This is the way things are right now. Coaches don't need to tamper, coaches let the NIL collectives know what they're looking for and set the rates then the NIL collectives deal with agents who are working for their clients--and because they are taking 30-40% as opposed to a normal sports agents 5-20% they hustle and make things happen. And if you're not a guaranteed NFL guy, getting into a P4 school with a larger NIL contract and bigger revenue sharing then you'd be dumb not to do so. This is capitalism in action without any regulation to protect anyone--I think we'd all prefer a little more rules right now than the wild, wild, west we're getting, but until those get into place what we're going to see is that the rich will get richer and will find every loophole they can to get around any kind of repercussions. And I'm sure we're playing as much of the same hand as we can whenever we can.
I don't like this version of collegiate athletics, but it's what we've got and right now the power conferences hold all the power over the system and the regulatory bodies that are supposed to protect against unfair practices. I'm not mad at Odom, or Correa, or anyone else. This is what's being served, so season it with your tears and take a big bite or walk away from the table.
I think the kids used to say don't hate the player, hate the game.
