Ladji Dembele, Iowa SF to UNLV

Iowa transfer Ladji Dembele is headed to UNLV, he told ZAGSBLOG.

“My brother lives there and I’m going to be closer to him,” Dembele said.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore forward from Newark, N.J. started 21 of 33 games last season, averaging 16.7 minutes per contest.. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 46.7 % (57-of-122) from the floor and 38.2% (13-of-34) from 3-point range. He reached double-figures in four games and had 8+ points in seven contests.

In November 2022, Dembele chose Iowa over Wake Forest and Rutgers after previously considering others including Seton Hall, DePaul and Pitt.

OT: OFF TOPIC Coronavirus

over the past week, ten days, I’ve been swamped by texts from people wanting to know how bad they should worry. A few threads about it here with comments, texts from people here, family, etc. Even in public, I’ve been asked by people I know.

I’m not a doctor but obviously I’m in a closely related field and have access to information regarding it.

My take is similar to what is in this claim - at this point in time - but this is a novel virus, so I’m positive thoughts will change and maybe very drastically, so keep that in mind. It can get worse if we aren't careful and I don't believe we are prepared for worse. I came across it just a few minutes ago, looks like it’s been out there for awhile, but I believe it to be succinct enough and spot on FOR RIGHT NOW. If it worsens, it could potentially be a life altering event most of us have never experienced. Viruses are nasty, nasty, nasty

If you are interested, take a look.

Like recruiting, this could change 180 degrees at the drop of a hat.

UNLV basketball adds guard from Texas-Rio Grande Valley

Pastner also successfully retained two high school commitments: local standout Mason Abittan from Coronado High and 6-foot-8 forward Tyrin Jones from Utah. The program announced that redshirt James Evans Jr. and reserve Jacob Bannarbie will also return next season.

We won’t know how the pieces will look and feel until the dust settles on the roster remake. There are currently nine players in the fold.

You think we can upgrade the UNLV track outside and turn it into an indoor facility?

Dude, me and my roommate watched the races yesterday. Godfather was making fun of the guy in pink cause he couldn’t tell if he was a woman or a man.

So anyways, they were pretty competitive.

The women’s was dope, I can’t find the exact quote but she said she was racing to Jesus and she won.

upgrade and parking for UNLV football

I have received from UNLV football an e-mail for upgrade of ticket and parking for next season at UNLV football. I may be considering an upgrade to tickets, but have not decided, but the parking was interesting. While the onsite parking is overpriced, I have noticed that they have parking of stadium grounds listed as low as $10 per game purchase ahead of time or $50 for the season. I little bit of a walk, but that is only a little over $8/game. I currently just find parking and typically was paying around $15-20 per game. Looks like Allegiant stadium has figured out they are losing money to all of the surrounding parking lots, so have cut their prices on the surrounding parking lots they control to capture more money! Assistant coach Anthony Wilkins

Hired today.

Anthony Wilkins is currently an assistant coach for the UNLV men's basketball team, as announced on April 17, 2025. Previously, he served as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt during the 2023-24 season and at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) starting in August 2024. Before that, he spent five seasons at Georgia Tech, where he was promoted to associate head coach in June 2022 after four years as an assistant. He also acted as interim head coach from March 10, 2023, until Damon Stoudamire’s appointment.

Wilkins, an Atlanta native, joined Georgia Tech in 2018 after five years at Tulane, where he was an assistant coach for four seasons and director of basketball operations for one. His coaching career began at Kent State in 2012-13 as director of player development. He is recognized for his player development skills, notably contributing to the growth of NBA players like Jose Alvarado and Moses Wright at Georgia Tech.

Before coaching, Wilkins played professionally for six years in Sweden, Ukraine, Mexico, South Korea, and the NBA G League. He was a co-captain at Kent State, earning defensive player of the year honors in 2002-03. Wilkins is noted as a rising coach, having been invited to the Collegiate Coaching Consortium at the 2022 Final Four.

Former 5 * DE Tunmise Adeleye from TXST via Michigan State via Texas A&M. I saw he had some pretty serious legal issues at TXST and was released by the Bobcats.

For those thinking about travelling to the first game this year

I just found out talking to a buddy who is a fan of Sam Houston, they are upgrading their stadium and will be playing their games in Shell Energy Stadium, which is in downtown Houston and is where the Houston Dynamo play. A purpose built soccer stadium that is pretty cool, and probably very very similar to where Kansas played us last year.
So travel to this game will be easier, since Huntsville is about an hour to hour and a half from Houston depending on the airport that you are flying to.

So it basically a Houston road trip 2 years in a row. Which is great for me!

1’st Scrimmage

I had a good time out there today. The weather was nice, slightly overcast & it was a nice turnout. Hunkie Cooper greeted folks on the sidelines.

We definitely have some dudes out there this year. A number of freshmen will see the field for us. I don’t like to comment on players but I will say that Orji is a much better passer than I was expecting & Collandrea is a much better runner than I was expecting. Definitely a deep and talented RB group. Lots of variety with the TE’s.

It should be a fun year coming up.
