OT: OFF TOPIC OT Biden’s uncontrolled pen

It’s not just him. All the Democrats have an agenda they would use the constitution as TP for.

This will affect everything and everyone.

Executive orders for gun control. Rumors are flying around about feds entering homes without a warrant. Immigration is the second big issue to me. There is already dictatorship in place about the mask mandate.

Look I have no problem if the current laws are followed. Ie the constitution) being followed but apparently that is not the number one priority...

Calm down, everyone from right to left just throw crap out, guns arent going away, the border is issue. End this thread now

Hell no, keep it open. Everybody can have a civil discussion about politics.

I’ll admit, I used to be a hardcore Republican...

but guess what, the democrats are more for the people.

Republicans don’t care except keeping their own money.

Big Government is the way to go. Tax me to death.

Its cheaper to have socialized healthcare than private insurance..

and Democracy Dollars..imagine 2000 in your pocket every month.

if we socialize the oil companies. The oil will pay for itself.

think about the future, we’ll all be driving electric cars..that’s all Democrats.

the green deal is the way to go. Think future oriented..

nobody needs an AR 15 or an AK 47 to protect your home.

keep handguns and shotguns.

Any way you look at it, politics become part of UNLV athletics, and is a large reason why so many people have walked away from supporting UNLV athletics.

there is a lot to analyze in this post scrub.

one of the big things I’d like to see moving forward is corporate accountability. This ties in to a lot of subjects. Notably taxes, and another topic you brought up, sustainability. We are constantly bombarded with ways to reduce our carbon footprint, but me reducing my showers by two minutes and turning off the lights when I leave a room have a minimal impact. It’s the corporate polluters that need to reduce carbon emissions to make an actual difference in the pace at which the earth warms. Why do you think there is such a big push back against science in this regard? I mean, how would turning to more sustainable energy options really effect the average person? It wouldn’t. But damn they get pissed about it huh? Look at Texas. They tried to blame the outages on wind turbines, that only produce somewhere between 8-20% of the states total power. Actively trying to demonize sustainability for the big money coal burners. Not to mention their grid in general, but this is Texas.
In terms of healthcare, a healthy population is good for the economy. A poor, sick and dying population is bad for the economy. Take your pick, I suppose.
2000$ a month during this period has been proven to be effective by our much more socially conscious neighbors to the north.
People are terrified of socialism like they are going to end up in miles long bread lines and have to wear very unflattering uniforms etc. but look at Scandinavian economic models as an example of what could actually be. Imagine if your tax dollars went towards ensuring you were able to get an education and the care needed if you became injured or ill? As opposed to drone bombing a bunch of elementary school kids across southwest asia.
Republican ideals are hanging on by the shortest thread as the older generation begins to fade more quickly and the younger generation becomes more focused on their future. Republicans have two talking points. Abortion and guns. They’ll never ban abortion because if they did, poof there goes one of their talking points. It just won’t happen. And no one is planning to send the feds in to confiscate guns. Even the Russian funded NRA has said as much. It’s just a scare tactic. We know realistically the agenda is to make accessing firearms more difficult. Not take them away. It’s harder to get a damn drivers license than it is to get a gun.
But what do I know, I’m 100k in debt from losing my job while studying for an undergrad in the middle of the previous economic crash, I lost my health insurance when my work had to shut down during the pandemic and all of my tax money went to bombing some school kids in southwest Asia and 365 golfing trips to the country club of the working class people.
Don’t call me a democrat. I’m a socialist and I’ve always worn it proudly.

I love Beto’s passion and his for the people politics. He was my first choice last round, but this particular message was never going to win him the White House. We as a country are so invested in our gun rights that attempting to actually confiscate weapons will lead to the next OKC or worse.
Beto’s solution is a simple one. The problem is, there isn’t actually a simple solution. There are a number of factors involved with incidents like this. It’s not just guns guns guns. Investment in health care, and stronger regulation over the sale of firearms are the big ones.
I think we may have just gone too far and there is no looking back at this point. So any measures that work towards lessening gun violence are welcome. I’d like to be an optimist and think that most people would agree we have a serious problem here that needs to be worked on. But I’m not and this is only going to create further tension and division.
So it comes down to what is more important. A persons gun rights or a persons inherent right to live without being killed by an unhinged gun owner?

