Does anyone know if any coaches have also left or are all of them still practicing with the team for the bowl game?? Haven’t seen anything mentions.

The fact that the bowl game is so early certainly helps with coaches staying to coach it. Not sure what Marion will do, but not convinced that Odom wants him at Purdue. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

I think he stays and coaches the Bowl game for the players, but after that he’s most likely on plane to West Lafayette.

Not saying he would be a good hire for them, but if I'm UNM I might gamble on Marion.

1- He'd 100% take it.
2- He'd be cheap so there would be extra for assistance.
3-He'd create a little buzz.
4-Offense put up big numbers in conference.

Again not saying he would do well. But after the Mendenhall debacle I'm not sure what their options are.

UNM just hired a new AD. He has been on the job about 11 days. They are so far behind in what they need to do for the football program and then Lovo, the new AD, comes out with this:

“I think it’s too early for me to sit here and speculate what exactly needs to be done, but what I do know that needs to be done is we need to take a holistic look at all things,” said Lovo. “The first thing I want to do, and need to do, is to listen and to learn, because without that information, you know, I can’t strategize what the next step is for New Mexico athletics.”

Sounds like he doesn't know what to do. They are so screwed.

edit: His salary is $400,000. About the same as Harper's. Harper needs a raise. Now.

This, is his first AD Job. He's young and only 36 years old.
On, Foreverlobo. The natives are getting restless.
They, think they will get a coordinator, as a last resort. Sucks, for them.

I expect Mullen to bring in a whole new staff. He’s had time to study and make his list of who he wants. It will be a good staff. Don’t see Marion at unlv or Purdue as of now unless something changes. Mullen is going to put together a great staff and a blue print like I talked about 2 years ago. Gonna be an SEC west out west roster.

Agree. I think we see a talent level here that we haven't seen ever and I think that there will be sufficient hype around this team that players will want to be here and media will want to talk about UNLV.

Don’t you think the DC and STC should be on the list to come back? Probably the best defense UNLV ever had and special teams killed it.

Something happened between Odom and Marion or for some reason he doesn’t trust Marion (ie Sluka).

I think those are the best bets to go to Purdue. The defensive guys are all BO guys. Same for Shibest. I think offensively BO is going a different route at Purdue. Maybe Joe Jon Finley type route

Marion would be the same as Mendenhall. First chance he would have to leave unm he would take it. But i agree i think it would be a good gamble for them

I'm not trashing UNM, but that program is in trouble and that job isn't going to get any easier unless they get some kind of new booster money.

You're right Marion would bolt first chance he got, and the expectations are so low there now a couple of 5 win seasons might be viewed as a success and make him an attractive candidate for bigger jobs. It's getting that bad there.

14k attendance when they played the 18th ranked team in thr country and were fighting for bowl eligibility. Not to mention one of the more exciting players in the conference in Dampier.

UNM, have to feel for them a little bit. They had a really good bounce back with Bronco. And poof, he’s done. And then a clueless AD and less money than us.

I think they’re going to be a lot of teams’ 30 point win.

We’ve been there.

Feel bad for them. There is no reason UNM should be awful, they should be one of the better MWC programs.

The fans have given up on them. A few were starting to come back when Bronco won a few games but, now it's all Lobo basketball for them. It's awful to see that football program so beaten up.

Total opposite of what is going to happen in El Paso. UTEP was dying in C-USA and for them to get into the MWC they have life. I can see them actually being one of the top 3 programs in the new MW in the future. Their fans are excited and donors will start coming back. A wealthy family in the El Paso area, the Hunt family, dropped $2.5 million into the athletic department to help them with the transition from C-USA into the MW. On3 shows the 2025 recruiting classes in this order UNLV, UTEP, BSU, SDSU. Their new coach now has to turn that class into something but at least they are moving forward as UNM flounders.

That only applies to basketball. Their football program has been terrible outside the few seasons here and there with Long. Their fans just don't seem interested in supporting football. You never really see them talk about it, their media has highlighted the financial issues, I doubt there's much of a donor base for NIL for football

My BIL is lives in ABQ and is an alum. Played baseball for them back in the 90s. He is a donor and season ticket holder for basketball only. No one supports football. They are still under the mindset, the same one UNLV was under for so long, that basketball is their ticket to relevance. It is such a short sighted view. They have it because basketball is the sport they have had the most success in. I'm hoping this Mendenhall debacle will embarrass them enough to finally realize they have to put forth a true effort to build the football program. Fact is there is some big money in ABQ. They just have to find a way to tap into it. Easier said than done.

No it applies to FB also. There is no reason they should be this bad. They're right next to a state called TX with the most D1 recruits in the country. They should easily be competing with the likes of North Texas, Texas State, Tulsa, et al for recruits
