Where there’s smoke?

8. The Pac-12’s lawsuit against the Mountain West over the poaching penalty moves forward after a key March 25 hearing in the Northern District of California.

Eventually, the process concludes with a negotiated settlement — university presidents loathe court trials — that results in a significant reduction from the $55 million owed to the Mountain West under the terms of the scheduling agreement.

The development prompts UNLV and Air Force to reconsider their futures, with the Rebels jumping to the Pac-12 and the Falcons to the AAC.

Rumors of PAC overtures to UNLV would make sense in this context. If the article is accurate then the time is right for the PAC to extend an olive branch to UNLV with a sweetened deal and for UNLV to look at its options before risking an adverse judicial decision. That’s the whole point of litigation… force one side or another (or both) into a position where they’re more likely to settle.

They need us as badly, if not more, than we need them. I would negotiate them paying our departure fees or if we depart to a P4 conference then our fees are GREATLY reduced. Doesn't make sense to pay two different departure fees.

Ah, the trusty SD Union who rightfully have 0 rooting interest in negotiated penalties or adding UNLV to their woeful conference.... Another Pac 12 fan fiction that everything just goes perfectly their way and no one has to pay what they agreed to. And Especially SDSU.. they should be hammered with fees after their little stunt in 2023 where they tried to jump ship to the Pac only for the Pac to disappear and then came groveling back to the MWC. We should've made them pay then and certainly they should be paying now.

All of this conference realignment BS is frustrating because if youre on the Pac 12 side of which conference you should be in, you think the courts will magically make the fees owed disappear. and if you're on the MWC side, you point to the contract and then all the money coming UNLVs way. Our Athletic department made a decision for the near future. Theyre not changing that because they have taken a hard line on that stance including facilitating the MWC moving its HQ into las Vegas. Pac 12 wants us so badly that they keep pushing all this narrative as if itll make it true. the Pac 12 needs UNLV, we make their media deal far superior even if we only have2 years of successful football and basketball sucks. They f'd the whole thing up by not including us in the first place and now theyre trying desperately to narrate their way to what they want.

Off soap box...
