Depth chart released

I had read a couple tweets from a couple players saying goodluck to Chris Lopez but tried not to read into it. Guess he's gone. Interesting that it didn't appear to be his decision or at least that's what the Twitter tea leaves seem to say. Sucks...thought the kid contributed last year.

Just looked over the depth chart for O line. We have come players but there's a lot of freshman as second string. Not liking that at all.

Walk-On QB, was running 5th on the depth chart. I think he is heading to JUCO in AZ, good luck to him.

Yeah only surprise on the depth chart for me was Iggy Porchia at DE. He had shown some flashes the last few springs but was always a back-up/special teams guy. Maybe things have clicked for him.

I know I saw Zepeda tweak his ankle (didnt look too serious) at the first scrimmage which might be reason for his drop at DE. Overall I like the look of the first 11 on Defense. Lots more speed than in years past and Hough at the Nickel is good as he has a nose for the ball and use his instincts to make plays.

Nice to see Laolagi developing at weakside, he is a monster. Learning from Tau won't hinder his development at all. On the defense, I like all of the ones and the twos. Not too worried about the o line. Its not like they are 6'0 260 trying to fill in for a true big man. All the freshman need to do if called in is to stand there and be big. It looks like we have an O line pipeline to the nfl developing.

I really think that our defense is going to surprise a lot of people this year. It looks like it's gonna be a really strong unit.

I really like Walls & McCoy coming off the Edge in the (DE- REBEL) Spot. I think Baer is going to throw some interesting looks and pressure at teams this year. Lots more speed off the edge this year than we have had the past few seasons.

I like that we don't have a lot of guys listed twice, starter in one spot, backup in another, or the backup in multiple spots. Hough starter at nickel and backup at CB, Presley #2 at X and Z WR, and Holt #3 TE and #2 FB are it, other than specialists. lt really speaks to the depth that is being built.

Speaking of specialists...was surprised to see Bornand not listed as starter, not that he was a world-beater. I just hope Pantels is consistent - in a good way.

The depth is a little concerning. I wouldn't take that chart as gospel though. I think Singer would be the top backup at both OG spots. Also Sanders is listed as the top backup at center. I think he might be the top backup at OT as well having played there last year.

Bornand was having a rough time the last two scrimmages. Not sure if this was carry over from the Spring, since I never watch the kickers and punters.

I think Depth on O line is solid on the interior with Polu, Chevalier, Singer as the top 3 and Garcia as a safety net. Tackle is where it can get tricky but Jacobson and Saxelid are poised for solid seasons. Hopefully we have some breathing room in a few games this year that will allow Caldwell and Outlaw to get some live action reps/experience.

There was no politics involved that I can see but others might have more info. He was 5th on the depth chart at QB. I think he is making a move that is better for his development at QB. Watson I believe tried to walk-on but felt he wasn't given a fair shot if I remember some of his twitter posts, I think he is a little bitter toward the program.

Possible Sanders would be in the mix at OT. He has experience there.

X2 what Buck said.

Stanton, Palendech, and Sneed all performed better than Lopez in the Spring. Rogers is being groomed as the QB of the future. Simple numbers game. Lopez at best would be 4th string if the staff red shirts Rogers this year.

Are you possibly confusing Christian Lopez the QB and Chris Lopez the OG that left in the spring? (I've done it)

Lopez the OG was being pushed by JC transfer Chevalier and Singer. Polu had locked down the other OG spot pretty early. I wish he had stuck around for added depth. However I can't blame a guy for looking elsewhere for playing time.

Yep. Totally missed the two up.

One thing that Barney & John learned while playing and coaching at Nebraska is to rotate your second team OLs into the game for several reasons, including reducing exhaustion, reducing injuries, having guys ready to step in when needed and development of younger players. They'll do that this season with the exception of center who needs to stay in for chemistry. Mark my words if you like, those 2nd team OLs who are ready will play and play often when the bullets are flying. That's how you build a pipeline. :fistbump:

Well at Nebraska, you have the luxury to rotate O linemen due to quality depth. It looks like we will finally have that at this position which is big (no pun intended). Being able to get the young guys game time reps will pay dividends down the road.
