Josh Rosen vs Dalton Sneed
I thought it would be interesting to compare these two young QB's. Both were born on February 10, 1997. Rosen is the starting freshman QB for UCLA and Sneed is a redshhirted freshman for UNLV. Obviously, with Rosen playing and redshirted Sneed not playing we can't compare college stats but we can get a good look at these guys through their high school stats.

Both played 4 years of varsity level football at their schools 2011 – 2014. Rosen played 4 years for St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, CA. Sneed played 4 years for Horizon High School in Scottsdale, AZ. All the statistical data was gathered from their respective high school varsity football records.

Overall their stats seem to be fairly even but one thing stands out. Sneed gained 300+ more total yardage in spite of playing 9 fewer games. Not being 6'3”, 220 lbs (+ or -) it looks like Sneed flew under the radar screens of the larger D-1 schools. Bad for them but great for UNLV.

Hauck and Sanchez appear to have stolen a very good QB. But, as it is with most things in life, the proof is in the pudding and only time will tell. Below is a chart of their stats.

Its an interesting topic. High School stats are really tough to get a completely accurate picture with.

Things like offensive system, level of competition, talent level surrounding a certain player, all factor in.

Sneed may be hard pressed to see the field at UNLV. With Stanton signing and Armani Rogers a real possibility.

Not knocking the kid, I think he has talent, just not sure how it will all shake out in the end.

Rosen played in the Trinity League which is the toughest high school league in the country. You really can't compare high school stats without accounting for the level of competition.

In fairness, I just watched Dalton's HUDL video. He's a nice player, but Josh is 6'5" or so with a cannon for a arm. If you watch the video, you'll notice the difference in arm strength. Rosen rifles the long pass whereas Sneed loops most of them. Dalton is very mobile, but his competition level shows - he is usually pulling away from the defenders, yet only runs a 4.63 40. That time is decent for a QB, but he shouldn't be the fastest guy on the field. At Bosco, Rosen didn't need to run. His halfback was Sean McGrew who runs a 10.5 100 and is headed to UW.

I'm not minimizing the young man, but high school stats are not a good comparison between players. There's a significant difference in competition. The Trinity League's six teams will put 20-30 players into D-1 annually, if not more. Just one old man's opinion...thanks for letting me share.
