HUGE NEWS!

This, big news if true!

Whelp...

I can't say I'm surprised.

And before I hear about us positioning ourselves for the BIG12 realize so is everyone else.

Even those in the new BIG12.

Welcome NMSU, UTEP, LA TECH, TEXAS STATE...

From best G5 conference to a step up from the Sun Belt.

Short term that is great money and could keep Odom in Vegas for a while, long term I’m not sure.

So UNLV'S willing to spend the 4-5-6 million a year of that new war chest?

And who knows they just might. But that's a lot of cheddar for a guy coaching in CUSA 2.0

Because thats probably what it will take to keep him if a school like say Baylor comes along.

The MW still has some scratch leftover to entice another school or two. Perhaps they could outbid the PAC for UTSA or something.

Maybe but just like with the PAC UTSA is going to want to see financials and media deal estimates.

They get like 7 million a year now. So new deal would have to exceed that. Which it won't. So MWC will need to compensate that somehow.

And that's likely to be the case with all AAC schools.

I could be wrong.

But I'm guessing any rebuild will include CUSA teams.

So the Fertitta's spend +$35 million on an indoor practice facility to help us go to a better place. The Boyd Familly donating $6.5 million for an outdoor practice facility to help us go to a better place. All of that and here we are stuck in the same place. WTF!!!!!!!

The TemuPac12 is the same place too.

Depends. Our tv deal ends in 2025-26, if the MW plays it right they could entice big market teams with bonuses as we got to hold them over until the new tv contract kicks in.

This, big news if true!

Has this dipshit been right about anything yet? $25-30M up and above everyone else?

That said, if true I am major league bummed. The Pac-2 and our f-ing incompetent Commissioner have really screwed the pooch. My prediction, if UNLV doesn't jump to the Pac-12:

  • Your traitorous 5 do an about face and ask to come back home
  • Pac-2 tries to hold them to whatever they signed. The traitors argue bad faith negotiation because we "promised" Memphis/Tulane, etc.
  • The Pac-2 wallows for a while in self pity, then comes crawling like legless lizards to Gloria begging to join the MW. Gloria sez - OK, at 25% shares for life
  • Or, we settle for Sacramento State and become the laughing stock of the FBS
I need another beer......

The Temu12 look like a F'n joke.. they can't get quality programs to join either. Their TV deal will not be anywhere near what we've bashed over the head with. Their TV deal will be slightly better than ours and frankly if I was a team that entered with assumptions they'd be better off I'd be asking to return...they haven't kept any promises they made to the 4 teams they convinced to join them, why would any school trust them.

Could.
Might.
If this
If that

Just like going to the PAC because of all the uncertainty was a risk.

There's a ton of uncertainty here as well.

If Gloria can poach and rebuild the conference to its current status.

I will applaud her and eat a heaping bowl of crow.

(Post isn't directed at you personally me just ranting to the ether.)

Wonder what kind of strings are attached to this…I imagine the MWC will be our home for a LONG time. They’re aren’t cutting a check like that and letting us walk out in 5 years. UNLV will regret this. We’ll be begging for a PAC invite before long.

Given the options and our current athletic dept debt this isn’t a bad next step at least for the next year or so. PAC wasn’t offering to pay our exit fee which we couldn’t afford and it’s not like Harp’s phone was ringing off the hook from other conferences. I just hope we didn’t have to make a long term (2+ years) commitment to the MWC. If UNLV Football continues its trajectory and MBB can show some life (🙏🏼) we could be well positioned for a strong move down the road. At worst we’re the dominant program in the MWC with an annual shot of making a run for the playoffs. Keep a healthy schedule of P4 opponents, attract some strong TV draw games to Allegiant (many power teams will want to give their fans a trip to Vegas), and most of just keep winning and we’ll be ok.

Neither league gets enough teams or tv revenue. Decide to merge into PacMW and have state vs non state divisions.

If I was up in your neck of the woods I would gladly have some beers with you.

Disagree. They're doing it to survive so they can collect a close to 200 million dollar payday from the Temu12... if we leave and AFA left, the conference dissolves. My guess is it's a MOU to get through TV deal negotiations without a grant of rights attached. We're now the powerhouse program of a conference

Not if our annual media rights contract ends up being $1 million and the Pac-12 gets $10 million.
The PAC can’t afford or attract any central/eastern time zone teams. They may have overplayed their hands. As of right now, nobody is shelling out to the conference 500-700 million contract.

What’s clear, is that unlv and afa are anchoring the conference for the short term, and now the conference needs to go and add some schools. I prefer it to be someone from Texas area.

I won’t give a cent to this and I won’t spend a second watching them play high schools for the next decade
You mean like we’ve played in since UNLV’s inception? Didn’t seem to be a problem when UNLV MBB marched to the NC playing the Big West high school gyms. Just sayin it’s not the end of the world.

I don’t know if the new MWC will be better than the Sun Belt. Honestly I’d put us below the Sun Belt. We’ll be above CUSA and the MAC. That’s about it. This is going to be a bad football conference for a while at least.

Temu12 reference ms their knockoff puffed out chest. There is nothing prestigious about being in the Pac 12... OSU/WSU thought so high of themselves that they could attract national brands to join them...

LOL- I hope you’re right. I highly doubt it though. UNLV is run by idiots! No way we negotiated that kind of deal. Wait till the details come out tomorrow and we find out how long we’re here.

I plan on UNLV being in the MW forever at this point.
