Stumbled Across This..(Big 12 Expansion/UNLV)

Stumbled across this on YouTube. Videos a bit long has some commercials. Anyway guy is a West Virginia fan that talks a lot of college football. He dedicated an entire 20ish minute video about Big12 potentially adding UNLV.

He mentioned two quotes from sports writers that prompted him to do the video.

He's pretty level headed did a prospect and cons but seems to think UNLV to Big12 might have some legs.

One quote in particular (I think around 6 minute mark?) from Big12 commissioner was pretty interesting. Paraphrasing commissioner said Big 12 does. 'Wants BIG12 to have more events in big media markets like Las Vegas where Big12 doesn't have a presence 'yet'.
At 4 minute mark he discusses Texas Tech writer saying UNLV was under considerations for BIG12 a year ago.

He's pretty informed on how the PAC/MWC stuff went down and the agreement UNLV signed with MWC.

Anyway decent listen.

Assuming Hawaii gets done..Then what?

Getting Hawaii done is paramount obviously but after that then what.

Saw adding Hawaii as full member could keep MWC media deal around 5-6 million. Amazing what the degenerate gambler demographic adds to your media market value.

CUSA teams seem the most likely potential additions but not sure how much any would add to a media package. There are some interesting Sun Belt teams but honestly unless you could add a minimum of at least 4 'Eastern' schools not sure it makes much sense for any to join financially without travel partners.

NMSU seems a natural fit but being only 100k population in Las Cruces and only 50 miles from El Paso they probably don't add much for a media deal. UTEP despite their struggles was the better choice based purely off their population vs NMSU.

Sam Houston State gets you a second team in Texas and they are playing decent football.

La Tech probably a no.

Western Kentucky would be a good get and increase conference footprint but would need travel partners.

There just aren't many West options really.

Not sure even as football only Toledo and NIU make a lot of sense. Feels like you would need a few more 'Eastern' teams as travel partners for it to make sense.

8 with Hawaii full member gets MWC to the magic number but means teams are going to need 5 OOC games which isn't ideal.

Cost of Suites for UNLV football season tickets?

Does anyone know how the suites work for UNLV games? I've heard people say that they're separate from the Raiders games, at which point I'd guess you could probably acquire them for unlv season tickets. I'm just wondering how they do the cost of those? Is it based on occupancy? Do you have to buy the suites, and then buy tickets too? Or just get the suite and you can bring up to 20 people (or whatever number it is) into them with no problems?

McD

Not McDonalds.

Still has a couple more weeks I believe. I think it’s a lower leg fracture, I believe fibula.

I’m not a doc, but I’d think long term it’s better than an ACL or the like.

Somebody correct me if they’ve heard differently.

I think Mani is now injured? I thought he filled in pretty well in McDuffie’s absence.

“Did you guys win again?”

I got asked this question when I walked into a gas station today here in Austin TX- by a guy checking out that glanced over and saw my UNLV shirt (as one should always rock, but much easier recently).
Me: proudly answered with a big smile - ‘Yess Sirrr!
Guy: responded with a chuckle - ‘nice… wow
Me: ‘keeping it going
Guy: ‘ya man, keep it going

It hit me as I was walking out…
He asked… ‘Did you guys win again?’

UNLV v Boise State

It looks like the ticket sales for the UNLV v Boise State game are going quicker than those from the Syracuse game. Not sure if this means a larger number of UNLV fans, or if Boise State is bringing a large number of fans to Las Vegas? My best guess is there are around 2,500 tickets remaining in the 100 section with 15 days still left to sell tickets. Based on the last game attendance, that would put the number at around 29K+ tickets already for the game. Beat Utah State and Oregon State and UNLV will likely have their biggest home attendance game in their history, with a really good shot at 35K-40K attendance. Sucks that the game will be on CBSSN. I wonder if there is any chance the game would get switched to a larger network?

ODOM

If we can get past this season without losing Odom I’ll feel a lot better about the long term prospects of our program. We lose a ton of talent on offense and defense this year, including a good part of our OL which has played together for a few seasons. Odom and crew have shown to be excellent evaluators of talent in the portal but they’ll be replacing a good amount of the team. Point being if Odom has offers, and I’m sure he will, staring at the possibility of a slightly down year at UNLV or going to a P4 job may be too attractive to pass up. Layer on top of that the conf changes and it may all add up to tilting the balance toward his departure. I sure hope not but this off-season could be the turning point good or bad.

Oregon State preview

Little preview for Oregon State, note that is pre reno.

Offense: 2082 yards of offense. 1413 rushing, 669 passing.

The Beavers' offense is run-heavy, with an emphasis on establishing the run to set up the pass. Looking at the numbers pre reno, Oregon state had 2/3rds of their plays be runs. Those runs come from a combination of QB Gevani McCoy, RBs Anthony Hankerson, and Jamious Griffin. OSU has been averaging 264.4 yards on the ground game while keeping 152 yards in the air.

Gevani McCoy has been a competent signal caller for Oregon yielding 697 yards through the air with a 62.6% completion rate. While at a glance those numbers seem reasonable, the production hasn’t really beared fruit. So far McCoy has only managed 2 passing touchdowns (3 on the ground) this season with 5 interceptions. By contrast, the departed Rebel QB that we don’t speak of threw 6 TDs in 318 yards.

The Beavers have a strong offensive line with players like Joshua Gray, Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan, and Van Wells. The average height and weight of the starting five is 6'5" and 322 pounds. Expect this line to be good at run blocking schemes; but to struggle in pass protection. Shut down the run, win the game.

Defense: 4-2-5 base allowed 1794 yards, 891 rushing and 961 passing.

Insert default paragraph on the secondary and DL woes from UNLV’s Sanchez era. There is almost non existent pass rush, and coverage on deep plays are lacking. Statistically, their defense is better at stopping the run than the pass. But that’s about the only positive stat.
