And so it begins.

Apologies to the Mods, but I'm lovin' the s**t outta this baseball talk. 4 days 'til opening day! Whoever you are, your team is currently in 1st place...

Let's Go Mets!! & Go Rebels!
Totally agree! it's like waiting for Christmas. I'm just a sports addict. Love my Rebels, of course, but am also die hard Cubs. Bears, & Blackhawks fan my other passsion is NHRA drag racing. I run D7 Sportsman Super Stock, licensed to run under 10 in the 1/4 mile. Problem is I seem to only date guys that don't like sports and don't ride motor cycles. :(

do any of you really watch baseball before the post season?

went to the Royals against the Angels last season. got one positive out of it, it cured my insomnia. before i get the "you don't understand the game" blah blah posts, please. the game itself i have no problem with. it's after the last out is made, those lazy clowns stroll out like they're talking walks on the beach. then the pitcher warms up forever. truly hard to stomach. can't be for tv timeouts because i'm sure no one is watching. agonizing.

fire away....

I watch it once in a while on tv. It's not as much fun for me since I can't hear Vin Scully calling a game. I don't watch the entire game now since every player is a human rain delay.

In contrast I went to a UNLV game last season and it took two hours. No player took three minutes between pitches adjusting his batting gloves and checking the third base coach with bases empty and a 3-2 count on him. The game was fun to watch since it moved rapidly.

I watch baseball all season long. Enjoy it. Pointless to try and persuade somebody to like it.

I find the NBA boring based on the amount of ISO used, and feel its just bad basketball overall.

Nothing anybody says is going to change my perception of the NBA. There are a couple teams I might like to watch, but in my opinion the overall product is terrible and boring to watch.

Some people love soccer some hate it.

Its like debating musical taste. To me jazz sounds like three dudes playing three different songs at the same time. Other people love it.

I found the best way to watch baseball. If my Dodgers are actually on nowadays with that mess of a TV deal I just DVR it.

Do something else for a couple of hours and then start watching. Takes me an hour to watch a game.

MLB & NBA, playoffs only for me now. not sure what happened, but i used to enjoy watching both.

It's basically that way with all American sports... the amount of play stoppages and commercial breaks us staggering. NFL, MLB, etc... sometimes the last "minute" of a basketball game can take 20 actual minutes to complete. I heatd something like 80 percent of American football games is standing around between plays. That's something I love about "soccer", the action is continuous.

That said I still love the American sports, baseball included. Last time I was in Vegas in 2013 my Pirates were kicking butt and I loved going to the sports books and watching the full game. Love the relaxed atmospherr of it all. To each his own.

I never quite understand the “too much down-time” argument about baseball. I’m not saying that everyone has to love it, but I’m baffled by those who feel this way but are absolutely bonkers over the NFL. Every play takes a few milli-seconds, followed by players untangling, more often than not, a flag has been thrown, zebras and players all huddle, and finally another quick play, and the conferences resume. Finally it’s fourth down and we get the oh-so-exciting punt. And then to commercial. DVR an NFL game and you can fast-forward a three-hour game down to about 25 minutes.

The NBA? I don't watch much. If the Warriors are on, I might tune in, as Stephan Curry is fun. I don't care for a bunch of 7-footers banging away. But great passing can be like ballet. Thats why, in the debate over the greatest player in my lifetime, I bypass Jordan and Bird. Magic Johnson was a joy to behold. His mastery with the ball was pure poetry.

Baseball, on the other hand, if you’re really a student of the game, has so many sub-plots going on before and during every pitch, that you’ll find that they may actually be going too fast. What kind of pitch did he throw last? Is he setting up the next type and location? How are the fielders positioning themselves? It should give you a clue as to how the batter is being pitched.

Etc., etc., etc…But to each his own.

I heard a funny saying before where NFL football is 22 minutes of action wrapped up in 3 hours.

Baseball is the only sport if on TV and radio that I don't mind listening to it. All other sports if given the choice I must watch. Play Ball
