I can inform you Rebel fans that UNLV is down to 2 coaches in the search. And 1 coach is not currently coaching that I can tell as I was told the coach is meeting with a very large community leader later in the week(so he must not coaching). Now this reminds me of a story I was told that Mr. Wynn being close friends w Rick Pittino and attempted to bring him to UNLV as they are close friends.

I do not know if this is the direction we are in for this week but from what I can tell. UNLV is talking to (1) in-season coach which is active and the other is not.

Another piece of information is that Archie Miller is 99% out unless both parties agree to talk again. From what I can tell that UNLV got tired of the process as its just been chasing. I was told that Miller was very high on UNLV but it seems he isn't interested in leaving. One close friend told me that UNLV could do better. Maybe Miller's luck has run out. If UNLV doesn't get their man maybe Miller and UNLV change their tune is what I can see happening from what I have been told.

Time frame to announce coach? Was told UNLV is down to 2 on their list so I would expect after next weekend 1 of the coaches will be hired or we have to start the process over.

I was at the MWC tournament this weekend and spoke to lots of Rebel supporters about the direction of Rebel basketball. I can assure you UNLV will be attempting to make a huge splash.

The pitino rumors have heated back up a little bit after some more info about the scandal has come out. I don't think it was necessarily new but according reports officially 3 athletes admitted to sex with prostitutes.

Don't mean to be a buzzkill to this post, but, um, the accuracy just isn't close.

Talking to Rebel supporters/boosters is a tough way to go. You'll get crap spewed every which way. Some may be right. Some of that I know WILL be wrong.

I can absolutely, positively, without fear of contradiction say that in no way is UNLV "down to 2 on their 'list'", just as they weren't down to four on their "list" two or three weeks ago. And as an FYI, the Miller thing? Dowsed very early in the process. He is not interested. Can it resurface? Anything is possible but I certainly won't count on it. But I know it was extinguished very early on.

Now - may he have been told these things? Yep, could have. That doesn't make them right.

Not surprised at all. Thanks Joe.

I am all in. We might be down to two names with possibly a third name if the first two names do not happen which is possible because the third option might have been interested until he wasn't, so UNLV changed direction but could resume talks if the first two options don't work out which is possible because they may or may not be interested in which case UNLV will restart the process opening the door for the third option who although he previously said that he was not interested may actually be interested after all.

Stay Tuned!

So your saying there's a chance?

So your saying there's a chance?

Possibly, but maybe not, it depends on your definition of chance, which was also a popular boys name in the 80s, but has lost popularity, leading to speculation that maybe nobody will name their child that again. I can confirm however our next coach will not be named Chance. Well probably not.

Lol, yep. Threatened by words on a message board. I've dodged bullets, quite literally.
Here's the thing. The only information we hear from you guys is basically that you don't know of anything solid, that it's constantly evolving. So if you don't know anything solid how do you possibly know this info is incorrect? This guy has never tried to razz anyone in the forum or anything of the sort so the idea that he is trying to troll everyone seems very unlikely.

You are free to believe everything he's stating.

Pitino officially is meeting with the NCAA in April. TKM has said she would like to have a new coach hired by the end of the month.

How can UNLV hire or consider hiring Pitino, prior to knowing the results of those meetings.

This information is wrong.

You answered your own question. It is constantly evolving. That's why speaking in absolutes is foolish. Especially when the information he is providing is coming from boosters or people inside UNLV athletics that don't know all the facts.. Boosters are not running or involved at this point in the search. They are not being updated every second of the day as to what is going on. They aren't speaking to coaches or agents, UNLV is. The people at UNLV that are making the decision are keeping things compartmentalized because they do not want information leaking and our boosters talk too much.

I've been inside the department before and I can tell you when it comes to coaching searches stuff changes by the minute. There are so many things that have to go right to make a hire. It is not as easy as having a conversation and then signing a contract. Especially for UNLV where finances are a problem.

down to 2?!?!
i sure hope one comes through or i guess we won't have a coach next year. things are getting scary.

Yep. I can confirm UNLV has decided that if they are unable to secure one of these two coaches they are going to hire a local gym teacher and have him just roll a ball onto the court and hope for the best.

They just want us to think that the only correct info is on the confidential broad haha

Anyway they just better do something because we're not only going to lose the recruiting class but probably some players on the team. This is terrible!

The danger of listening to people like Rebel_Westgate is that he creates the illusion that hiring someone like Rick Pitino is a possibility if UNLV only does what is necessary. Then when the process ends up hiring someone who is not Rick Pitino, the perception has been created that UNLV screwed up again.

So I encourage everyone to not drink Rebel_Westgate's Kool Aid. And, just to remind people, it was Steve Wynn that gave UNLV Rollie and his secret contract that cost UNLV something like $350,000/year for 3 or 5 years! If Steve wants RP, he ought to hire him as a casino host for high rollers.

One thing I like about Dixon is his Hawaii ties (I think his wife is a local girl). I could see a renewed home and home series with Hawaii.

On a related note, Rick Pitino began his career as an interim coach at Hawaii back in the day.

What's wrong with Ben Howland? Have you seen our last coaches for 20 years? Except for Kruger we have sucked. Howland has been to the tourney 10 times in his 20 year career with 5 of those years taking over for failed programs and resurrecting them into conference contenders. And when was the last time we went to a Final Four? He went to 3. Plus he went to the tournament 7 out of 10 years at UCLA and if you take away his first year for taking over a program that's 7 out of 9 years. I would take that?

Just in response to a few who don't think any coach is good enough for UNLV. I get tired of hearing people put down any coaches name that is mentioned. We missed out on a coach who knows how to coach was my point. I doubt that he would be interested now after we led him along. Of course I wouldn't mind it if he came here. We gotta start somewhere again

Howland had a freakishly good run early at UCLA but I remember his last years there with a program in disarray, miserable team morale and a disconnect with his own players. I seriously doubt he'd be able to recruit to UNLV the was he was able to get players to sign with UCLA. Plus it's a toss up whether SDSU or Howland's UCLA teams were more boring to watch. We have options. No need to get panicky and pick the first ugly girl you see.
