Memphis home and home scheduled.

Memphis basketball will travel to Las Vegas where it will face UNLV in a non-conference game during the 2024-25 season, sources confirmed to The Commercial Appeal.

The date has not yet been finalized. It will be the first game of a home-and-home deal with UNLV, with the Tigers hosting the Runnin' Rebels during the 2025-26 season.

Memphis and UNLV have not faced off in men's basketball since the 1997 National Invitation Tournament, and next season's matchup will be just the sixth game in the series' history. The Runnin' Rebels lead the all-time series 4-1. The Tigers' only win came on New Year's Eve, 1970.”

Peery smoke.

“Additionally, multiple sources have told me influential people in BYU’s administration have liked Peery for years as a potential replacement for Pope.

I’m quite certain Peery would take the BYU job if offered, and brings a lot to the table with his background and coaching pedigree.”

Transfer targets??

Looks like we missed out on another 1?? according to the sun we were after Kylan Boswell. Seems like we been striking out a lot. That happens when u have a lame duck coach. IMO. We are going to have to overpay for anybody not named DJ Thomas or a Vegas native( sometimes. Kids want to win. Atleast the ones i want. Im sure CKK resume is being used against him. If we lose Peery known for his defense? thats the only somewhat positive thing we had last year in regards to a team. Not talking about individuals. WE miss out on Henley and Butler then we are in some real trouble. I wonder if Thomas will pull a Maiava? Food for thought! This is the MWC not the SEC or Big 10 . Look at the teams that are competing these days. MWC use to be much stronger not a power house ,but better than what we have now. They have marginal talent. NIL is changing everything. Hopefully if things go as i assume they will go AS OF NOW that after this next season we go all in on Will Wade. Hopefully something is in place already or starting to. His show cause penalty is expired in summer of 25. Unfortunately 4 us he will have some heavy hitter suitors after him. Depending on how the coaching landscape unfolds next year. Maybe he would like the whole Vegas and UNLV has to offer. Not as much money ,but with the stadium, training facilities , and all what Vegas has to offer. Someone like him would flourish here get more NIL money , much more of a closer (recruits on the fence ) and get the Bill Bayno treatment. BTW he is only 2 years older the CKK.

Odom Contract +

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football head coach Barry Odom has a new contact that runs through 2028, Director of Athletics Erick Harper announced Friday. The updated terms include an additional year and future retention bonuses.

Odom, 47, became the 13th head coach in UNLV football history in December 2022. In his first season in Las Vegas he led the program to its most wins (9-5) since 1984, a first-place regular-season conference finish and the right to host the Rebels' first appearance in a Mountain West Championship game. UNLV then made its first bowl trip in a decade where it faced Kansas in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix.

"We are obviously thrilled about what Barry Odom and his staff did in year one leading Rebel football," said Harper. "The program is on an upward trajectory and we could not be more excited about him leading the way. Barry continues to be a man of his word, focusing on growing all phases of the program the right way. He is committed to his players, coaches and staff and with the newly expanded CFP he is laying a foundation that gives Rebel Football a chance to compete at the highest level. I look forward to working with Coach Odom for years to come."

"When I first met Coach Odom a little over a year ago, I shared our expectations for UNLV Football – including that we want our team to compete and win at a high level and be embedded in the incredible culture of our community," said UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield. "He's met many of those expectations after just one year. Coach Odom's exceptional work ethic, strong character, and commitment to success have been evident since day one, and I'm proud of the program he is building and the direction of Rebel Football under his leadership."

Last season, Odom became UNLV's first Mountain West Coach of the Year since 2000 and the program's first-ever finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award along with various other national coach of the year honors. The team also shattered records in the classroom, including the highest cumulative grade point average at 3.22 and boasting the first First Team Academic All-America honoree in program history.

"On behalf of our coaching staff and our football program I'd like to thank President Whitfield, the Board of Regents, and obviously Erick Harper for their sustained commitment not only to myself and our staff, but also to our entire football organization as we continue to grow and elevate our program to a national level," said Odom.

"I'm excited about the foundation we have built in the past 16 months and I certainly look forward to our strong future. I'm thankful for our staff and our student-athletes -- they are on a mission to win a championship. I'm also thankful for the tremendous support we receive from the UNLV community, its fans and business partners and the extraordinary city of Las Vegas as we build a program in which we can all be proud. Together, I'm confident that we will continue to move the program forward and have success."

Mountain West

Does NIL and unlimited transfers mean the end of Mountain West and other Mid Major programs having any relevance whatsoever? Will all the non P4 conferences be like the SWAC or SOUTHERN? It seems it will be like the Yankees with no salary cap against the A's with a salary cap. Will top college players forgo the NBA till all their eligibility is used because they are making more in college than they will get going pro? Will the NCAA be able to maintain any relevance? If your team has no chance to compete why pay big $$ for a coach? Why waste $$ on NIL? If our conference is irrelevant how many fans will stay loyal? If not, why play in the MACK?

When NIL was first announced I thought it could be the end of relevant sports for the Rebels. But I didn't really believe it for some reason. But now - I'm not so sure.

Curious..

Is this 2 year handshake legitimate b/w DTJ & UNLV or did the NIL money come thru & get close to UH & others? Honestly curious about how this worked out?

If I’m DTJ.. I milk the home university for as much as I can.. Collect.. Have another stellar Sophomore/season, & then transfer to P5, collect some more.. DTJ can leave college ball & live comfortably for the rest of his days.. Depending on his motivations..

As far as next season goes, I’m starting to picture a team that will compete, still depending how everything transpires..

We got continuity/talent returning.. Some incoming freshman that meet the eye test.. But what do we actually get? To me, depends on what CKK does with these 4 scholarships, get some scorers around DTJ, could be something good brewing.. But honestly, that’s hopeful thinking.. Yet, I can picture it.. So at the least, I’ll take it..
