Why No Pre-Season/Exhibition Games?

I've been thinking about this over the past few weeks. Why are there no pre-season/exhibition games in college football?

The first thing that comes to mind for me, and probably most of you, is injuries. Obviously injuries are a part of football (just ask Kendal Keys... so crappy) but as the Keys situation shows us, injuries can happen at practice, in a scrimmage, or in drills even.

Exhibition games are held at the High School and the Professional level, why not college? It seems like an exhibition game would be a very valuable tool for coaches to see their players against an unfamiliar opponent and in a game situation. And obviously you could sell tickets to games and generate revenue. And it certainly would have been nice if we could have seen the Rebels in action 1-2 weeks ago to break up the seemingly never-ending month of August.

Anyone have any insight as to why exhibitions don't happen?

Just a guess but probably the same arguments for why there in not a 16 team playoff. Usually opponents of it say the season is long enough as is.

Also and probably more importantly it would be costly for a school like UNLV, either to host or to travel. Im sure some schools would sell out an exhibition game, the same schools that get 60k to their spring games, but for most schools it would be a burden on the budget.
