It takes time and effort to locate and recruit the kind and mix of players to your program you want. CMM is putting in the work, putting in the effort and I feel confident that we will be starting to see much progress in the near future.

Much like the NBA, the top tier collegiate programs do a great job at examining who will be able to translate to the next level. We were always getting the leftovers with CDR. CMM isn’t chasing stars, he is building relationships with kids before they are 5 star rated.

Go Rebels![banana]

Agree with that assessment Pistol. If we can “jell” we have a chance to be pretty good. Us as a program have been waiting. It’s time. It’s our turn. I can’t wait.

Nice post. Thanks Bro!

It has to be this way. Recruiting high school kids has to be the future. Every once in awhile getting a kid like Juiston is fine to plug holes etc.. but we absolutely need program kids that are willing to play 3 and 4 years. I know that’s hard to do now but I hope he can do it.

Getting NBA ready players helps too...dont kid yourself.

That I have to challenge -

Since 1992, which "NBA ready player" has helped lead UNLV to a Sweet 16? Or even a W in the NCAA tourney?

Great local players, who would have thought that 20 years ago when LV was starting to burst at the seams. Keeping them here is going to be difficult because of scheduling and SOS. Hopefully, this years team takes off and these great players come here.

Well, considering we’ve had next to no success the past 25+ years, I wouldn’t say non NBA ready players are helping us a ton either. They may make us feel warm and fuzzy on senior night for their four years of service, but it didn’t do much for the program on a big stage. Count our 3 wins, Kevin helped us greatly for 2 of them and he was a senior grad transfer at 22/23 years old.

So I wouldn’t say no to an NBA ready player because of the evidence when the non NBA ready players haven’t done much either. Plus NBA ready players help fill the seats and build excitement; yeah, that’s all low depth, surface stuff, no substance if it doesn’t produce. But it still can yield more than a 4 year guy.

I still like a mix of both. All high end players doesn’t work. Doesn’t even work consistently for Cal. And if he can’t do it consistently, it’s not going to be done consistently.

Fair enough...I am just a little more than jaded when I see 5-star players. I see 5-star player and I think entitlement, terrible team chemistry and another year of my life passing by without tourney success.

Agreed. 5 Stars, don’t meet expectations = anger and pitchforks.

3 Stars, don’t do anything, following and expectations are low, perform below expectations = its ok.
