PAC HIRES OCTAGON

Lawsuit.

How I understand it is they are squabbling over 35 million vs 45 million. Gloria just waits it out. I do not believe the MWC needs that money or is counting on it to get anything done. (It would be foolishness to make deals with money not in hand).

Same goes for the PAC. They can't use money that is tied up in a lawsuit. (Again foolish if they need that money to lure schools).

AAC knows the PAC is head hunting now. Nothing is certain but I would have to imagine AAC commissioner is doing whatever he can to bolster his position now and hold onto Memphis and Tulane. His advantage he knows what PAC offered 1st time around and he knows or has an idea what his next contract is likely going to be.

PAC on the other hand until they get hard numbers has nothing to offer. If they knew 12-15 was possible or they had the money to pay exit fees they likely would have.

The PAC is also up against the clock. They have to have their 8th member by June or July of next season. If not, they don't have a conference. Everybody knows that. And that gives schools the ability to drive up the price.

PAC may still be in negotiations with St. Mary's but if you're St. Mary's are you joining for much less than Gonzaga got?

Does UTSA have a spare 5 or 10 million a year for exit fees? PAC was only offering 2.5 to Memphis to help them.

Rice could probably swing it.

At the end of the day the PAC will likely be a better conference top to bottom but won't be much closer to an AQ bid than any other G6 conference.

It's all speculation at this point. PAC may comeback with great offer and land the original 4 AAC schools and a monster media deal. And UNLV will be left with 10 million they'll need to spend very wisely to figure things out.

We'll see..
Well the PAC offered us 6 million in exit fees, that came from Harper. They are more desperate now.

Exit fees aren't crazy when spread out over time. The last 4 to leave the AAC paid 18 for two years notice at 9 a piece, and paid it off over 3 or 4 years.

Say UTSA and Rice is 6 or 7 right now (it could easily be less than that we just don't know). That would equate to 12-14 in fees. PAC offers them 6 as well. 6-8 mil over 3-4 years isn't bad.

That gets them in 2 of the top 4 markets in Texas, and I think both are top 10 in the country. Both play in big stadiums.

It was strongly hinted that the PAC would pay all the exit fees of the first 4, but officially that is not the case. I can see them leeching some of that help to make their conference whole. Again those teams won't like it, but they need a conference.

I didn't even know the PAC was talking to St. Mary's. I was hoping we can scoop them up. St. Mary's does not have the leverage that Gonzaga has. So they can't demand squat. They are looking at what, like 500k a year in the future with the WCC? And they will have a 3 mil exit fee? If the PAC wants them I think they get them. Though there *might* be a way the MW can get them.

Rice has been pretty bad in football and basketball, but typically has a really good baseball team. I don't know if a move to the PAC would change anything when it comes to competitive fire. It seems like every decade they hire a football coach that is pretty good they are decent, go bowling, and that coach gets poached away and they lose all momentum.

Pretty much how I see it. Can’t see them continuing to pursue a basketball only school right now and diluting things further while still in need of a football school.

Wouldn’t surprise me to have them announce a media deal, assuming it’s “ok”, before announcing any new football member.

At this point the polish has worn off the turd and they’re looking for ANYTHING that makes even a small good headline. Adding any of the schools mentioned (aside from some coup) is a negative headline they don’t want.

From the media revenue perspective I totally get the need for football schools. But, the media partners are going to tell us what we need for us to be in a particular price range.

But, sometimes we forget that we have other non revenue sports that won't be able to function in the conference without a certain number of teams. For example men's soccer couldn't compete in the MW because the MW schools didn't sponsor enough teams. Thus we were forced to the WAC. So to bring in just football only schools "might" help the media revenue they might not help the other sports. It's a balancing act sometimes. GCU was a good pickup not just for basketball but for all their other sports. How many more do we need like that I don't know. That is what Gloria needs to figure out and still worry about showing us the money.

Sacramento State or bust.

Sacramento State or bust.

It may be the direction they are forced to go. Nice market addition but I have zero idea what that does for a media deal.

(Cougs having a nice season congrats) Also Cougs twitter and fans are actually relatively cool. Beaver twitter? Holy crap they might be the most insufferable fan base I've ever seen.

I digress.

The possibility remains that PAC could circle back to some of the AAC schools. But AAC is definitely circling the wagons now and preparing to do whatever it can to keep current members so it will be tough.

A little speculation here, I can't see a scenario where PAC comes back to UNLV. PAC would need to pay exit fee and have a media deal upwards of 8-10 million per year to offset what UNLV is getting from MWC. And as unlikely as it is, UNLV would be foolish to give up their get out of jail free P4 card.

We need a media company to come in and straighten this mess out. Put the 8-10 best schools in the west together and the others in another grouping and pay off whoever needs to be paid off to make it happen. This will leave room for some of the old Pac12 to return when the are ready.

The PAC f'd up by thumbing their nose at the MWC over the years. If you took the PAC 10 and added BYU, BSU, UNLV, SDSU that is one hell of a conference in both hoops and football today.
