Available candidates (non UNLV staff)

D’Anton Lynn was mentioned earlier but what about his dad Anthony Lynn. No college coaching experience, could bring his son in as associate HC (is that a step up from DC at USC? Maybe more job security based on how Riley is doing). Anthony is also a UNLV graduate.
That’s a good speculation post. Now watch Arrigo and other phony insiders rip you off.

If Lynn is the NFL coach that DID reach out to Harper than it is more than possible.

Seems like Marion is being fully considered now according to FootballScoop on X.

Not saying he isn't being considered but that feels like a super lazy put some content out there article. Kind of a no brainer for schools to look inward during a successful run.

Sources being Rebel Net and Twitter posts and likely Marion himself. And nope I'm not joking about the last one. 🙂

As a package deal..100%.

Anthony as HC would be interesting but would need to see his staff. Would definitely need some college guys to help navigate NIL/PORTAL/RECRUITING stuff.
The list of successful NFL to college coaches is shorter than short. Jim Mora, Pete Carroll and Bill O’Brien and who else? You can fill a graveyard with those who failed.

One other thing to point out , this was the LVRJ list of possibles two years ago.

Mike Stoops
Gary patterson
Shane Steichen
Keenan McCardell
Scott Frost
Joe Klanderman
Collin Klein
Ryan Grubb

So don’t think LVRJ will be right this time either.
Remember when they said Jason Kidd was coming to coach the basketball team?

I think it would not be unreasonable if all 3 coordinators at least get a preliminary interview, at least the ones that are interested. Shibest may not be.

Shibest seems like a lifer content with what he does. Do something you like and are good at. Minimal stress responsibility. Decent paycheck. Some guys are wired that way.

Graney with the most lazy 10 coaches UNLV should look at list of candidates.

Literally zero thought put into it.

Swing for fences Mullen.

Bryin Harsin duh.

And up and coming coordinator names everybody has on their radar.

Mike Stoops is one to watch. Harper sort of alluded to him in the presser. That would be a hard sell, imo.

Was going to mention Anthony Lynn and also perhaps Scott Turner.

If it's Mike Stoops @reagan21 will drink bleach.

If you want to slow any excitement around the program to a grinding halt Mike Stoops is your guy.

I think I'd rather have Rolovich.

As for being a hard sell.

'His brother was a really good coach and I'm proud to announce Mike Stoops as the next HC of UNLV football'

Suddenly Rolo looks like a good hire. 😂

Me immediately after Mike Stoops is announced.

Patterson, Anthony Lynn w/ his bro as DC, Harsin, Mullen, David Shaw and then maybe Rich Rod if nobody else bites. That’s a decent list of former HC’s with Lynn being a former NFL HC, NO FREAKING ASSISTANTS!

He got ran out of Miami for a reason.

0-5 vs Florida State (you be ok with losing to Reno 5 years in a row?)

Bowl blowouts.

Oversaw the worst loss in the programs 90 year history and that led to his canning.

He’s a good DC, but not a HC or program leader.
I understand what you’re saying, but you have to give some context. He took over a program that was on probation. Wasn’t even eligible for the conference title game his first 2 seasons. Florida St? That was at height when they won a national title, so there was a big gap in talent level. Both bowl losses were by 3 points. Plus he’s had almost a decade of time since being a HC to be able to figure what what he could have done better. Really a moot point anyway since he has turned down opportunities to interview for P4 jobs the past couple of years. He seems perfectly content being a DC.

Gap in talent level? Miami had the fourth most drafted players in the NFL. When you have that kind of talent and eeking by and getting blown out by rivals, at some point it’s not the talent, right?

Patterson would be great but does he even want to deal with the portal/nil anymore? I don't know.

Lynn would be interesting but would need to surround himself with a lot of college guys familiar with the portal/NIL and recruiting.

Harsin no brainer. Only downside is being completely out of the game a couple years. But I'd still definitely make that call.

Mullen would be an absolute swing for the fences hire that could motivate boosters and NIL money.

David Shaw in an executive role in NFL. Not sure if he wants back into coaching anymore or not.

Rich Rod was candidate last time. Not sure if he would be interested in jumping from one G5 school to another or if he'd rather wait for one more stab at a P4 job. Haven't seen any updates but I think he's still in mix for WVU. I'd be pretty happy if that's where we landed.

We are the Stanford of the less west than Stanford.

The problem is that we aren't hiring any of the great names that we come up with. Who is coaching at Liberty or Gorman? That's who gets the nod...

Of this list, Lynn is the biggest question mark. All others would be a a very good hire that would make a splash.

Meant during the time period (obviously). Not overall. Miami was a decent ACC team, Florida St won a title. Florida State had 30 draft picks from 2013-2015, including 6 1st rounders and 7 2nd rounders. Big gap there. That’s my point. Not trying to argue here, just simply thought he’d be a good choice. He did beat Florida and some of those losses to Florida St were much closer than they should have been. At the end of the day, we’re not getting a sure fire candidate. Anyone we get will be with some risk and unknowns. That just where we are at. Bryan Hardin, who seems to be among everyone’s favorites, didn’t even last 2 seasons at Auburn so not exactly a slam dunk either.

Could get behind anyone on that list. Especially if Lynn brought his son. Wonder if his son got the HC job, if he’d come work with him as OC? That could be the best of both worlds potentially.

Why not Sanford since he just took Faith Lutheran to the state championship and now UNLV has nice locker rooms, he should have no excuse to do well now ha

I say pass on Rolo. Rolo was a somewhat realistic candidate last time (still had some things to work out with WAZZU).
But is seems like we should aim higher than many of the candidates we were talking ourselves into last time. It is a better job now, and we know we have more money to potentially spend.
Anything that sounds like Rollie Massimino is a hard pass for me!
