OT: Hypocrisy in politics

That 3.4 percent inflation rate..no f’n way. That’s way off.
In the 80's and 90's changes were made to how Inflation is calculated. Some feel these changes were made to better reflect the true cost of goods. Others think the changes were made to under-calculate inflation in order to reduce annual increases for people on Social Security and other Federal programs.
  1. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) began allowing for substitution between similar goods when calculating the Consumer Price Index . Rather than comparing the price of steak, they can now compare the price of Steak to Hamburger.
  2. The BLS started making more adjustments for improvements in product quality. For example, if a product's price increased but its quality or features also improved, only part of the price increase would be counted as inflation.
  3. Housing costs: The method for measuring housing costs in the CPI changed from using home ownership costs to using "owners' equivalent rent," which estimates how much homeowners would pay to rent their own homes.
  4. The BLS implemented more sophisticated techniques to account for quality changes in products, particularly in areas like electronics and appliances.
Bottom line the Federal method is not just comparing prices today to what they were last month. They take these numbers but they filter them through multiple complex formulas to come up with what they tell you is the inflation number. If inflation feels like it's higher than reported it's most likely because it is really higher.

The WORDPLAY is why I hate politics and politicians!

Inflation doesn't mean the same items, similar (in their definition).

The Free Cheese Act (I'm making this up) probably wouldn't even offer free cheese, just more money to Ukraine or another war.

Are you telling me altering definitions with the sole intent of creating a false perception is a thing? Who would do such a thing? Even worse are the people who believe new definitions because the government would NEVER do such a thing, they’re out to protect us and do everything in their power to help us prosper.

I am guessing you have not purchase a car lately? The current average loan rate for a new car with a good credit rating is 6.89% for those with not so good of a credit rating, it can go above 10%. Most of the car companies are not currently subsidizing there car loans. By the way, I have a very high FICO rate, but when you buy a luxury car, they do not give the best of loan rates.

It’s because it is down to that now but it was over 7% last year.
I purchased my car in August of last year, but the loan rates are still fairly high with 6.89% being the rate for a decent credit score in comparison to 3 plus years ago when many of the car dealerships would give rates as low as 0% and most had rates under 4% through the banks and credit unions.

Yeah until the fed lowers rates you won’t see those rates come down. We should get a cut at the September Fed meeting so rates should come down 1/2%.

I know I will feel better voting for Kamala than I would have Biden. The thought of voting for Biden just because he wasn't Trump felt horrible. I'll feel even better if she picks Mark Kelly as her VP.

Biden was brain dead when he took office and just got worse. I couldn’t see any appeal in him whatsoever, the only thing that made sense to me was “anybody but Trump”.

If only we had a real media that didnt also think that way.. They might actually stop and ask the tough questions like why the leading candidate was replaced without a vote and how that new candidate has erased their entire policy beliefs and history in the matter of a week, including all their roles and responsibilities within the administration...

Kamala is worse than Biden. She is just the worst. Media is doing it's best to hide her inadequacies and there is a TON. She is a socialist and is about as disingenuous as they come.

She is a racist and bigot as well as her ability to change what race she claims herself based on what benefits she get from doing so. There is no day in hell that I would vote for a crook and liar like Kamala for anything.

So if Harris camp thinks that Bidens agreement with Trump for debates apply to her, does that also mean his policies, his administration, his border, etc also apply? Because they and their advocates sure like to selectively choose the convenient parts and deny the not so nice parts...
The whole which network should host a debate under what rules is stupid and annoying... how about put it on all channels, have each candidate select 1 or 2 moderators, and call it a day... personally would enjoy watching Trump select independent media like Bongino and Shapiro while the left uses like Stephanopolis...

The media told you not to believe your eyes and to believe them instead by running Biden as still being mentally sharp. He was failing before office. They’ll do the same with her, hide the deficiencies, slant polls, etc. The legacy media is straight team Dem. The Dems have the power, the money, the influence, they’ll use every inch of it.

What’s hard to believe is seemingly intelligent people echoing “Biden is sharp, Biden is good, Biden has done a great job” in spite of their eyes telling them differently, they will just respout MSM agenda as their proof. They’re not thinking. Their minds are captured and they can’t think critically. Same thing happened with Covid. And many, many other things.

It’s weird because you saw the same tendencies here. Obviously just a microcosm, not nearly as important but the “Menzies is doing a good job, read the RJ, Menzies is doing well, the Sun says so” … when it was obvious to anybody that he absolutely sucked …. And then once he’s canned, they’ll admit it but want to move on.

