Our new DC

Not what I was expecting but between the Niners and Stanford he's been involved with a lot of good defensive teams.

Not that it's a barometer of success... but his name hasn't appeared in Football Scoop at all in 2019/20. Tells me he hasn't bee in the conversation much.

2009-10 Stanford defensive assistant
2011 49ers defensive QB
2012-2019 Stanford ILB

Was under Vic Fangio at Stanford and 49ers, then Lance Anderson at Stanford.

So expect a 3-4 defense. Expect a -hopefully- aware DC who understands the flow of football.

He shouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. This gives him a chance to be a DC at the same time we shouldn't have to expect to pay him much. Win win.

Hope he works out. We are taking a chance in an area where we need the most help.

Won't be much transition since Skipper was running predominately odd man fronts.

Kind of a wait and see hire.

Potential win-win. I mean, if the defense looks abysmal, I don't think saying "well it's his first time" is a particularly good look. But I get what you mean. Definitely should be a cheaper option than what many of us were thinking or hoping. Would like to see UNLV utilize that 11-man staff. I don't think they had in the past when, in 2017/2018, they expanded the staff pool. I think that would have been when the rumor was adding Kenny Sanchez and all of that legal stuff popped up for him, it never happened. There was shuffling of the staff, but I don't think they ever added the +1. Could definitely be wrong here.

Yeah, the good news is the personnel won't be a hindrance to what he's likely gonna do. Like you said, predominately odd man fronts, but I would hope there's some continuity and more frequent use of base in Hansen time (at least the beginning) as DC.

A LOT of Stanford guys are in the Portal. 247 shows 15 names. Majority are on offense but it would be nice if Hansen brought a couple with him.
Not that I would be upset about having some Stanford level players anywhere on the field.

I haven't looked at the list, but OL coach from a smart guy school. DC from a smart guy school.

Maybe we'll be a smart guy team!

We are the Harvard of the West.

Regarding Stanford and the transfer portal. Stanford has higher requirements for student credits/semester so they have a lot of players who graduate in 3-4 years. They always graduate a high number of players prior to their "senior" year; whether that be because they graduate prior to senor season or they graduate on time and have a redshirt year in there. I wouldn't mind to land a couple of them.

Not trying to hijack the thread. But, in a DC related way... Wazzu is taking Wyoming's DC Jake Dickert for their new DC. Also taking two other Wyo. coaches.
