Available candidates (non UNLV staff)

I really hope Harper gets someone that will continue to build on what Odom has started. I am expecting 2-4 win seasons again. With basketball as bad as it has ever been i am probably going to be difficult for us Rebel fans. But i will still be here routing for our Rebels even if it gets as bad as i expect.

Yeah I know but he may be a coach who does better at tiny schools than stepping up competition.

Yeah I know but he may be a coach who does better at tiny schools than stepping up competition. How do you suck at Michigan??

Bad fit. Wasn't a 'Michigan' guy. People there hated the hire.

His stint at UofA wasn't as bad as people seem to remember.

Wouldn't be first choice but Odom didn't exactly light it up at Mizzou either.

I don't know man we'll see.

I'll expect the worst so I can hopefully be pleasantly surprised.
Same, I'm right there with you, I am going to plan for the worst and hope for the best. Going to be an interesting offseason, that is undeniable.

Patterson is my #1. I just don't think he wants to play the NIL/transfer portal game. But if he does he is the clear top choice.
After that Harsin is it for me. Knows the conference ans basically dominated it. He could slide in nicely.
I like Rich Rod and I think his offense is close enough to ours that the transition could be easy as well. Him and Harsin are close for me.
In general I would prefer one of our own Coordinators over an outside one but the one exception could be Stein at Oregon. He is very enticing.
I still like Shibest as a possible HC candidate. He is elite as his specialty and has been around that I think he could fill out a nice group of assistants

Hard to know how people view the job and what matters to them. I do think Kingsbury seems to prefer the NFL right now and is likely to get another shot if the Commanders continue to do well. Fitzgerald would be HR hire in my opinion, but yes, would have to navigate through the baggage to see if it was something you could do.
Kliff hated recruiting and that was before NIL. No shot he comes back to CFB and especially not for UNLV.

Make Marion the head coach if keep in house or hire will stein. Don’t let it go past those 2
Will Stein will just be Arroyo 2.0 and nobody wants that disaster again.
Marion will only be seen screaming at his players on the sidelines as they cruise to 2 win seasons.

We as fans better hope there are better options than those two candidates.

Other than Harsin that list sucks.

Bryan Harsin

-proven winner (85-36 record)
- won in big games (upgrade)
- has experience taking over a program where a proven coach left.
- wins conference titles (upgrade)
- will bring in a good staff.
- wins bowl games. (Upgrade)
I stole the idea from talking with @Jason Kelly post championship game but that'd be a really good hire and twist the knife for Boise fans. They might be salty towards him now, but they did very well with him

Why not go play like a big boy and hire Liberty's HC... if you want to be a P4, act like one. Pay him 4.5 million, show you're serious with your investment. Taking one of the top G5 coaches says that.

Also Nick Saban isn't doing anything, give him a call?

According to Google..

Jamey Chadwell, the head coach of Liberty University's football team, reportedly signed a seven-year deal worth $4 million per year. In 2022, his total pay was $335,083 for base salary and $144,546 for bonuses

Harper should move quickly and hire Harsin, retain the true UNLV guys on staff. I’m not sure he retains Marion, I don’t know if their personalities would mesh but like Odom, Harsin has got a Rolodex of guys to hire.

If Hunky is interim HC, I almost expect Marion to be elsewhere. That will be the first indicator of where this search is going.

Is Dirk Koetter gettable or is he happy in his home state and has already did his HC run?

NFL HC, NFL OC, HC ASU and BSU, running one of the best offenses in the country.

Doesn’t get much more experienced than that

I don't know about Chadwell. Liberty has a huge financial advantage over his peers, played schedules easier than some FCS teams and lost to one of the worst teams in college football this year.

All right here's my let's be realistic list of candidates I'm sure will make everyone super happy.

Jason Candle - Toledo
Tyson Helton - WKU
Neal Brown - Troy & WVU was really good at Troy
Jim Mora Jr - Uconn & UCLA
Clay Helton - Georgia Southern & USC
Nick Rolovich - Working at a gas station I think.
Brian Harsin - Out of football currently.

Other possibilities.

Rich Rodriguez- Jax State was a candidate last time.
Gary Patterson - If he calls you answer but not sure if he would be interested. Getting into that John Robinson retirement tour stage of his career.

In House (I don't think either happen but never say never)

Brendan Marion
Micheal Scherer

Weird to say.

Would absolutely kill it here.

Or

We have fire the coach threads by year 2.

No in between.

Not sure I have any tangible reasons just a gut feeling on it.

I feel bad I posted yesterday that I thought Odom seemed like more of a fit at Purdue than UCF because he has a blocky head and looks like their mascot. Jokes on me I guess.

Harsin would be solid, though most of his success was built on “taking the reins” and not building a program. Good news is that is the situation here. Bad news is the transfer era makes it a little more difficult to just take over. Still would be among the top candidates for me.

Patterson had a fantastic run and is a great coach. Just not sure he wants to or would be as effective. He’s been very reluctant to leave Texas and is a little older now. If he wants to talk, I’m not certainly not saying no. Probably wouldn’t spend a ton of time pursuing him though

Rolovich was successful everywhere. He was fired because he wouldn’t take a Covid jab.
We at WSU actually welcomed and liked Rolovich. He hosted a happy hour at a bar in Seattle soon after being hired. We were doing OK with him until he and 4 assistants pulled their Covid "against my religion" BS. Shit - I've been jabbed 5 times. It ain't that difficult, regardless of your opinion on the mandates we had up here in Washington. For around $3M/year, wouldn't you do it?

Anyway, I don't know what Rolo is up to now (probably not much). He'd come cheap.

Take 5 more jabs and call us in the morning

What about Silverfield...
Steal him from Memphis.
Again, that's a big boy move. You make him a huge offer he's only getting 2.2 million a year, or you force them into an untenable contract...
