Let’s get a big crowd out there!!

So much for the theory of a slow build.

I think the slow build days are over with the portal.

Taking a deeper dive into this, a fair amount of guys playing significant minutes are Arroyo guys. That's not a knock on Odom. Instead it's showing the difference a coach can make.

I still think with massive roster sizes in football it can take 2 or 3 years to right the ship depending on the school. But you better be seeing progress each year.

Basketball there's really no excuse for it to take more than 2 years.

Boise

I'm actually physically nervous about this game because of how much it means.

What I hope will happen.

Big crowd energy makes a big difference, we keep Jeanty to a Hawai'i-esque 35 carries 200 yards and 2 TDs but we force several INTs and finally have some good calls in the red zone and we win!

What I tell myself will probably happen to make it hurt less later.

BSU and Jeanty take the crowd out of the game early and go up big quickly by 3 scores. We fight back and get close just to have Jeanty and Company put us to sleep on back to back 10+ play touchdown drives that eat up almost all of the 4th quarter.

This staff has given me a lot of reasons to have hope and believe in this team. We're generally well prepared and play disciplined complimentary ball. So I have a lot of hope...

Looks like recruiting has picked up!

We gotta find a way to keep Barry…. I don’t know if it’ll happen, but man we just haven’t seen this in football before. If he does take a job elsewhere I think they should probably hire Marion.
I am thinking that as well just because of how much it would help with continuity in general as well as keeping recruits. I would lean heavily on Odom's private thoughts on that, but unless they nail a home run hire for continuity I would keep Marion. Hopefully it doesn't end up being an issue and he stays.

I also hope we give those 600 recruits and their families a night to remember tonight!

Listen I know people have different financial situations but these prices are more than reasonable for a college football game these days. Add in the fact that the venue alone is a top of the line NFL Venue where the amenities and concessions are top tier. The prices aren’t holding fans from coming, they just aren’t. People complained about Sam Boyd’s location, the dirt parking lot, bathrooms, concessions, the open end zone. UNLV is blood letting set to come up witha crazy figure just to be in consideration of keeping Barry Odom and we want to sit here and complain about lowering ticket prices. We can’t have it both ways. People are willing to spend crazy amounts on Raider tickets and Knights tickets. Win and get momentum and people will show. Look at what’s happening right now
I don't disagree with you about the prices. They're fair. IMO, whether right or wrong, I think it's easier to get people to come back additional times, than it is to get them in the building for the 1st time.

And I agree also about winning. If you win, people will show up, but it doesn't always happen right away.

These same people have no issue with spending $100 for a meal, or dropping $250 in a club. The cost isn't an issue, all that discounting the price of tickets will do is piss off those loyal fans who paid full price.
Im sorry, but how many locals do you know regularly drop 250$ to go clubbing that would also attend a UNLV game...
The problem isnt the value, its the long local history of not being a quality product. Las Vegas locals complain about ticket prices because for decades the product on the field was unwatchable. Now you've got a good product and want to increase local support but the price point makes it very difficult.
Case in point- at 43 bucks a ticket, thats almost 200 dollars for a family of 4. That family of 4 isnt regularly dropping 250 in a club or 100 bucks for dinner and when they do spend that kind of money, they are doing it 1x. You're trying to build a long term relationship with new fans and fans that were casual at best prior to Odom. You want them to drop in for 1 game, fine, but you want them to come back or next year buy season tickets because they had an affordable awesome time. Yes, the product is much better, but there's alot of locals with long memories of losing to Howard and dont care its in a shiny new stadium, thats not why theyre attending the game.

GCU to the Mountain West

Local sports radio talking about expansion in general mentioned GCU to the MWC as being imminent. So I Googled and it sounds like it is close.

That has to be the plan or Scherer ODOM hypes him up. 1000% you have to keep as much staff as possible. Odom leaves and take his staff we will have to another rebuild. UNLESS we find a HOMERUN HIRE!

I've been on that train for a while also. I know there's a cost to opening up different levels due to staffing, etc, but we also want to build the crowds. This Boise game is huge obviously, but maybe they can offer some discounted rate for the next home game to all people that attended the Boise game. Or something similar.

Line ‘em up: Predictions and Game Thread Boise

As much as Odom has been wonderful for the program and University, I don't believe he has beat anyone yet that would be considered top 50 when the dust settles. Maybe the win at AF last year is his best win at UNLV? That AF team crashed at the end of the season and has scarce won since.

Boise is a legitimate top 20 team. I believe we our punching above our weight in this one.
