Not according to the Idaho news paper who compared Boise States TV audience for rated televised games to the rest of the MWC for 2023. Boise came in no. 3. No. 1 was?

I know. I laugh my ass of because they are using viewership numbers from when UNLV sucked and could never get on TV, and when they did it was on a streaming service. They have ignored the last 2 years. Why do they think UNLV has 11 of 12 games on national TV this season, is it because nobody wants to watch? Not according to the Idaho news paper who compared Boise States TV audience for rated televised games to the rest of the MWC for 2023. Something fishy happenedMakes me wonder what the PAC was looking at in their "Metrics". You would think that information would be important in making decisions especially when media revenue is of high importance if not the highest importance.
What if I took out Boise's Bowl Games and OOC schedule of Washington, Memphis, and UCF? Looking at the smaller OOC game, do you think Bryant draws more eyes than North Dakota?I would be careful with these metrics. Our numbers definitely were boosted by Michigan, Kansas and Vanderbilt. The numbers don’t look so exciting when you remove bowl and out of conference.
Yes but this is true of the other MWC schools as well. Our title game vs BSU drew over 1M.I would be careful with these metrics. Our numbers definitely were boosted by Michigan, Kansas and Vanderbilt. The numbers don’t look so exciting when you remove bowl and out of conference.
It is sad. Was last season, season #1 in Snapdragon?![]()
MW football attendance analysis: Biggest risers and fallers year-over-year
College football games hosted by Mountain West schools drew their largest average home crowds since 2017, albeit with a caveat. This year's non-Hawaii games dnevadasportsnet.com
6th in the league when you tied for first isn't great. Even terrible ass SDSU drew more fans last year.
100% It's not just being good, its about being cool and trendy. It is sad. Was last season, season #1 in Snapdragon?
Regardless, we should pull more than the Aztecs.
I've lived here my entire life and I still disagree with the term "We will support a winner." Not true. People of Las Vegas will support a team that gives them clout in the community. 85% of Golden Knights fans drive Range Rovers and have their nannies pick up their kids from private school. Even in seasons where the Knights are good but not Stanley Cup contenders the talk of the town decreases. The flags aren't as flown nearly as proudly. Hockey fans talk hockey but Golden Knights fans are zzzzzz...
It will take a huge momentum switch for Las Vegas residents to see UNLV sports attendance as something to go on their IG reels. Free glass of wine and allowing dogs to be brought in purses smaller than 9" x 11" would be a good start.
Yeah except SDSU has been at least respectable for the last few decades vs us as one of the worst D1 football programs in NCAA history over the last few decades. You won't change that with one good season. Another good year this year and then yeah next year I would expect another leap. Attendance was up 12% that is a very respectable increase. Go up another 12% this year and that puts us at 3rd in the conference. Season ticket sales were up more than 1K alone so that by itself moves us to 4th. WSU was 28K so we aren't that far off from them.![]()

The fact we started the year with less than 18k actually paid attendance following last year sucks. Especially after a big road win with a lot of buzz nationally.Yeah except SDSU has been at least respectable for the last few decades vs us as one of the worst D1 football programs in NCAA history over the last few decades. Is that what Utah Tech was vs what they announced 25K or whatever? We'll see this week I can see not seeing Utah Tech but this game should be at the actual announced number. The fact we started the year with less than 18k actually paid attendance following last year sucks. Yes it was announced at 24.5k, but they gave out 7200 free student tickets, and from the reports it seemed like a lot of the paid people didn't show.Is that what Utah Tech was vs what they announced 25K or whatever? From looking at the UNLV tickets site, it looks pretty good in terms of the number of seats sold. I'd guess that there are around 1500-2000 seats remaining in the lower bowl. I could be off on that, but if all of those people show, the lower bowl will be almost full. Hopefully, as it gets closer, we get a bunch of students and other locals that pick up tickets, and they have to open some upper level sections as well.Yes it was announced at 24.5k, but they gave out 7200 free student tickets, and from the reports it seemed like a lot of the paid people didn't show.
I m not disagreeing with you; I m just saying be careful of the metrics. What if I took out Boise's Bowl Games and OOC schedule of Washington, Memphis, and UCF? Looking at the smaller OOC game, do you think Bryant draws more eyes than North Dakota?
This is essentially the same statistical argument that 'Charles Williams is a below average RB if you remove all of his long touchdown runs'. Sure, but aren't those statistical 'outliers' part of the the sample size when you're calculating things like total yards and yards per carry? The Michigan game is doing some heavy lifting in our numbers, but that's what you should get by scheduling a top 5 team on the road, but how much lifting is that game in Seattle doing?
Team | Games | Avg Viewers (Millions) | w/o Colorado |
---|---|---|---|
Colorado State | 2 | 4.886 | 0.471 |
UNLV | 3 | 1.148 | N/A |
Team | Games | Avg Viewers (Millions) | w/o Colorado |
---|
Oregon State | 9 | 2.318 | 2.261 |
Washington State | 6 | 2.158 | 2.445 |
Averaging 2.2 mil between the 2 of them. Sure playing Oregon and USC, and to a lesser extent UCLA Utah juices those numbers, but still it is impressive. Our Kansas game was reported somewhere bewtween 800K to 1.2 mil, and that was good for us.I m not disagreeing with you; I m just saying be careful of the metrics.
Lets take CSU for example. Someone could write that CSU had more viewership than USC (3.7m across 9 games) and had 4x the viewership in 2023 over UNLV (1.148m)
2023 MWC
Team Games Avg Viewers (Millions) w/o Colorado Colorado State 2 4.886 0.471
UNLV 3 1.148 N/A
The average viewership for CSU when broken down just tells me Deion generates viewership. That has nothing to do with Norvell or CSU. Without the Colorado numbers, CSU is just above New Mexico in viewership.
Now lets apply the same metrics in 2023 with OSU and WSU.
2023 Pac-12
Team Games Avg Viewers (Millions) w/o Colorado
Oregon State 9 2.318 2.261 Washington State 6 2.158 2.445
Without Colorado, those numbers shift; but its not nearly as drastic as with CSU w/without Colorado.
I’m sure if you average out UNLV without Michigan; they’re still in the top quarter of the Mountain west, but numbers need to be taken with context. We aren’t a national brand yet. I hope we can punch out the year and become one.

