Rick Pitino had the offer and it was a big one. Full control - high salary - guarantees for future of UNLV athletics were drastically changing.
So what happened?
Was going to wait for another time to report this but was told this past week the following............
Rick Pitino wants to live in Las Vegas and be part of the UNLV program. If he leaves Louisville this is the only place he would go. He decided against leaving and now he knows he likely missed the last opportunity to coach UNLV.
Was told that Pitino was torn that he would be a failure if he left Louisville under those circumstances. The offer came a while ago and following the season he would made the decision. And after talking it over with this entire family he decided that he couldn't leave UL with what happened. It would eat at him forever and chose to coach and bring some happy times back to Louisville. He will retire soon from UL and likely never coach again. But as long as he leaves UL on great terms he will retire happy. And likely never get a chance to coach the program he really wanted to run. The Runnin' Rebels!