So it’s not a new phenomenon, being devoutly married to a side and sticking with them even when they are flailing only to toss them under the bus after everyone else does.

Didn't even know who Walz was until a few days ago and now I've seen more of him in the last 24hrs than I have seen of Kamala since she took over for Biden. Hopefully she doesn't get too jealous lol.

I was surprised to find out he was the one who started the trend of calling Trump weird which is the perfect insult for MAGA crap and he just went viral roasting Vance at his first speech. Can't believe the old guy went for a meme diss about the couch.

Anyway it's nice to see a little bit of normalcy with candidates.

Hopefully there are some actual debates that take place so that can come across even more because the last Biden/Trump debate made me depressed.

Read Hillbilly Elegy... guarantee you'll feel differently about Vance. Guy has a very personal story that connects with a huge swath of society and how he worked his way out of his family life through the support of his grandparents. There a lot of empathy towards the working class and the people that are struggling day to day that the media doesnt want to portray him as having. Making a diss off a fake quote from his book is childish and stupid and exactly what Democrats complained that Republicans do abd that theyre above that kind of thing. Maybe they could try establishing platforms or actually listing their positions somewhere for people to read.

I’ve been over the mudslinging for years.

Get down to your own policy, beliefs, intentions … lay that out on the table and let people decide. Sure, you can point out the faults with the other sides stance. But that’s only part of it. And past actions do count. But what are YOU going to do for the country? The republicans have stated some intentions, but I’ve only heard very (intentionally, imo) vague gobbledygook from her.

This is Morton Downey, Jr middle school shit.

Exactly. I don't care too much what you say, whether you're Trump, Harris, or whoever. Show me what you've done, and tell me how you'll do what you plan to do. Obama pushed the whole, "Hope and Change" thing, but didn't actually expand at all on what that meant. Kamala is talking about how we need to fix the country, but she's been VP this past term, and the administration that she's in is largely responsible for our biggest problems right now. She was supposed to be in charge of the border, and she's done nothing but make it worse. Literally removing some of the border walls and transporting illegals all over the country to places that they need extra votes.

Shes not allowed to talk unless its scripted. Watch theyll start doing interviews with her and itll be very scripted softball stuff. The point being to drive her appearance as being up in the polls enough so that theyll force Trump into debating her on her terms... Theres not a single question that will be levied against her now that she has a running mate to take those. Itll be all scripted speeches. and Im sorry, I dont get the "were not going back" slogan...

That’s what I hate about being vague. It leaves everything open to interpretation and keeps accountability far away. Because I didn’t say what you thought I said. It allows for flip flopping almost seamlessly.

But I think that’s why people do it. They’re taking advantage of the gullible nature of people.

If you’re casual, it’s not your job, you’re not an expert, etc, etc, etc, I can understand vagueness. You shouldn’t stick to hard fast in that case because you don’t know.

But foreign policy IS their job, the economy IS their job, jobs IS their job, inflation, crime, immigration IS their job. So state your freakin position with absolute certainty. The American public deserves it. How are we supposed to know your stance if you hem and haw, if you backtrack and doublespeak, spit out nonsensical, incoherent jibberish? … all I can take from that sort of thing is you are a used car salesman, you only care about personal advancement, people don’t matter to you, the country doesn’t matter to you. And you think everyone is stupid and you’re only half right.

Exactly. It's why they can say stuff like, we're going to 'fix' the border. What does that mean? Maybe fixing it in their mind means keeping it open safely, so they can efficiently bring in tens of thousands of people. Or does 'fixing' it mean, closing it so no one can get through without going through the actual border crossings?

Replace all of those jobs with the truth. There job is to take more and more and give away more and more until most of us become depending and they have turned this country into the motherland!

But, suddenly she is an amazing leader!
Trip loves her and she says that Kamala is way too left and Walz is even further left than Kamala.

If you trust in that woman, are you trusting what she says? Oh wait, she flopped. As politicians do. Lie through their teeth.

I loathe them all but one side is far more radical and nonsensical than the other. I want middle but nobody seems to care about the middle anymore.

Problem is if you peel portions away from either to create a third and a fourth, you end up like Europe where your selling out in order to create a coalition government but then the larger block takes control and does whatever it wants anyways. Imagine losing 10% of your base the way elections are here, that's an immediate L and the larger party that you might more idealisticly align with won't care.

Plus, it’s not a stationary target … hard to plan … ok, after I say this or make this hand movement, i will slowly tilt my head 30 degrees to the right, make sure you clip the top of my ear.

Unless blanks were fired and he had some sort of Hollywood effects going on.

He also used a red dot optic which is not magnified.
