NIU has had an offer on the table now for a few days. I saw some Twitter chatter that a decision is imminent and NIU seems to be on the way to the MWC. Obviously nothing confirmed yet and haven't seen it from any national media yet.

If this happens I think it's a very good addition for the MWC.

It opens the doors for some other Easter or Central time zone schools to jump on board.

After looking at all the possible realistic options out there I think these could all be in play.

1- NDSU Football only. Would be an excellent addition. They actually do solid TV numbers for an FCS schools.
2- Toledo Football only. Pretty solid MAC program and gives NIU at least one travel partner. (Although for FB only not nearly as important.
3- The two Montana schools and South Dakota State would basically corner those markets. Small markets to be sure but you would have them locked down.

I do think MWC would be wise to have enough teams to play 9 conference games and 3 OOC games and have a conference title game. Committee spokesperson said the 'valued conference champions'.

I hate this situation during a season. I feel for everyone.

Without an incredible turnaround that leads to a substantial ending, my guess is this is the last you’ll see of this era.

The part of the situation I like least is … if what I’m stating is truth … only fans want to see wins. And not all of them do want wins (which is crappy, but it happens). With “decisions made”, they don’t want to be forced to change course and delay the inevitable. They just hope it peters out and goes silently in the night without a whimper. It gets much worse for them when there’s a chance to turn things around. By chance, I mean legitimate, not far fetched Cinderella stuff. If there is a legitimate chance, it can get ugly (we’ve seen that before, hamstringing a program in various ways for the greater good of an immediate goal achievement). This team isn’t good, the motivation and effort has been painfully low. If/when they catch wind, it’s either roll over and die or fight. I don’t see fight in this team.

It’s stupid to think Harper isn’t prepared and isn’t checking out options.

I know I never seem happy but 11wins is 11 wins!

They are our opener next year. They play tonight on espn2 in the New Orleans bowl.

Controversy with Sluka. Big wins. Heartbreaking losses. Coach leaves. Show well on a national stage and win a bowl. Smash hire for new head coach.

Became a media darling of sorts, as an underdog that overachieved. Got recognition and it was well deserved.

We did it with a quarterback who could run but couldn’t throw. We did it with an offense that sputtered while the defense became the strength.

Before the season, you tell me 11 wins, a bowl win, I take it every day of the week. We had an opportunity to do more, but even having that opportunity was amazing.

Now a new era starts and for the first time probably ever, the next coach takes over with a strong foundation, support and expectations. It’s twilight zone stuff.

I’m going to enjoy the Mullen era for as long as it lasts. If he maintains or improves upon where we are at, I’m sure he will be a short timer but I’m going to appreciate it nonetheless.

UNLV fans deserve some joy given how the pride and joy has fallen to rock bottom.

Great year, memorable year.

Robby Ashford, former Auburn and South Carolina QB. Hard pressed to see him leaving without signing. Is he QB1? Not sure...but can he be coached up by Mullen? Most likely.

Wish I could say we have a good chance here. But I do not see it.

Right now, the webpage changed and it just lists the LA Bowl.

The football program has shown both the ability to attract and pay high profile coaches to get to respectability, I think it is about time for the basketball program to begin to do the same. Quit with first time coaches and let's get someone in here who will spark some interest in the program. It's time to revive this program. It's been almost 35 years....enough is enough!!!

I am thinking that is still the PAC target. Sounds like they are hiring Michael Vick as their coach? Does he even have any coaching experience? Last year he was doing game day for the NFL.

Also, it says they have $50MM available for NIL. I wonder what period this is for? No way that is annual but they didn't provide a time period.

Odom and now Mullen and the national media...everyone mentions our facilities as a reason for being able to attract back to back good coaches now. That practice facility doesn't happen without Sanchez if what I have read here is correct? If so you can argue Sanchez is as important as any football coach we have had since you don't get Odom without the facility.

Part of that is certainly the Raiders stadium and the Rebels locker room as I have heard that mentioned a number of times as well. Whose idea was that to include separate UNLV locker rooms? Maybe that is how the Raiders and Davis wanted it?

The RebelNet community has been justifiably tough on UNLV leadership over the years. Decades of ineptitude - not only in athletics but particularly in athletics - seemingly squandered a chance for a P4 invite. Fortunately, the combo of Whitfield and Harper has completely turned around our fortunes. They haven’t wasted the value of Fertitta, Allegiant, and the gravitas of LV. Harper has managed the hiring process like a pro while Whitfield has not micro-managed athletics but let the AD do his job (despite continued meddling by regents who feel like it’s their job to be involved in every detail of the institution). Kudos to KW & Harp. They’ve done what we’ve begged to happen for years. Perhaps it’s time to turn the page on the past narrative when it comes to the current leadership and give them they’re due.

It appears that UNLV has become a little smarter in the fact that they have already opened up season ticket sales for new season ticket holders, while last year I believe they held of to fairly late before allowing new season ticket holders to purchase tickets. From the look of things, I expect we will have a really nice boost in ticket sales.