As proven, freedom is only a generation away from being long gone. The decision is not just mine. I’d rather have freedom than anything else life has to offer. Even free handouts.

Brian saying he is 100K in debt while studying for an undergrad degree says everything we need to know about him. Anyone that would go 100K in debt for a useless degree (the fact you couldn't pay off your debt in a decade says a lot about the value of your degree) says everything about them when you can stay in state and get an undergrad degree for under 30K for all four years in a field that can pay for itself. I am also betting that you do not work for yourself and instead live off the backs of other hard working people?

I'm impressed with how confident you are in your ignorance with this post. While you may be somewhat correct in staying in state to get an undergrad degree for 30k, and it may be 30k now for class credits ALONE. Start to add up those fees; lab fee, books, parking, amenities, etc... and it's well beyond that. None of these are optional, all are mandatory. I know from experience as I graduated from UNLV in 2013 (that fancy gym didn't pay for itself, students did). I was lucky enough to hold down a flexible job and work my way through during that tough economic time, that wasn't the norm and instead of it taking me 4 years, it took me 7. Most of my classmates would be faced with the decision of leaving a job (which wouldn't be waiting for them if they did) vs. continuing with their education because an employer wouldn't allow them to take that 1:15pm-2:30pm Mechanics of Materials class that was only offered once ever other semester. So what are you left with at that point? Financing not only your education, but your living expenses along the way. Add on that nice interest rate, national average of nearly 6%, and it can take an enormous amount of time pay off even a $40,000 dollar loan.

Don't be so quick to beat up on someone and commit to making generalities about their lives when your lens is a message board and a few ill informed opinions.

Maybe, but my engineering son was 150000 in debt at Alabama in four years. Now of course, he is working and making 110000 a year plus bonuses. If you are out of state student, living and eating 20000 a year in debt is what it is. Then of course student fees, class fees, books, transportation. It all adds up in a hurry.

I like your fictional account of my life. You max federal undergrad loans at 58k. I never took a private loan. So why would I owe 100k? I’m betting you’re smart enough to figure that out. But I have been wrong before.
For some of us, it was incredibly hard to find work, especially when you had a specific schedule of availability, and others did not. You might remember that a lot of people lost everything during this time. I sold nearly everything I owned to survive during that time and be able to continue my education.
Now by working for myself do you mean, being my own boss, or just having a job? No, I am not my own boss. And no, I am not one of your fictional welfare queens. I bartend because it is more lucrative than entry level work in urban planning, which is what my degree is in, obtained on in state tuition from Portland state university.

okay my turn, you sound like one of those better than everyone else boomers who went to college when it cost 10$, houses were buy one get one free and wages were much closer to cost of living.

Thanks for that response. I don’t trust anyone who wants to claim that what we did was so easy. There is no generalizing life experiences, even for something as plain as college. And those that think they know it all, like in this case, likely had a significant helping hand along the way. Which they would never admit to. Bootstraps or something stupid like that. Meanwhile I can proudly claim that I had no outside housing or financial assistance beyond student loans. Couldn’t afford those bootstraps though. Would’ve had to eat them anyway....

This country is doomed. When the news media is so crooked that no one looks at all the crap hardly anyone be for in a so called covid relief bill. We all ended up paying the debt of irresponsible states. We gave huge money to organization that have zero to do with covid.

And some of this thread was about college debt. The terms were well explained when the loans were taken out. Paying off everybodys loans is a slap in the face to all who saved for years to pay for their kids college.

Republicans are not much better, Trump left the money spigot open full blast for years also.

Our money is just paper, our only savior has been most of the european countries are as bad as we are.

I do believe most people in america would make decent decisions if they knew what was going on. But when our news media is pumping up socialism and hide everything, few know they are being robbed.

You know what, I work at fedex ground pulling boxes out of trailers for 13.90 cents per hour 4 hours a dayMy coworker did the math and he said that’s 8 cents for every 3 boxes I pull.

They are hella easy to work for BUT, I could go full time but I would go nuts.

Im gonna agree with you about the doomed part but you lose me entirely after that. Every year our tax dollars subsidize poor states, not all irresponsibility is dressed in blue.