Yeah, they are definitely a higher tier in terms of viewers. I won't argue at all that UNLV's history is remotely close to the viewership of the PAC schools.Averaging 2.2 mil between the 2 of them. I think that WAZZU and OSU is worth about 20 mil per year for their annual revenue. They aren't worth 30, which is what the PAC 12 defectors are getting with the BIg 12, and definitely not worth to 50+ the Big 10 defectors are getting.
But to think that they aren't worth significantly more than all of the current MW at the very least most is foolish.
Can that continue without the rest of the old PAC, well no. But they have strong fan bases and are worth more than most are giving credit for.
I DO believe the numbers OSU and WSU are obtainable. Getting into even the ACC or AAC, by proxy increase viewership. Dcut is right, a lot of the numbers OSU and WSU count on are opponents tuning in. Media deal writers underestimate Las Vegas’s place in the media space. LSU and USC overtaking the superbowl crowd numbers prove that there is big enough of an appetite for college football.Yeah, they are definitely a higher tier in terms of viewers. I won't argue at all that UNLV's history is remotely close to the viewership of the PAC schools.
However, it's difficult to compare a school like UNLV historically. On one hand, yes, we have sucked. On the other hand, it's not like many of our games have been broadcast on national channels at times where they would get a lot of viewers. I can't remember what channel is was, but I feel like I used to watch the UNLV football games on channel 12 or something like that, even just a few years ago. Maybe we'd get lucky and it would be on the MW network, but how many people actually have that channel?
I think the old UNLV basketball program shows what this university could be. Back in the 80's and 90's, UNLV was a household name across the country. And when it was popping, Vegas followed it big, as well as the rest of the country. The T&M was packed every game and had celebrities sitting courtside.
That's a glimpse of what UNLV could be, if they had the right resources, and the right people in charge. It seems like we're trending in the right direction (for football), but hoops needs a major rejuvenation.
Hopefully, the university makes the right decision on this current round of expansion, and they pour gas on the fire! If not, things could spiral downward in the next few years.
Have a Time Machine back to 1985 with a bag and rope for Maxson?I wish we could get into the big12. Even though we would buried at the bottom half of the conference; we might have to open up the top bowl to get more seats.
Their parole office is going to be busy. The Fresno fans claim they are bringing 10K to this game. That is a lot people if that is true.
Look under both the single game and season tickets, and there appear to be a lot more tickets available when both added together. So far ticket sales are about the same as the Utah Tech game, but hopefully that changes when student tickets added, as well as sales in next 4-5 days. From looking at the UNLV tickets site, it looks pretty good in terms of the number of seats sold. If they brought anywhere near those numbers, then the bottom section would already been sold out, and it isn't really that close to being sold out.The Fresno fans claim they are bringing 10K to this game. That is a lot people if that is true.
Maybe they plan on saving a few bucks and trying to jump the gate? I’ve argued with quite a few of their fans on the internet. Half of them still think we’re at Sam Boyd.If they brought anywhere near those numbers, then the bottom section would already been sold out, and it isn't really that close to being sold out.
Yeah, I can't disagree with any of that--data has a small sample size but illustrates your point very well. Careful, that sort of thing will lead towards discussions!I’m sure if you average out UNLV without Michigan; they’re still in the top quarter of the Mountain west, but numbers need to be taken with context. That’s because the bunny ears on their tv sets are pointed the wrong direction.Maybe they plan on saving a few bucks and trying to jump the gate? I’ve argued with quite a few of their fans on the internet. Half of them still think we’re at Sam Boyd.
