Tradition Idea...

I was thinking it would be a fun tradition to have a helmet decal for the Cannon game. If you had any playing time (a contributing player) during the victory for the Cannon then you would get the decal. I'd like to see it move forward with that player his whole career as a Rebel. So the next year you start the season with the 2015 decal that you battled for and won and have the goal of adding another one for 2016... and another one... Your senior year you should have a number of small cannons on your helmet or whatever the decal is... and your name going on the plaque (which has been a tradition). I like the idea of emphasizing the importance and tradition of this game. Just an idea... thought it would be fun.

I would like to see more helmet stickers in general. Like how Florida State has all of the little tomahawks. I'd like to see HeyReb Mustaches!

We should put the picture of the wolf being speared on back of the helmet

Thanks, 2000.

My other idea was casino chips but the NCAA may frown down on that as they allow fan duel and draft kings to use college players' names for non-gambling purposes.
(Sarcasm intended)

Sorry to disagree, but I have never liked helmet stickers. In my mind, it creates the impression that some teammates are more valuable than others. This is not consistent with the idea that everybody on the team is a contributor and important.

Also, as fun as it was to win the cannon back, if UNLV is going to be a serious football team, beating unr is not something that ought to be the goal for a successful season! Beating unr needs to become the norm not the exception.

Not a fan of helmet stickers either, but never felt like they in anyway made one player seem more important than another. Players were awarded them at some schools by fellow teammates after film review others its done by coaching staff. A lot of the time they aren't even awarded for things we might think like touchdowns or 100 yards rushing in a games. They are usually awarded for a great block or hustle play.

Agree about we shouldn't be content with just beating UNR. That said, this was a team who's win total was set at 2.5. Beating UNR should be considered part of a successful season. I would love to see UNLV get to a point where an actual bowl season would be looked at as disappointing because we lost to UNR.

On a side note shouldn't it be the Rebellion or other members of the student body creating or coming up with traditions?

The Rebellion doesn't have the ability to pull the student activism that befits Sanchez. It's a damn shame, but I have hope it will change.

Sheesh.... Debbie Downer!

I read after the win last weekend that the Rebels already have a tradition of having a plaque made with the names of all the members of winning squads that win the cannon game, and those are permanently displayed where all future players will pass it each time they show up for practice.

I'm not a fan of helmet stickers for individual achievements either, but RedCannon's suggestion was for a team accomplishment. I actually like that idea.

Have you ever been to Mile High Stadium? Great atmosphere. They do something there that I would love to see done here especially since our DB's are getting better. When a pass is thrown by the opposition that falls incomplete the announcer says the pass from So & So to So & So is, then the entire crowd at the top of their lungs yell out IN-----COM----PLETE!

I work in Denver...
That's a great idea! I have to give credit... :weary:... no, I appreciate that the Reno fans had the similar announcements for the offence on every "FIRST DOWN". That was one of the things I thought swinging the momentum at the end of the game.

As far as the decals go - my motivation in suggesting it was that ALL of the team contributing to the win received sustained recognition and not just the seniors on the plaque. I Love that tradition for the seniors and every senior should take it on their shoulders to win that game, but you are a team and deserve a "stripe" for that battle. ... Maybe that's it- Just a simple Red stripe by the Welcome to Vegas sign on the back of the helmet. Something to let it be known on all our televised games (hopefully a lot more to come!) what that decal means... the announcers are pressed to explain, which is nothing but good exposure for the state.. The largest and most expensive rivalry trophy in college football!

Another note while you have me going... did anyone else notice how many times the shot of "Las Vegas" on the leg of players was used to frame in a shot on kickoff or before a play. It honestly is worth so much to this valley in extra advertising...

Keep it up REBELS