Huge money to organizations that have nothing to do with covid. Joel osteen mega church=4.4 million. Multiple millions to trump and kushner businesses (we don’t need any oversight...) not to mention the pop up medical supply companies that did things like box up unsanitized soda bottles as testing supplies.

Crooked media-incoming Fox News billion dollar lawsuit from dominion.

paying off everyone’s loans is a slap in the face blah blah-look man I don’t care how much people saved, the point is they had the ability to do such. My dad started saving money for me when I was a child, my mother left and drained that account as well as forgot to mention she hadn’t paid the mortgage in months. This is rewarding the haves and telling the have nots you should have been born differently. Like the entirety of the last presidential administration, born in to wealth, never worked a day and failed all the way to the top. But whatever, this is a gripe I laugh in people’s faces about. I guess I should have just stuck to poverty wages and being consistently demeaned by those who don’t think I am worthy of a living wage.

so please tell me all of the things I’ve been missing out on? Tell me what’s really going on? It’s not....it’s not the deep state is it? Please don’t let it be the deep state.

You comments just showed that what I said was true. If you are going to pay out of state tuition, that is on you, if you can't afford to pay off your college debt, that shows your ignorance in the degree that you paid for while attending college. Funny how I had no issue working a full time job all the way through school, and a second job during the summer to pay for my tuition in full, but I guess that is below you? You also had the option of going into the military (national guard) to pay for college, which is the option my son took to pay for his entire tuition, but I am also guessing that was below you? You seem to be really good about crying about being stuck in poverty while expecting others to pay off your debts? Maybe if you got off your ass and paid your own way, you wouldn't have been so far in debt?

As for a degree in urban planning, who can you work for with that degree outside of a government job? I am involved in land development, project planning and engineering, and as of yet have never run into an urban planning job in the private industry, so no surprise that you can't find a job in that field.

As for your attempt to put me into an age category, it doesn't change the facts that you went heavily into debt while both of my son's don't owe a penny in college due to their taking responsibility for themselves instead of blaming others!

Undergraduate Tuition
University of Nevada Las Vegas tuition is $7,454 per year for in-state residents. This is 1% more expensive than the national average public four year tuition of $7,357. The cost is 23% cheaper than the average Nevada tuition of $9,682 for 4 year colleges. Tuition ranks 7th in Nevada amongst 4 year colleges for affordability and is the 5th most expensive 4 year college in the state. If attending from out-of-state, the tuition is $22,505 which represents a 202% premium.

The school charges an additional fees of $837 in addition to tuition bringing the total effective in-state tuition to $8,291.

i paid the same way at alma mater. no loans. no grants etc... i cant for the life of me understand how people cant do dollats and sense math whe picking a degree that will have roi.

if you dont want min wage you have to offer a skill set that can command more. that only comes from a useful degree or entering a trade that provides you a similar sort of value. plenty of options outside of useless 4 year degrees that cost 40k a year to get. going to go is foolish if you dont meausre roi.

Reply to Deep State comments. It is worse than the deep state. Clear path of state sactioned(as judges will not follow the law) intimidation through the press and part of society. How else can you explain cancel culture overwhelming benefitting mainly one side? How can you explain organizations technology hosting being taken away from them? How can you explain violent rioters this summer getting slaps on the wrist while non-violent Jan 6 protesters have lost jobs and threatened with jail time? We are getting closer to being like China each day.

I've been around a long time and I can't see how this political division ends. I used to be able to talk politics with my neighbors during the week and barbecue with them on the weekend. Not any more. I don't talk politics outside of family. It's gone from people agreeing to disagree to labeling people as evil and trying to destroy their lives. IMO, most of it comes from the ability to disrespect people's opinions on social media and not facing any consequences for it. Mike Tyson had a great quote about this:
“Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.” ( Word Boxing News)

100%!

I’m intentionally ignorant to “politics” since it’s nothing more than today’s daytime dramas. People are more emphatic about their political party than the Crips and Bloods are about defending their turf. Not to mention that the “news” lies, no matter what side you watch.

For those reasons, I’d rather be ignorant and happy than “informed” and constantly angry.

It’s all stupid man. Morons galore at both ends. Pretty much regular Joe’s between those extremes. But they’ve got everyone fighting over stupid shit.
