You will play your junior year in a $1.9B stadium

Here is a great article about the bump in recruiting.

I love this CTS quote:
“Absolutely, we’ve heard from a lot of kids. Even other coaches have sent me messages like, ‘Wow coach, that’s huge for the program,’” Sanchez said. “One of the funniest things was, kids we’re recruiting were sending me messages congratulating us. It’s pretty cool when kids you’re recruiting are reaching out to you saying congrats. It’s like, hey, commit [to UNLV] and congrats to you too, right? It’ll be your new home.”

How about SA he still has about 650m to play with now. So a couple mil wouldn't hurt.
Rich guys don't get rich by being generous. That said, who knows what SA is thinking at this point in his life? Would be incredibly awesome, and cast him in a completely different light than most see him in, if he just whipped out the ol' checkbook and said, "How much more do you need?"

"...and you know what happened then? Well, in Whoville they say, that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day."

Actually if rich guys donate, it can be a tax right off for them. Especially they are donating towards a non profit institution. So, it's not like it's breaking here bank, it helps them with there taxes

?????? All you get from a tax write off is not paying tax on the money you donate. I could help myself even more by paying the tax out of 100% of the money and keeping the rest.. The only way you are going to get donations of that amount is if you can name something after SA that he may like to see.named after him. What? I have no clue.

SA said the stadium was a legacy project for his family so this would be the same just on a smaller scale.

He said that ? Do you have a source for that ? I'd like to read that myself cause I zero doubt this is true, especially now. I haven't been following this mess to closely about Adelson after he pulled out. He pulled out right ?

After donating 45 million to Trump et al and being worth 35 BILLION he probably could spit million dollar notes out of his ass.

Is there one really wealthy guy in town not associated to UNLV whose done any charity work in this sand pit.

Wal-mart family lives here, Mars Candy family I think lives here. I like the sound of Discount Tire Stadium, Bruce Hale I think lives in Az but is worth about 6 billion and is a great guy.

Russ Werner for Christ sakes lives here, he started Rock Star Energy drink. He went to STSDU though so that out. Let me guess all their money is buried in Swiss land were no taxes are paid. Cheap fukcs

How bout Ed Bernstein, Adam Kutner or Glen Learner they've taken enough out of this city

We've already debated this in another thread. Bottom line- don't tell people how to spend their money. That, and Uncle Shelly never wanted to contribute $650 m to this project. It was all just to sabotage the LVCVA's attempt to get more hotel tax money (which he failed to do). Once it started to look like it would actually happen, he used the lease demands as an excuse to bail. So, credit him for using his might to get the ball rolling then sitting back and watching it succeed without him!

We have atleast 4 multi multi BILLIONAIRES in Vegas! You would think they would contribute a million between the 4 of them to help pay a coach. Give back to the community. Not my money, but its my team.

The one family that has lived in Las Vegas and has not gone to UNLV but has made many donations is the Fertitta family, who also built the Tennis complex as well as other donations. Also the Lee family who made their money in California real estate donated about $15 million in one gift. Caesar Dinucci has given more than $3 million; Caesar's Palace, Station Casino, Boyd Group; MGM, etc have all made numerous multi-million donations over the years. Just look at many of the building names on campus and you will get an idea of who made many of the million dollar donations

Sanford and Sandra Berman, Fred and Harriet Cox, the Engelstad Family Foundation, George Maloof and the Maloof family, Robert and Paula Mendenhall, National Security Technologies, Bill and Bonnie Paulos, and Bill and Bonnie Wortman, Elaine Wynn, Irwin Molasky, Thomas and Mack, Howard Hughes Company as well as many more all made donations of $1 million or more.

The funny thing is that one of the biggest donors to UNLV is Sheldon Addelson. He has made numerous large donations to UNLV that total well in excess of $10 million. The last major donation that he made was for $7 million towards the currently under construction hospitality hall building, a large donation to the UNLV library. He has also made numerous other donations to UNLV and is involved with the UNLV foundation.

The current list of billionaires that live in Las Vegas:

Sheldon Adelson
Nancy Laury Walton (Walmart)
Phil Ruffin (Casinos real estate)
Steve Wynn
Elaine Wynn
Frank Fertitta
Lorenzo Fertitta

There are also another half dozen who have very close ties to Las Vegas but are not listed as residents of Las Vegas.

Ruffin from Kansas City, Slight chance of donation. He's working on a project on the strip. Again, he might like his name on that building though. He's very low key here, his 2 properties on the strip are worth a fortune.

