Looks like the staidum will be passed

Just drive to Barstow and see what not investing does to a town. The old part of Barstow is where everyone stopped on the way to Southern Cal for decades until they went and built an outlet mall and master planning fast food area. Now you go to the old station McDonald's or other places and see how they are falling apart while the new area is making almost all of the money. The big difference is the area that was willing to thing big!

If Las Vegas wants to think small and build 500 room hotels, 10,000 sf casinos, and 30K stadiums then we can just take a look up North at Reno. When is the last time anyone every said I want to take a trip to Reno?

Just once in my life, last year. I wish I followed through. I would have seen the cannon come home.

People said the same about buying a house prior to the housing bubble bursting.
Its silly to build a stadium that cost most than building two high end NFL Stadium for one of the most poorly run NFL teams in the league.
When you walk in the stadium it will be a Raider branded stadium full of silver and black.
UNLV will pay their money for the privilege of playing there similiar to Gorman paying to use Sam Boyd before they built their own stadium. It won't feel like a UNLV stadium when you attend game and will be far oversized.
Its up to the legislators now but I see it as a misguided idea that is doomed to destroy the county's viability in the long term.
You're about the only one who sees this stadium deal for what it is. When you're proven right, you will be able to say, "I told you so."

It's also silly to build multi gazillion dollar hotels instead of holiday inns but Vegas is a bit unique.

Maybe they should should add another few hundred million more to invest in finishing the shuttered Fontainbleau that has become the blight of of the North Strip near Circus Circus that look like trash.
They also could invest money in finishing that second mega ferris wheel across from the Mandalay Bay that was shutter after building the frame.
I would also be nice to see them invest in installing fake grass or some type of landscaping in the 20 year old and older neighborhoods that are starting to look worn down and ugly.
Any neighborhood older than 20 years old has become undesirable all around the area due to lack of reinvestment. Most aren't walk able to poor upkeep overall.
Area schools can't afford pay raises for teachers, provide textbooks and our overall investment in education is poor.

Simply put, the casino industry has been losing money since 2008 and our city would be devastated by another prolonged recession if the area governments remains fiscally irresponsible. We are benefiting from low gas prices right now but we know the energy crisis is over the horizon and the impending water crisis will change the entire dynamics of California which is the heart of local tourism.
This is the worst time to dedicate $750-million in public money to a stadium project that could be built for the same cost as the entire public investment.

With all those gazillion dollar hotels, it brings more residents seeking jobs but the way of life for people in Las Vegas has been stagnant since the mid-90s. If the tourist come in droves for the next 30 years to see our shiny new stadium that produces low paying entry level jobs there will be a plus in keeping our hotels full but not in our overall dynamics.
This is a horrible investment and the NFL is in a cycle of rating loss that indicates a stagnation with a new generation of Americans that aren't as sports oriented and often don't gamble.

This is about more than UNLV. If the dome was only for the Raiders and a UNLV sublease, for 9 days a year, I would agree. Las Vegas just opened up a new revenue stream though. I think it's a no brainer in that perspective. If and how much it helps UNLV football is hard to predict in IMO.
