HUGE NEWS!

Right now, if I was Gloria I'd be calling Utah St and saying are you sure you want to join them? Again, still not sure how they deal with the DOJ investigation and Pac-12 bylaws.. I'd also call Fresno and CSU ADs. They can't be happy with how things are playing out

That and we better double or more Odom's salary. We won't be able to get another decent experienced coach into this conference.
In case you missed my reply on my board, you suck! :)

But aren't those guys a bunch of humorless, clueless dipshits? I'm on the older end, clearly WSU's academic standards plummeted once I graduated.....

You mean like we’ve played in since UNLV’s inception? Didn’t seem to be a problem when UNLV MBB marched to the NC playing the Big West high school gyms. Just sayin it’s not the end of the world.
Milk was also cheaper

Not to be too mean. It's like someone turns the light on in the basement every now and then. And, you get a response.

The PAC can’t afford or attract any central/eastern time zone teams. They may have overplayed their hands. As of right now, nobody is shelling out to the conference 500-700 million contract.

What’s clear, is that unlv and afa are anchoring the conference for the short term, and now the conference needs to go and add some schools. I prefer it to be someone from Texas area.
What Texas teams would come here now? None of the decent ones. Schools that the MWC previously thought were below them (UNT, Texas St, Rice) are off the table now.

Realistic Texas options for the new MWC 3.0

UTEP
Tarleton State
Sam Houston State
Abilene Christian University
Stephen F Austin University

Cancelled football and basketball season tix last year. Smartest move I've made all year.
UNLV just told everyone that they are content being a small-time school playing with small-time schools.

Fine. Tear down the Thomas & Mack and play in the Lee Discount Liquor arena until a new smaller venue can be built. And in that vein, consider a much smaller football arena while your at it.

I don't know about you but I'm marking my calender for when UNLV locks horns with the Plow Boys of Tarleton State.

And yes I know exactly how that sounds.

I'm sorry but we have 30 million dollars now.

We will become the next Boise State. The media darlings from a small conference.

Wait reading that again I just realized we demoted ourselves so that we can become Boise State.

Actually their name is not that creative, they are the Texans you know because they are from Texas. Kind of like the guy that buys a personalized license plate just to put the make and model of his car on it. Like BMWX5. Yes we know what kind of car it is it says it right on the back next to your license plate.

'The school's athletic teams were previously known as the "Plowboys"'

They'll always be the Plowboys in their hearts.

Maybe the plan was to get the 25-30 million in the bank and then join the B12 with zero revenue like what SMU did joining the ACC. We now have some money to hold us over until they give us 1 or 2 million out of pity.

How would you like to join the MWC? We got spot for 1 more... -Gloria

There is a possibility that this was a power play of some kind.

What I'm not sure of is what if somebody breaks ranks from the MWC.

PAC is in an equally tough spot no doubt.

My biggest concerns now are.

1- When does UNLV see the money?
2-What happens if the exit fee stuff gets negotiated down?

Say it gets knocked to 60% of 90 million.. still 54 million. Then you add the 55 million from the poaching agreement that isn't getting reduced... that's still 110 million. Payout timing will be interesting

The difference is Boise would use that money to elevate their program. UNLV will use if for the dumbest shit possible. Just wait, it wont even be a year before were screaming " what about all the money from staying in the MWC".

Again, true.

But are the Texas State and Rice’s going to be on the table next month or next year? They aren’t now but when the ACC implodes, it will have gigantic implications. There’s a reason why AFA, UNLV, Memphis, and Tulane are all waiting for the next dominos to come down. There’s no rush to join the pac, they don’t have a media deal and are currently on the hook for 140 million at the moment.

What if I told you that unlv had overtures from other conferences should x,y,z happen and at the same time the MWC offered a bonus to stay in the conference? Why not collect 30 million to sit tight and get a real conference invite later? The PAC is having a tough time convincing anyone in the central time zone to join.

That's kind of my argument... if the MWC teams are all sitting tight, who is the Pac 12 bringing in? They have 0 credibility at this point, they are running out of money to make things viable financially and future media rights, they're already compromising on their "metrics" and their bylaws and then trying to litigate their way out of agreements... who is going to trust that?

I don't know. I can see a lot of ways this could go sideways.

I'm not suggesting the PAC didn't have a lot of its own potholes.

My biggest hang up is being stuck in a lesser conference.

We didn't get a 30 million dollar football facility to join a slightly better version of CUSA.

To be fair UNLV is being promised compensation for next media deal that they don't have yet either.

And Gloria now has to poach schools to come to the MWC with no media deal in place. Because current media deal is assuredly going to take a hit.

It's same same no?

Read total owed to MWC is $145 mill including exit and poaching fees

Might as well just add Montana and Montana St and call it good.
Unlv
San Jose
Hawaii
Air Force
New Mexico
Wyoming
Reno
Montana
Montana St
That’s a decent conference and nothing too crazy travel wise

If its not negotiated down.

And that 'war chest' gets eaten up real quick if you promised two schools they would get the same money as now in any new media deal.

I'll be generous and say next MWC deal will be 3 million a year. That's 2 million shortfall for both AFA and UNLV. Over 5 years thats 10 million each.

20 million of that 145 million is already gone. And that's if MWC gets all fees owed to them.

And that's if MWC gets all of it.

Do Montana and Montana State want to make the move? Gonna cost them 5 million to make the jump.

I guess Gloria could pay it with the new war chest.

There's 10 million gone.

Why wouldn't they. Montana St maybe not, but Montana is pretty much reached as far as it can as a FCS program, they've built the facilities to compete and fitting into the MWC would be huge boost for them. And I wouldn't guarantee MWC covers the 5 million, UM could find that if it makes sense...

Add Memphis and UTSA..call it a day and stay in the MWC.

Both conferences have to add members now. It will be interesting to see who the PAC lands vs who the MWC lands. I would guess that the PAC ends up pulling the better options but who knows where they turn with the AAC and MWC out.

I think Texas State is the obvious best add for them but after that I don’t know. Do they have to look at a UTEP now? Could the PAC have to dip into the FCS ranks?

If the MWC has a plan for someone they might be best served getting them signed on tomorrow before the PAC moves.

Sorry man. I just can't get excited about a future conference filled with FCS call ups and CUSA schools. I do not think it pushes the program forward.

Boise State didn't invest in their program to stay in the WAC.

It feels like UNLV just invested in it's program (Fertitta complex etc) to move to CUSA 2.0.

There's no way Gloria is handing UNLV 30 million for them to bolt in two years.

UNLV could be stuck in CUSA 2.0 for 5 years.

I'm legitimately concerned if the new PAC figures it out it will be significantly better than the MWC and ultimately UNLV gets left behind.

I think they would jump at the opportunity and they they could be competitive

They will have a tough time keeping Boise and WSU/OSU happy if they're adding that tier.. that was the whole point of this exercise. Cut out bad programs, they aren't going to get better playing significantly more invested programs. I know that seems counterintuitive to the argument of us adding them, but we never pretended to be the "Elite" too good for those destinations and programs...
