Todays practice started out sloppy, but improved as the day went on. Pete mentioned early that rb starters would probably be thomas and campbell. Nothing I saw today seems to contradict that, in my mind. Thomas is a rocket, Campbell runs with authority. That being said, I can't wait until Altee can take the field. He's somethinng special.

On the qb front, it seemed like they were giving Decker the day off. Palandech, Thompson and Sneed were taking all of the snaps. I can't say that there is a clear #2 yet. They all have such different styles. Palandech is a run first guy who is flighty. Thompson is a mobile pocket passer. Its too early to say what Sneed is, since he is still trying to figure out the offense. I do think Sneed will

Said in today's paper that they gave Decker time off so Palandech and the other guys could get more reps.

Ahh, makes sense then. The group has a lot of fight now. We might not win in terms of talent, but now we have spirit de corps and good coaching.

Wait, I'm I reading this correctly? Thomas and Campbell might be starting running backs over Whitely and Green?

Yeah, I think you will see Whitely in there as steady guy. He is reliable but lacks a bit of top end speed but is a solid blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield.

The freshman both bring skills we just didnt have on the roster. Greene is a good overall athlete who has excelled on special teams and played some safety his first 3 years. At running back he looked good last spring but his issue has been staying healthy, always seems to pick up some nagging injury. Will be a fun battle to follow the rest of camp.

I can see Thomas being used as a RB/WR as well with him motioning out of the backfield or used in the screen/ sweep game.

Not that it matters anymore, but I wish Hauck had also used Sullivan at RB in addition to WR. Even though he was a good WR I thought he could have been utilized a little more in the offense. The only time Sullivan ran the ball was on that end-around sweep play. But Sullivan never actually lined up in the backfield during his time at UNLV that I can recall.

Thomas will play in the backfield and also move out to the slot, which I think is perfect, and will best utilize his speed from multiple angles while also allowing him a few more touches and a chance to catch balls.

I don't think that there is any doubt that Lexington Thomas has separated himself from the pack at this time. He had a TD run on Wednesday morning that was absolutely beautiful. His burst through the holes is the best on the squad and once he break through the line into the secondary his speed and moves are really special. He doesn't have the power of Xzavier Campbell or Greene to move the pile but given a little bit of room he will make the most of it. Most likely Whitely will start the first game but his senior and experience status won't keep him there for long. These 2 young guys are pushing hard. In regard to Doc about Sullivan playing more as a RB, I don't think there was much opportunity for that as long as Cornett was here. Last year Hauck was running Sullivan at RB in the fall camp but as happened throughout his career he got hurt. I loved his game but he was always hurt. He could have really been a game changer for the Rebs during his time here if he just could have stayed healthy.

I agree. Hauck's backfields were set when he had guys like Cornnett and Bradley Randle. Last year was really the only year the stable was bare with the exception of Shaq, who was out half of the season. Sullivan was banged up a lot.

Next year with tennpenny will have some interesting offensive weapons. He's maybe just a step slower than thomas. Imagine boyd and keys in the one and two, thomas at the slot, and tennpenny at rb. I want to see Wily at full back. The kid can dance.

I think Thomas' speed is going to be tough to keep off the field. One thing that will keep Whitely in the mix is pass protection and understanding of the offense. I could see a scenario where all three see considerable action.

Heading out to Friday's practice.
