More or less. Though technically he comes from Arizona, where he was hired in December and not retained by Sumlin after all the Rich Rod stuff went down.
Also like that he was a successful head coach at Concord, and also has several areas of experience at Florida State and West Virginia. Should be good!
Of course it's better than a lateral move for John. It's a ton more money for John and a good addition to his resume.
For Garvin Justice it's a tough deal. He was about to get $385 K at Zona. Then Rich Rod got fired and the contract for Justice went down the toilet. Now he'll likely get around what John was being paid which is about $100 K less. It's still better than the $100 K that he was getting from FAU.
For UNLV, it's not a lateral fill in at the spot. It's a bit of a step down in coaching and recruiting but it's not nearly as bad as it could have been. Barney has made John and others into great coaches. He'll do it with Garvin too. No doubt in my mind if Garvin is up to the challenge.
Has the staff been filled out yet? Is it 10 coaches or HC + 10? Going to the official site helps nothing. Doesn't look like there is an additional coach, and there's only one GA. Hell, they still have Garrison on there and not Justice. They need to get someone competent in charge of the official site.
Mark Anderson has reported that Eric Brown Idaho's Linebackers coach will be UNLV's 10th assistant coach. Said the it will be announced when the hire is official.
Rebelious1, Wasn’t Baker a phenom?? Had it all and I hated to see him move along but Batts worked out very well for us. Oh, those were the days....not too many people on here go that far back...
