There's some truth to that, but it would depend on the next hire. It's certainly good that the bar is raised significantly at UNLV, so hopefully, if he did go, we'd be able to get a replacement coach like him. But there's no guarantees. I'd rather keep Odom for 2-3 more years, min, if he's going to depart. Unfortunately for us, the deep pockets of the SEC/B1G, etc, don't care what we think.Short term thinking... if Odom makes us relevant as he has so far, you guys think it's just over after he leaves? Nah, we get a pocket full of cash and are very desirable for the next coach...

Can't we just enjoy the season and not fret about losing our coach ! Geez , guys .That’s the dumbest thing you’ve said so far

Why not.... come here, build your dynasty... you go 12-0 with tough 2 rough games and dominate the remaining teams you're still likely to get that G5 nod.. we're all so concerned that the new Pac whatever is going to steal the bid all the time, but they're not exactly historical elites outside Boise taking advantage 10 years ago...Depending on how realignment pans out yes totally agree.
Not if we are the flagship program of CUSA though.

And they got a NY6 invite... and they didn't play anyone in their non-conference... Vegas has a little more opportunity to schedule up.. even if it means tough road games... and it only needs to be a few years...12-0 vs CUSA schedule.
Vs
11-1 vs rumored PAC12 schedule.
I don't know man.
Liberty ran table got to what last year? #19?

I am guessing we have a coach in waiting if he did leave. There's some truth to that, but it would depend on the next hire. That is why out of conference games are so important.Jesus man..
I'm talking about in the future. Not this year.
And the impact of having a better in conference schedule vs weaker conference schedule.

It's time for a Rebel-Net covert mission, we must all make alts and get that Pittman hype train rolling! CHOOO CHOOOI’m going to be a big Arkansas fan this year. Beat Auburn today! Give Pittman another year and leave Barry alone.

Last year was a little weird where all other G5 teams had several losses. Other than Tulane, JMU, etc. To Bulls point, a 1 loss or even 2 loss team would have taken their spot. And for the playoff their ranking system is supposed to have heavy wight on strength of schedule. That's fair.
I just think we may be understating the impact of getting left behind and stuck in a CUSA or AAC scenario.

Most major power teams like to duck tough noncon games. And they usually go for other P4 teams if they do. Not a lot of benefit for those teams to schedule a tough G5 that they could easily lose to.
Most of our schedule was made when we sucked or was just G5 mediocre. It may be tough to really raise that.
Even so 3 games against decent teams with 6 against scrubs makes the SOS tank.
Bottom line, we really don't want to be on the outside looking in.
I was just about to comment on this too. We're all Arkansas fans now here in VegasArkansas wins today!
Arkansas QB, what a specimen.I was just about to comment on this too. We're all Arkansas fans now here in Vegas
That's my point. I know some would like to hire Marion if Odom leaves, but I'd rather go offer a HC that might be on the sidelines looking for their shot and just looking for a big opportunity with a hood foundation.. I sure hope we aren't hiring assistants again as first time HCs, especially those with minimal experience as a coordinatorFrom the perspective of a Utah fan, this year for UNLV is like the year that Urban Meyer led the Utes to defeat BYU to win the conference championship, a BCS bowl, a victory in a BCS bowl, and then left for Florida. He laid the foundation for the defensive coordinator, Kyle Whittingham, to continue with success, make another BCS bowl, defeat Alabama in the BCS bowl, and get invited to a BCS conference. I am not saying that UNLV will make the playoffs this year but a foundation is being laid. UNLV has more upside than Boise State and other posers. I cheering for UNLV to have success this year so that it would have the opportunity to lose to Utah in the quarterfinals of the playoffs and receive a Big 12 invite !
Thank you. Considering how well the defensive coach has done, not so sure he wouldn't end up as the next head coach if they took an assistant. That's my point.
