In modern recruiting, you would think that if he has a guy in his pocket to bring in, he probably doesnt care if his current QB1 stays or goes. If that person lets him know that he isnt intending to make that change or intends to go elsewhere (and you've mentioned that someone before) then yes, damage control is happening.
Hypothetically, if Maiava isnt fit for Marion and they continue to have differences of ability/stretch then its only a matter of time anyways. However, if you think you can develop him into the next great QB and do so at the expense of a few tricky play calls, why wouldnt you do that. Its not every day a freshman walks in and throws for nearly 3000 yards and 14 TDs. theres clearly talent there, even if its not as intriguing as former 4 or 5 stars.
