Spring ball

I hope Mullen can work with Alex so he stays at QB.

I would like to see him get to the same level as the kid from up north who just left for Memphis or the UNM QB who is now at Utah. Add in his running ability with that speed and all he has to do is keep the opponents honest on defense!

I think the guy that left for Memphis is hot dog water. One of the worst passers Ive ever seen. Dampier at UNM is a little different; hes already a much better thrower of the ball than Orji. Regardless I hope Orji thrives here; seems like a good dude.

Memphis must love hot dogs then!
He would have been better here than either Hajj or Sluka!

I know the downside for him has always been his passing game ability at Michigan... But man, if he can figure out how to make the passing game work within his capabilities hes going to be on some lists by the end of the season. We've seen some ok QBs in the MWC, Hes just built athletically different from any QB we've seen in the MWC lately. And given Mullens QB whisperer background along with our QB coaches background developing 1st round picks from athletes built like this there are so many opportunities to have him develop into a real threat outside the gimmicks he was used for at Michigan.

You gotta find the 4-5 throws he's most comfortable with. Build offense around that. If he's the QB it will be a lot of zone read/QB power with quick screens/slants and shots downfield as defense creeps up.

I think it's going to be a real interesting QB battle.

If Orji wins the job it's his. If Colandrea wins the job, I'm guessing Orji still finds a way on the field in certain situations.

Is everyone of the opinion that Orji should start? Personally I like Colandrea more and think he starts.

Not sure. Different skill sets.

If it's close in camp I think Orji gets the nod because of his ability with his legs.

If Colandrea wins the job in camp I still think Orji gets some packages in short yardage/goal line stuff. Maybe a scripted series in the game. Would really be hard to keep his athleticism off the field especially vs MWC opposition.

However it plays out, Mullen has a bit of a tightrope to walk as there is a spring portal period where dudes will bail out. Pretty sure both came here expecting to start.

I would love if Colandrea wins the job that Orji becomes early Tebow and runs packages for us.

But the reality is whoever doesn't get the nod will have a high potential of hitting the portal the summer

Sluka goes to James Madison

Whats crazy is Sluka is a better passer than Orji. Obviously Mullen is leaps and bounds above our former offensive play caller in terms of developing. Just thought it was funny.
Sluka wasnt a bad passer in his career- around 60% with a fairly decent TD/INT ration. He obviously didnt have a good start at UNLV..

I think both can be good QBs. Orji just has another dimension hid physical size and skills add that MWC QBs don't have. There's a reason Dan brought him in after signing Colandrea first

Obviously, Michigan didn't air it out with him. He did have a couple of good throws 10-15 yards, or so, down the field in the first video. Does he have the ability to throw it deep like Colandrea does?

Last season he passed for a total of 150 yards on 25/47 (53.2% completion percentage). 6-yard average per completion. 3 TD's, 2 interceptions.
