As of this point, Roscoe Smith has not made a decision. Nor has he
planned any other official visits. A host of schools are interested in
Smith. A few of those schools are believed to be Maryland, SMU, and
Florida State.
If the Rebels don't nab Roscoe Smith, the scholarship may be
carried over to next season. Though the Rebels are still on top for
Smith, don't discount the value of taking a midseason transfer. Had
the Rebels not had one scholarship available last season, there would be no
Khem Birch. Having an available scholarship is a rarity in college
ball and the dividends can be enormous. In a perfect world, the Rebels
would have two scholarships right now - one for Smith, one for a midseason
transfer (or carried to next year).
Good news on the academic front. All players finished the year in
good shape.
Many people were asking about summer practices. Approximately half
of the 10 days of practice from the August 4th - August 15th period before
the Canadian tour will be open for the public. The first day will be
open for the public. One of the open days will include a full
scrimmage, as well.
As for regular season practices, they will still be open to the
public, in general. Like last year, there will still be some
occasional closed practices. The number of close practices might be a
bit more than last season.
In the strong hunch category: Don't expect to see DaQuan Cook
redshirt. Though the team will be strong up and down the roster, Cook
is a true point guard who will be needed. Without Cook's services, the
Rebels will have ample combo guards, but no true point guards.
Still unclear as to the status of Savon Goodman.