Wynns, it'll take a miracle, but I'm sure their name in a stadium would stroke that ego. Screw them. I'd rather have Kmart name it

How much more can you ask Fertittas
Dana White gots money too, what's his problem lol

Waltons have been here forever and their money goes to university Missouri and Memphis and have a horse farm. 1 kid who cheated at USC and had to give back her diploma lol. She's hot though

Adelson and Ruffin are the wild cards

Theres close to 100 billion right in that list. No one seems to wanna fork out 1 million or so for a name. UNLV has bled a lot of local people to death and screwing up everything. Who wants to throw good money after bad time after time. Maybe donations go up after TKM gets kidnapped to another continent..

I was hoping that the Raiders would have to use Sam Boyd temporarily. Still might happen. But if it were to happen soon, UNLV could give them very favorable conditions on the use of Sam Boyd in return Davis could update locker rooms, held add semi temporary seating, and hopefully finish off the donations for the Football complex.

One can dream, right?

I'm in agreement with Davis in that he wants the Vegas era to start "clean". I can wait until 2020. Putting them in SBS just sets them up for failure if the under performs.

Don't forget about the Bigelows (donated before, heiress still lives in Vegas) and the owners of Panda express (have lived in Vegas since 2012)

We might not be able to get Wynn on board, but his ex wife ( also a billionaire) is a huge supporter of southern Nevada education.

While Steve Wynn may not be a big donor to UNLV, Elaine Wynn has always been very supportive of UNLV.

There are a lot of people who are very rich, but not billionaires, that have the potential to donate large amounts to UNLV. It took at least a dozen large donations for the new hotel school building, as well as the medical scholarships, which showed the type of money available in LV.

That's a good point. Forgot all about them

The potential is there for money to be donated from people within the community. One of the roles of an AD is to seek out those sources and get them to give something. Take them to a game and show them how the money will benefit the school.

While Marnell and Fertitta's donations happened while TKM was AD those people aren't involved without the coaches of the baseball and football programs being in place. The next AD has to find new donors on their own not piggybacking the coach's previously cultivated connections.

Just love the way so many people are ready and willing to step up and spend other people's money around here.
We care about the program and want it to grow. It's not a big deal that we are identifying locals who have the money to donate. In many cases, people with this type of money do want to contribute to causes and local community.

How do you raise money if you don't target individuals who have resources to do so? Should UNLV or CTS not have approached Fertitta who made the largest athletic donation in university history if $10M because someone didn't want to tell him how to spend his money?

Quite honestly. I blame the community At LARGE for not donating to UNLV Football. Natives should NOT be complaining about poor program performance for 30 years when far and few donate or go to games. If Las Vegas wants a legitmate football product, PUT YOUR HAND in your pocket and pull something out. Anything. This is how real programs are built.

Pistol. I love the contributions you put forward on the board.

Why does talking about potential donors irk you? How do get high level donations unless you identify and target people who have the money and have a stake in the community? These people are part of the Las Vegas community and may want to help foster a part of it.

I ve been going to practices off and on for all of the Sanchez era. Pete, Bull and his brother have been there pretty much the whole time. Great guys

I ll vouch for Pete. I have a theory, please hear me out. Pete may have donated the 1m anonymously last year, and now is upset that his donation amount will be passed again. Again, this is just a theory, I have no proof. Pete is awesome.

Not irked. Just an observation. We are all part of the community not just the rich. Imagine the community pride if 1,000,000 peeps put in a measly $7.50. Bam! Or 500,000 put in $15.00. Bam! Or 250,000 put in $30. Bam! Or 125,00 put in $60. Bam! Or some combination of the above. Bam! Done. ✅

BTW, a $2.5M donation by a billionaire ($1B) is the same as a donation of $375 by a person with $150K net worth.

Talked to someone yesterday. The Terribles on that corner of Russell/ Procyon is planning on relocating their corporate office there so that is more land up for grabs for developers. I am sure more parcels near the Russell / Dean Martin site will be "re-purposed" adding to the 66 acres currently there.

It will be interesting to watch how much that area changes/develops as the stadium projects move forward.

Yeah, that area will change a lot. I only come to Vegas about 4 times a year, not counting FB and BB. Used to stop at that TH all the time when I worked at the Luxor ('93-2005). I 'll stop by once in a will to see changes now.

Can't Mark Davis fork in a few more millions? If he does, that will get him a good score from the community. Goodwill donation!

Unfortunately Las Vegas is getting the poorest NFL team owner in the league. His net worth is estimated around $500M, but most of that is tied up in his 47% stake in the Raiders organization. He is what the wealthy call "cash poor" - the guy drives a mid '90s Dodge Caravan and is pretty frugal. Don't expect him throwing nice "tip money" in the direction of UNLV.

I believe his "contribution" toward the stadium is actually a loan from the NFL front office.
