Who Cares Thread

A little more Competitive USU 45- UNLV 20, missed field goal, 1 touchdown in the first half , 1 touchdown in the 2nd and 1 more TD in garbage time

Honestly, I still care and I will still follow/watch, but it won't hurt nearly as bad when they STB, because I'll expect it. I really didn't before UNM, but the Ark St game should've been the tip-off: a very possible win that we refused to take. We've been conditioned for this over the decades. It will take more than a quarter-season for us to be conditioned the other way.

Brother man. I still care too. Bet damn. I am so tired of this mediocrity. My curse is that I was at unlv in the few glory days. Silver fox years.

I'm used to the losses and I won't stop watching. Sometimes a bad show can still keep you entertained.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Gilliam have a stronger showing this week but USU is a tall task. The rushing attack has to find a new niche to find running room.

I CARE!!!!!

And I was completely demoralized by that game. For some unknown and irrational reason, I am still backing Tony.

The unexplained and blowout loses have stayed around which have included San Diego State, unr, Air Force, Howard, New Mexico, etc. under coach Sanchez. I do hope they flip around like they did verse Fresno State last year, but I just don't understand how the team can go up and down so much every year?

UNLV lost to a bad BYU team last year. BYU is improved this year and Utah St. crushed them at their place. This would be a huge win for the Rebels but i'm guessing USU wins 42-17.

I care it stings but I can't change my alumni status what am I going to do enroll in graduate school at Alabama at my age to follow a winner, Never!
Mind you I was born in Chicago and spent my summers in Boston following the Red Sox and Cubs was brutal but it was all the sweeter when they reached the pinnacle.
Hang in there Rebel fans!

Makes no sense We will have the best stadium in the WORLD! The city came up with 750 million plus to help fund it, yet we cant pay crap for a seasoned head coach? It would be a good investment to get a big name head coach. They would get their money back and then some by tryiing to filli up that stadium.

The city isn’t paying our coaches salary. It’s not like the stadium is built off UNLV money otherwise I’d agree with you. We are riding coattails here. And there isn’t money floating around UNLV. Yes, the town has money... the town. UNLV has to be able to fund it someway ... it hasn’t happened.

They need too. Makes no sense to get UNLV a Magnificent stadium and then let it fall flat on their face ! Over and over. They would make money 10x fold with getting that stadium to even 60% capacity. With tourism and ticket sales(not sure who gets it now). Work out a deal or whatever. Strike while the iron is hot.

I don’t know why they “need to”. The Raiders are the sell for the stadium, not UNLV. UNLV isn’t “getting” a stadium, the Raiders are, we just get to “borrow” it 5 days a year when the Raiders aren’t using it.

From a fan standpoint, hell yeah they need to. From a business standpoint; is UNLV a decent investment?

That was the only reason they got funded . Raiders tried to give UNLV the boot, but the city stood their ground .Hell they even have their own lo cker room.So yea the need to. Makes no sense not to atleast try and help. I dont mean millions a year. Just a upgrade from what we got , We start winning at atleast a somewhat high level and/or get into a power 5 conference would increase tourism significantly ( slow season)and would give Vegas more exposure.

We were a caveat to the deal. The Raiders were the driving force behind this, UNLV is just along for the ride.

They already gave. A real stadium instead of that eyesore in the east valley.

I don’t get it sometimes. UNLV wasn’t in a position; by history, by prestige, by success, by reserves. I’m not understanding how people think that UNLV “deserves more”. UNLV earned nothing, they were given.

Your loyalty, your passion, mine, the few other thousand in this town - it has no value. If loyalty and passion were driving forces, there’d be no movement from Oakland, from Cleveland, from many towns that lost a pro team. But passion doesn’t pay the bills, dollars do.

I’m just happy that we will have a great stadium to play in, I hope and suspect it will up recruiting. Now if there are some generous non-UNLV people that want to give to UNLV to make things better for UNLV, fantastic, I’m all for it. But thinking they “need to”, I don’t know, man.

Barter the money. Food, parking ,ticketS? We are on the verge of something that could put UNLV back in the spotlight. Helps tourism ,enrollment,DONATIONS and alot of free advertisment .That alone bring way more money than spent on helping getting a new coach. Which could be sooner than later.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but makes sense to me. Investments are not always 100% . It would be betting on Vegas. Not a bad bet if your betting on yourself.

Football has never been in the spotlight.

Basketball had a great run from 40 to 30 years ago. The success of UNLV is a definite outlier. Yes, it was off the charts incredible, but as time passes, in terms of years, it was a brief period and it was long ago. Some may say it was a fluke. I don’t think it was a fluke, but we are learning more and more as time passes, it was because of one person, not the school not the town.

A football program that has had, what? Four or five above .500 seasons in the past 30 years and a basketball team that has 3 paltry NCAA wins in the past 28 years? Loyola Chicago has more, George Mason has more, Reno has more.

I don’t know that it’s a “good bet”. Maybe. But there are arguments against.

In fact, investments are NEVER 100%. And by dumping a bunch of money into UNLV, you aren't betting on Vegas, you are betting on a school that has a non-traditional student base that doesn't give a crap about school tradition (or pride) and a market now saturated with many better sports options. Its actually quite a risky bet indeed.

That’s the thing, it’s a really, really “bad” bet if you look at it objectively. I mean REALLY bad, like opening a Reddy Ice distributorship on the North Pole. We want it not to be because we’d like the money but the harsh reality is that it’s not a good bet at all. It’s a blind leap of faith and you’re asking for people who have no pride or connection to make it.

It does not have to be a 20 year investment. If u dont bet atleast once in your life, you will never reap the rewards. Thats how you get PAID! BTW u put a winning program for lets say several years and thats how you build your fan base ,student tradition and turnout. Look at the small sample with Kruger a few years. Sold out the Mack 4 the first time in years. U r never going to win at a high level an be able to sustain it 4 a period of time without paying 4 it.

Its like having a million dollar house and using cheap parts and inexperience labor. Why in the hell do u have all the tools to win at a VERY high level and never even try an even get a sniff at success? This is VEGAS! Go big or go home. It would be irresponsible 4 the city to not even try and atleast give us a push. Way too much potential $$ out there not to even try!

We went home.

Here's my thinking of why the city has never really gotten behind any sports. They make a lot more money with people inside the casino's then being at a game for several hours. So why would the city invest when the bread and butter has been the casinos?

They won’t. A sense of “community” doesn’t matter to the casinos. There are no big dollar signs behind it.

I think this thought was correct when the city was smaller. But with over 2M people in the valley now, its a BIG city. Vegas is so much more than gaming now, but they don't seem to see the ROI in investing in UNLV. Other corporations outside the casino industry should have a vested interest in something like this, but for some reason that has never happened on a big scale.

Is it a fund raising problem? Is the University and city still to young? and therefore doesn't have a solid established foundation to build on?

I wish i had the answers. I moved away from Vegas a few years ago for work. I was born and raised there, graduated from UNLV and still travel 1000 miles to come to games as often as possible.

I was sitting in my season tickets watching the embarrassment that was the New Mexico game. I came into town to see family and go to the game expecting to see a competitive game. Obviously that did not happen.

I really think this is a UNLV problem though when it all boils down, the city has EMBRACED the Golden Knights, when I landed and got off the airport I counted over 50 people in Knights gear at the airport before i saw a single UNLV hat or shirt. That wouldn't have happened previously.

Maybe UNLV can hire away some of the Knights people.... haha ya right!
