLV would have done their own on or near campus stadium of around 35k..

And apologies to any students on here but their support has sucked for football for as long as I've gone to games. Better recently. But it shouldn't take having to give tickets away to get them out there.

Seriously?

I mean if you guys circle back and get Memphis maybe.

But if it ends up a UTEP/NMSU or TEXAS STATE I can't imagine that's what they had drawn up.

2ND CONFERENCE FORMATION ATTEMPT

Still not convinced that NIU or Toledo is happening. If one or both did then I'd go a whole different route.

UNLV AFA RENO UNM HAWAII SJSU WYOMING

Texas State UTEP NMSU MONTANA MONTANA STATE

Everybody be down with that?

Don't undervalue the growth Montana is undergoing. Might not currently be a large market, but there's a lot of moving people or people living there part time that send their kids to school at UM while the winter in CA, lol...

I wonder.

Which way would you rather go in expanding?

Texas State with NMSU and UTEP?

Or go all in on FCS schools and do something like Sac State, Idaho (They've been FBS before) Montana, Montana State and maybe UTEP (I don't love UTEP but completely ignoring Texas seems like a mistake)

I really think we need to limit FCS or completely avoid them.
First 5 mill up front is a lot. More than exit fees for the other FBS teams.
Second there could be more funding needing to get them up to par on facilities.
Third and most importantly, none of them would help the media deal, at least not initially. Sac state has potential, but it wouldnt show up on our next deal. The better FCS teams are in tiny state populations without good brand recognition.
Fourth they would bring down SOS at least initially. And the basketball would be even more horrid. FCS calls ups all tend to struggle with the transition, and they have recently been joining worse conferences that us, yes even considering what the new MW will be.
I still think UTEP is better than TX St. Though I am coming around more on TX st.
Traditionally Texas St. Has the reputation in terms of their student/almuni is that they wanted to go to Texas, but couldn't get in. San Marcos is close to Austin that their student still go to UT games but go to class in San Marcos.
Now I do think that narrative is changing, but still 100% exists with many of their students. San Marcos has 70k people, El Paso has 670k.
And again UTEP, though with a smaller enrollment has more fans who prioritize UTEP.

But I think we go after both.

I think we should add NMSU, UTEP, and TX State As full time members. Still try to get the 2 Midwest schools for football only, and try to raid the WCC for some Bball only schools.

Are we really thinking of taking three teams? Is it just about getting to 10?

I know 10 is best for scheduling but I’d want to bring in the least possible so as not to dilute any new media rights agreement any more than it has to be. Unless maybe you’re bringing in those teams under some lower status for a period of time maybe.

Aside from that, and without ANY real knowledge of any of the markets and what not, I’d say Texas State, NMSt, UTEP in that order.

I'm down with Texas State. They have a lot going on and also a very good football coach. Need to agree to change their name to the Fighting Dillos first though (not sure many will get that). Just don't throw it to Stonehands

That kicker tho...

Lol.

TX State. Only changed third name recently. They used to be Southwest Texas State when that movie came out

I'm thinking that this "verbal" offer is a ploy to get Pac and MWC to outbid each other. I don't see it as legit since offers aren't made verbally (when done in this capacity).
I think you are right. The announcement said it was a verbal offer and negotiations are still going on. That sounds like TX St posturing and stalling for more time to get the PAC to think about it.

That movie was way better than it should have been. I mean yeah it's stupid but it's still great.

A smaller stadium wouldn't give UNLV the ability to draw major teams, and would make it much more difficult to ever get into a power conference. UNLV now needs to take advantage of the stadium and get more future opponents like ULCA and Arizona State. I would love UNLV to work more into lower level SEC, Big 10 and mid level Big12 teams in the future. UNLV just needs to make it a priority to get casinos to buy cheaper tickets in bulk to give out employees, and to push discount tickets to school students and their families to build up a future following. Also need to get the owners of the luxury boxes to show up in bigger numbers and get vested in the college team.

35 to 40k Would be bigger or as big as a number of schools that recently made the jump to P4 conferences. Smu/Cincy. 40k puts you right on par with Universty of Houston another recent P4 invite.

I agree, UNLV needs to get more aggressive in tix pricing.

No matter how good UNLV gets avg 45k or more will be difficult.

Houston had good teams in the past. Has bigger population. And even when they had that solid run with Herman not so long ago topping 40/45k was difficult.

My point is if UNLV would have had an on campus stadium years ago attendance numbers likely would have been better. Just take Rebel Net, you saw how many people bitched and moaned about Sam Boyd and how far it was and used it as an excuse not to go.

We hosted teams like Wisconsin, Iowa State, Kansas State, UofA in the past at Sam Boyd.

A nice shiny new 35-40k on campus stadium would have been fine.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Nope. Teresa Ghoul is still being lauded by the Cougar pundits. I am in the minority who thinks she sucks and botched this thing bigtime.

We still sponsored good bowl games too. Got to see Boise beat a good Oregon team. Regardless of the status of Sam Boyd, Oregon and Boise filled that stadium.

Got to love the media spin. Although Teresa is not my favorite person, Hanlon’s razor applies: never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.

In the case of Sdsu though, they’re just terrible.

A reverse merger and Gloria's idea about relegation and promotion to reward the better schools and make the poorer schools earn it would have kept a lot of money in your pockets. Theresa never would bring up the idea of relegation and promotion because Gloria thought of it first.

I still see a merge as by far the best option for both conferences, but the egos may never let that happen!

Agree 100%. But yeah - Teresa is all about keeping her job. At the expense of the Pac-2 and Traitorous 5. And the MW.
After the flop of the past week, I can't see her doing that... I can't see The top 4 being anything but upset over not being able to secure targets, break up the MWC, or keep their cash on hand... and now you're discussing flying into El Paso or bussing up from San Antonio as the best available options...

30,000 expandable to 45,000.
