IF REMAINING MWC TEAMS WERE SMART

I really feel if they get Tulane and Memphis to commit, they need to bridge the gab some. Get Texas State and UTSA. Gives you some local interest with the rivalry, a small piece of texas, and reasonably distanced road games for Memphis and Tulane.

Looking at current makeup, Tulane is only slightly closer to the rest of the AAC anyway. Memphis being far west tennessee, they are more in the footprint of course.

I keep seeing North Texas involved in posts and commentary (mostly Twitter). They be second to last resort for Pac 12 into Texas imo. UTEP would be the only one I would want less if I was P12

Those 5 aren't much further from Tulane than 4 or 5 of the PAC12 schools, right? I haven't mapped and my geography sucks east of Colorado....
I guess it depends on what they're looking to do. Do they really want to create a new conference that spans from Washington to Florida? Maybe they do, but I was thinking they would try to stay somewhat more regional.

Yeah but our commisioner spent money on a 'threatcaster'. A person who's sole job was to identify possible poaching threats from other conferences.

And it was our own conference members. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The threatcaster is the reason the poaching provision with the Pac2 was put in place. Guess they underestimated what the poaching fee should have been. $10M/team should have been the price.

You were correct we had a traitor in our midst. It wasn't that we let the foxes in the hen houses. They were already there.

I no longer believe you are a sleeper agent. 😀

And our commissioner got absolutely bamboozled..
Yeah Gloria got blindsided. And I was so looking forward to having her be the Pac-14 Commissioner. And I will say again, I do not the like the way tis came down. Screw the MW just like we got screwed. But the remaining schools have a somewhat soft landing with all the money that will be shelled out. Plus you still have 2 full seasons as a conference, then the 2-year grace period. So no hurry at all to do something drastic.

For UNLV (and AF), don't give up yet. The timing of the poaching payment, and possibly getting your hands on some of it, is intriguing right there. Granted it's only about $5M per remaining team. I hold firm to the belief that a Pac offer is coming. To me we need to get UNLV and either AF or ? from the MW to solidify at 8. Then these Memphis/Tulane/directional Texas notions can be put on the backburner for awhile.

WSU's games with BSU, Fresno and SDSU have taken on a whole new meaning. Wish we were playing you guys too.

I have solace in the fact SDSU has f**ked up every time they've attempted to change conferences.

From their intention to keep the Pac12 name. I see a 6 west 6 midwest/south makeup. UNLV doesn't fit that mold, but I'm not sure what tv partner is going to latch on to Pac12 now and for what amount of money? Apple was the only taker with the old Pac12 for the amount of money they sought last year. I guess it will be more that the MWC, but why? I really hope it's a CW/TNT/TruTV/History Channel deal.

UNLV has been and needs to continue to be proactive and look out for itself. Try to get in the AAC. That's the only option at this point.

Says who? I have read nothing other than message board comments about Gonzaga and nothing about St. Mary's. As I've said before, WSU hates Gonzaga. We don't want them.

Yes, thats the one being referred to... Frankly put, those 4 schools absolutely F***** their conference friends and instead of holding strong to get the Pac 12 brand they believe they are superior to every other program in the MWC. Maybe now we'll get a few fair whistles in basketball this season...

But we had a threatcaster! How could this happen!

PAC supposedly wants Gonzaga and St Mary's. I don't see Big 12 happening best case scenario is the PAC which is probably lateral from the MWC or maybe slightly better. The AAC without Memphis and Tulane is a huge drop off.

Why are people keep mentioning Tulane? They lost their coaching staff to Houston, a Big 12 member which UNLV soundly beat? How have their fared this year?

What else is important? Their facilities?

Guys read the ESPN article. Your head will spin.

The traitors were among us.

UNLV was not in the plans.

MWC commissioner is an IDIOT of epic proportions.
Haven't read it yet. But so you mean this one from. Early today?

IF REMAINING MWC TEAMS WERE SMART

IMO, it seems like it would be really difficult for Tulane and Memphis to commit to this new conference. A few of the challenges are:

1. AAC departure. The current conference requirements say a departing school needs to provide a 27 month notice, as well as pay a $10 exit fee. The thing that sticks out most is the 27 month exit fee, since the PAC would need the new schools to be part of the conference sooner than that. It's likely the conference would let them go earlier, but at a higher exit fee. In the last round of exits (Houston, etc), it was $18 million per school with the shorter notice.

2. No known media deal for the the PAC conference. The current AAC deal gives each school around $7 million per year, so they would have to give that up, for an unknown amount as part of the new PAC deal.

3. Travel. Currently, the 4 of the 6 schools in the new PAC are on the West coast, with Boise State not being too far from the west and CSU being the most central. Assuming that the PAC adds Tulane and Memphis, you'd be logging a ton of travel time and expense. It isn't terrible for football only, due to the lower number of games, but it would definitely add up for all other sports, which is what I'm assuming the PAC is looking to fill the spots for, not football only. It wouldn't be as bad for the other 6 PAC schools since they're mostly regional, and they would only have to travel to Tulane and Memphis periodically, but Tulane and Memphis would be making those long trips for 6 of their 7 roadtrips.

ESPN Bad Beats starts with UNLV!

It worked out well, but why was no timeout called? I was yelling at my TV, gives me anxiety just watching it.
Odom addressed that in Monday press conference. Basixally:

They thought ref signalled JDJ got out of bounds after his catch and the clock stopped. Headset comms were down, so when they finally noticed time was ticking, they ran Sluka over. Odom said he specifically look at KU defensive secondary rotation and saw they were out of alignment for the call they had coming in, so specifically did not use the timeout

He also said directly if they realized JDJ was in bounds, they would have taken the timeout immediately after the catch

…wasn’t the only reason.

Supposedly because they believe Vegas is a pro sports town and not as much upside for college. And not worth the exit fee payment.
Nah, I think Boise and SDSU didnt want to involve Vegas out of pettiness. They feel vulnerable to the Vegas situation and know something we all dont about other conversations... Boise doesnt want to lose its precious stance as the Cinderella powerhouse of the West and SDSU just out of spite.

ESPN ARTICLE DETAILING WHAT WENT DOWN

This is wild.. There is no way they are going to be able to negotiate out of their exit fees and penalties and they dont have any idea of the media rights deal that may happen at this point other than it only makes sense if its more than 7 for the AAC schools... Also these 4 schools colluded plain and simple to leave and were negotiating to the detriment of the conference behind its back, which the conference should reject any remaining payouts for them...
and Im sorry but the "investment" part of the conversation is BS outside SDSU and Boise...
