Wow. Someone is going to be in big trouble about this letter. Read the bottom paragraph.

It's says "We do not plan to share this information broadly at this time but have developed a communications strategy if media reach out to us."

This letter was written by the Vice Chair of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Commitee, LEN JESSUP.

A stadium of this caliber located literally right by the Las Vegas Strip would set it apart as the greatest venue in the world. Can you imagine the events, bowl games (including the Super Bowl), concerts, etc. this thing would host? That location is prime time. And UNLV would become the coolest college campus in the country.

These type things have never moved the needle for me before, but this has piqued my interest

If you were the dude that leaked this, does 'My bad' cover the apology?

Dang this is on local news right now..

I`ll take the raiders in a heartbeat

great for unlv and great for the raiders. i have not said this but i am a raiders fan you wont regret it alot of raiders fans in LV and we are up and coming. Make sure the seats can withstand punishment we raiders fans can get destructive

To the best of my knowledge, Adelson has never expressed an interest in UNLV or any other sports, but he is long in the tooth and stamping his name on getting something like the NFL here sounds like the perfect vanity project for a man who has more money than most countries. Like I said with the T-Mobile Arena, they don't break ground on a project like that without an anchor tenant. If the plans go forward to breaking ground, this will happen. The Raiders would be a perfect fit here, and the other two owners in Texas will block their move to San Antonio. Even Gottlieb has posited this idea weeks ago.

No surprise they're opposed to anything to benefit a competitor.

Exactly. Jim Murren says he wants hotel room tax revenue directed to a convention center only because he knows it will benefit his competitor less than the stadium would. It's BS he thinks another convention center is more vital for the community.

A 60,000 seat stadium would bring in more tourist dollars, and it's kind of ridiculous that a population of over 2 million entertainment capital of the world does not have one.

Murren's love isn't the community, it's money and profit, period, which is also the reason why MGM resorts are now charging for parking on the Strip. As a local resident that gives me one more reason to NOT GO to the Strip. His arguments are purely greed-driven for HIS corporation.

Anyone that thinks any of the major casinos/resorts give a shit about the community is pretty blind to reality. Anyone think any of the major resort owners give a shit about the people struggling to survive in the ground below them? Nope.

I think I mentioned in this forum that the parking charges were coming soon last May. Took so long to impliment because they wanted to take time to work on pr literature. "Enhancing our parking experience." What a joke. I don't know why he's against it, it will only help the mgm. Billion dollar stadium at his back door will only drive business up.

As long as the Raiders leave the ghetto in Oakland, this will only help Las Vegas. This will do so much more for the city than a hockey team (not saying I don't want hockey, I love hockey).

He is not behind it because it won't benefit ONLY MGM. Murren wants all the money and wants all his competition to profit nothing. That may a common business perspective but he takes it to the highest degree. The problem is, no matter how he wants to spin it, His greed and actions harm the community. He can't/won't be happy with benefiting from a project if it also benefits his competitors.

As long as they are looking for over $700 million in public funding, this will never happen. Wish it would, but SA would have to come up with more funding outside public channels to make it so.

When people talk public funding, what exactly are we talking about?

What are the tax increases. How much is it out of pocket?

I think people want see what the cost is to them.

With regards to public funding, from what I've read they're not asking for an increase at all. Just a diversion of the room tax that already exists, but is earmarked for the LVCVA

That is what I thought. If that is the case, why would locals be opposed to that? That tax would essentially be paid by tourism correct?

My thought is they either hear that term and think their taxes are going up or they think their government assistance is going to decrease because of a stadium.

Oh now you are getting into political and social issues. I am sure that will create lots of intellectual debate and discussion on these forums.:chairshot:
