13 point lead. Turnovers, dumb fouls and finish regulation standing around for 12 seconds and then settling for a tough Mooring 3. Headed to OT.

This game is a microcosm for the whole season. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the game. A win would be great, but the inevitable 20+ point beat down by Reno that would follow doesn't excite me.

Yeah, giving up 90 points to AFA is pretty bad. OT, 2nd game in 2 days, Martin at full health, still playing bad defense: UNR game has all the makings to be the ugliest game of the year for us.

I think the line going into the last home embarrassment against UNR was UNR -2 or -3. Any guesses what it opens up at?

I would guess somewhere in the UNR -8 to -10.

That 20-point beat down you predicted turned into a 5-point tightly contested game. Not that you were the only one who saw another embarrassment coming. I imagine most UNLV fans were apprehensive about another Reno rout.

But our guys showed up this time. Yeah, they lost the game. But they should hold their heads high. They gave the Woof-pack all they could handle. True, we lost the game, and the season may be over. But the team went out with a bang. Let’s face it. As painful as it may be, UN-rent has a good team this season. They’re ranked, and Mussel-head has them playing in top form. We were supposed to lose.

I said the season may be over, because I believe the Rebels will get an invite to one of the lesser tourneys. If not the NIT, then perhaps the CBI. After all, they’re a 20-win team, and they’re the Runnin’ Rebels. We are always a draw. Everyone loves to come here, so they may get a home game. Of course, the team must agree to play. But I think they will play. partly because they want to keep playing, and partly because MM will want the team to experience tournament play.

We’ll see what happens…

You are completely correct and I was very happy to be wrong. They showed up, competed, but ended up being plagued by some of the same old issues down the stretch (turnovers, FTs, hero ball, etc...). That being said, I could not question the effort or heart displayed by the guys that game and I was very proud of the way we went out.

I'd have loved to see UNLV accept a bid to the CBI. I know its a cost, but it could have been very valuable for the younger guys. Apparently the issue was some combination of it cost too much money and Menzies didn't see any great value in playing, which is what it is.

I'm cautiously optimistic about next season because I do like the pieces returning and coming in. Still not sure if Menzies is the guy, but I'm definitely willing to give him a shot.
