He seems to fit the descriptions of the "long athletic wing" we are always hopeful the Rebels land.
I like his bloodlines too, Cade Cunningham is a player I like a lot!

He is skinny so I see where Oats says he has to get stronger I wonder if he was worked on that off season? It won’t matter as much in the MWC as the SEC but still hopefully he has worked on it.

Yes, I imagine hes going to push to play immediately. He was redshirted last season as a freshman.. Tons of upside and matchup nightmare

As a high school junior, he was rated the #1 player in the country. I'd say we have some ballers in the gym. They are not ready to bang with Purdue or Michigan yet, but we will see who else coaches bring in. So far, impressive upside as the defense looks up at our guys slamming it home. So the only question, is he better than Mikey. I'd say yes emphatically. Could we use another 4 - 5 star in case we get into foul trouble as Pastner's defense is in your face SEC, ACC style? Always.
If this was the Rice era, the papers would be going nuts. I'll wait for January to see if they wake up. I can tell you one thing, the coaches in San Diego, Boise, Spokane, LA area are aware of Pastner's appeal and probable coaching prowess. He has some solid coaches helping him install the D and O so this should be fun.

To say the least. This will help out the MWC because the Rebels are back and runnin. Excellent top 30 team in a year if we can get more inside help.

This is as good as we could reasonably hope for as a first recruiting class. I know it will rank lower than the Rice class a few years ago with Dedan but I like this better. No one on paper as good as him but more depth and pieces that on paper fit better together. Now to see if it translates and if he can coach or not.
Wow. This is a kid who should have been a standout player at Alabama - even in his first year. You have to wonder if it was weight and strength or something else. But we have to accept we won't be getting players who have shown the are 15/10 stat fillers. If CJP can get even half the potential he showed to be a top *4 recruit he will workout out as a huge get. If he can get more, he will be a Tark type recruit. As many posters above stated, this is exactly the type of recruit we need. Underused P5 player who has huge upside.

Unfortunately, but also kinda fortunately this kid's goal is to show well enough to get a better payday at another school. That's just how these things will work for now on. Same rules apply to everyone on the roster with more than 1 year of eligibility.
The silver lining on that ominous dark cloud, that every year is a "contract year" for these kids. So they are incentivized by performing at a high level.
unfortunately for THAT is the flipside of that coin is that many of these players will likely be looking out for #1, and may not be as likely to play a more team oriented time of game, which is what works the best in college basketball these days.
We need another primary ball handler for sure, and probably another front court player--especially someone that's a monster rebounder. Bonus points if they can shoot from 3, though I think anyone with those skill son their CV is making more money than we have to throw at them.
It appears there are around 650 players still in the portal. Below is the link to the ON3 portal tracker. Near the top right is the position button that can allow you to sift out centers and PG's. Yeah this type of player coming here will develop into that while playing here, we get guys who have not popped yet. I would love to have the NIL money to get this type but we are going to have to win a lot of games first!
We dont need that type of player to have successful seasons.. We just need these young talented kids to develop in their sophomore years the type of talent that got them P4 offers to begin with.. Do that and they leave anyways, but we get a really good season out of it..
NIL has changed the way I look at players. I dont mind borrowing their talents for a season, letting them out perform their stop and move on to bigger pay days.. That gets us a tournament bid more than likely and we get to put UNLV down on our brackets in March.

I think in my head i was looking for a 4 who could hit >30% from downtown while being a good rebounder and figured that might be something you could find/develop. But yeah, usually right now in our price range you get a guy that can do a bit both but not really great at either. There are guys like Jackson Moni from NDSU, Dawson Garcia from Minnesota, Baba Miller from FAU, Taje Kelly from Charleston Southern, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield from NCSTate or Ian Schieffein from Clemson are all still available and all fit that role pretty okay.
