Yeah but we got that ball rolling. I don't think NY would have done anything had we not said something first. They were headquartered there, made a lot of money for the local economyI don't think anymore than their anger toward NY

just spitballing here;
Do you think the owners would still be salty wth the state of Nevada and their declaration concerning draft kings and fanduel being sports gambling? Some of these owners had stake in both companies.
Good question but I don't think it matters to more than three owners.just spitballing here;

NV got the ball rolling because NY wanted us to. If NV had done nothing, then NY would have jumped in on it's own. So too would the NFL. They just let things come about in the right sequence.Yeah but we got that ball rolling. I don't think NY would have done anything had we not said something first. Would have to go to the legislature. I think they're trying to avoid thatI haven't lived in Vegas for a while but would there be any chance of doing a small increase on sales tax within the Strip (so technically Paradise)? Imagine a .001 or .005 increase then the tax would be 8.11 or 8.15%. For those who work on the strip who might be getting food on their breaks that would be a few pennies for meals. If there could be a way for the state to still take the 8.1% it's currently at and then the small percentage increase goes towards the stadium it might be a small, but helpful factor over the 20-30 years.

That's the question I have as well. I am unsure if the diversion of the room tax they're going after requires legislative approval as well, or if that's a county thing or what.Fair enough. Aside from UNLV just straight up asking for donations and having people pool their money there I just don't know of any way to get money towards the stadium without going to the legislature.
So are you saying a stadium is bad if it brings people in from out of state?The NASCAR comparison is really not a good one since almost all of those who attend the race are from out of town.
I disagree. Yes, local-esque events like some of the above will draw locals but it depends on the type of event. I think you are highly underestimating the number of big time concerts and events that will likely price out locals.Is that what I said? What I did say was that NASCAR comparison is not a good one. The crowds that come from NASCAR events are almost all from out of state fans while the vast majority of events that would occur at either the existing Sam Boyd stadium or a new stadium will rely on mostly local fan support. I never said it is a bad thing if a new stadium brings in fans from out of state, I do say that we should not count on out of state fan support for the majority of events that currently are held at the Sam Boyd Stadium. Will new events help bring in out of town fans? Yes, but not to a level that is seen with NASCAR.
UNLV football games - Currently we have shown that out of state fans will come to games and could bring as many as 10-20k fans if we either play in the PAC12 or a game against a major opponent that travels well.
USA 7's rugby tournament - brings limited out of town fan support.
Monster Jam World Finals - almost all local fans
Monster Energy AMA supercross - almost all local fans
Monster Energy Cup - almost all local fans
Las Vegas Bowl - this even will bring a lot of out of town support
Global Legend Series Soccer - almost all local fans
Pro Soccer Challenge - almost all local fans
World Football Challange - with top level out of town teams like soccer out of Mexico, Spain, etc. international soccer can bring in good out of state fan support,
High School Football state championship - almost all local fans
Various Music Concerts - almost all local fans
Soccer Friendlies - same as above depending on teams can bring in good out of town fan support.
There are events that can bring in out of town fans, and events that can be tied to large convention event, political rallies, NCAA regionals, PAC12 championship, etc, but it will mostly be local events that would most likely pay the bills for any new stadium.
With all due respect, it's time to stop throwing money down that toilet.I wonder if in the short term it wouldn't do better to request the money needed to update the existing stadium by paving the lots, add seats to the end zone as needed, and add another sky box on the opposite side for luxury suits? While it may not give them the perfect stadium, they could figure out a design and look at the possibility of adding a shade structure to the outside skeleton of the stadium. Just my thoughts since the proposed stadium may get tied up in long term politics.
