Genuinely curious what people think.

On one hand, we would be hurting ourselves when it comes to media negotiations and lose a of potential money.

On the other hand, now the MW will struggle to pay what they promised AF and UNLV to stay.

Do we do what they did and decide to be picky about who we take back or do we take the whole bus?

Do we still try to expand?

I’d take them back since it would benefit us long-term.

Is the money coming from the Pac2 no matter what now? The wording of the contract matters.

They have to agree to the new distribution model that the rest of the MW agreed to. Call it a "loyalty bonus". It can be paid by a merger with the PAC 2 as merger fees
Boise Forfeits all of their previous unequal profit sharing privileges.
UNLV keeps the P4 "free Pass".
The PAC 2 teams can keep whatever of their war chest they have left after paying our new distribution model. That can help subsidize their annual revenue hit.

Those are my terms, otherwise? Kick rocks

Reject SDSU and Boise... screw them, especially SDSU. 4th time trying to leave. Let them go play in CUSA or put extraordinarily high and strong terms for leaving again, like 100 million dollar penalty something stupid like that...

What about a rolling share of media deal money?

TV ratings/viewership = higher %. It can go up or down every year based on how many eyeballs you attract.

Everybody gets set amount of X and then 'rewarded' with bonuses based on previous year TV views?

Would push schools to schedule up more in OOC.

Could that work?

No one would agree to that. ADs want consistent revenue they can accurately project budgets from... and viewership/ratings aren't accurate measurements, especially with variability as season progresses. Like preseason Kansas was a playoff contender but are now possibly playing just to get bowl eligible... let's say that game is played this next weekend instead of 2 weeks ago... TV viewership wouldn't be nearly as high...

Fair enough.

I guess what I'm getting at is, Media deals are based on what each market/school brings to the table. Schools generating more viewership should get a bigger piece of the pie though right?

I wish schools would do this and take the excess to treat as a bonus. It would suck for forecasting a budget, but random bonuses might help schools build a war chest overtime.

Yeah but reality is it would be difficult to get ADs to agree to.

It's sort of like why I do the avg monthly power bill.

Sure might pay a little more over all but I don't get hit with $350 bill in July.

I can budget with no surprises.

It would totally mess up wsu and Oregon st if we took back 2 of the 4. They would have to fill their conference with b level schools.

If we now did reverse merger we likely would not get all the money.

I'll be honest. I'd be OK with there being no fees etc no payouts and the MWC just adding WSU and OSU back in. UNLV would be in no worse shape than they are now. They are showing they can potentially be a force in the MWC. The profile of MWC remains intact if not better by merging.

I don't like the uncertainty surrounding the MWC rebuild and I'm sure the new PAC isn't crazy about the way things are turning out.

But I think that bridge has already been crossed and then burned in the wake. Not sure there is any going back.

For BSU, the Lynchpin, I would like a sloppy BJ. The rest of the schools just pay a fees and non-compete.
For the Beavers, I want that tails. For Cougs,, I had enough. just sign the papers.

Selfishly, I’d just keep the UNLV free to go to p4 clause unique to UNLV. No similar guarantees for the returning schools.

Exactly.

Extend the P4 clause to everyone.

Now it becomes everybody for themselves vs internal conspiring to break up the conference. They really could have a solid media deal with these 14 members. Could even explore adding schools like Texas State and UTEP to get into Texas Market and expand further if it made sense.

I could stomach being in a conference like that. P4 would be a long shot even if we were to continue going undefeated this year. With that arrangement, we could be in a step between the P4 and G5.

No way to extend that clause to everyone. Why would we just allow the best markets to leave in a couple years free of charge. The MW had to offer us incentives to stay. They don't need ti offer incentives to merge.
As for other things I'd realistically want to keep- MWC gives us the promised increased revenue share above everyone else. We still get a bonus paid upfront from the withdrawal fee that the Pac 2 still pay as violation of their scheduling agreement poaching rules- the cost of losing the hostile takeover... Pac 2 figure out distribution of their funds across the conference, MWC name goes away, we get a 14 million a year TV deal...

I get it. I'm just saying I'd rather just have conference re-form add OSU WSU call it whatever and be done. To me at least that's the best possible outcome. Conference remains strong. Media deal will likely be a little better. No question marks about who is or isn't going to join.

I prefer solidity over uncertainty.

I am guessing NIU and Toledo go to PAC since that is likely more revenue than MWC. At least FCS is out of the question.

One of the worst parts of committing to the MW last week, at least initially for me, was committing to a conference that has extreme exit fees. Learning that we had that P4 free pass made things significantly different.
Merging at this point has 2 draw backs. 1. Not getting that bonus money, which could still happen with poaching fees, but maybe not. We need that cash to extend Odom. The buyout isn't good enough to keep this thing going right now.
Again merger seems very far fetched right now, but yes. It would be a better per team payout for the MW schools, not for the PAC schools. It will be the best G5 conference easy, which is good.
But if we lose the P4 free pass, eff that. If we are at 17-18 mill for two years now? What happens with the next contract? 12 mil or more for every contract year? 60 mil if the Big 12 comes calling in 2 years?
Eff that. Those exit fees are reason enough to separate from the conference.
Again we will see what they actually end up being, but still. We aren't the freaking ACC, but our exit fees are, perhaps worse.

The cost for the other schools to merge with us is that we get to keep the free pass to the P4.

Sure that is easy for us to say, but I'm sure that the other 13 teams wouldn't want that detail to kill a deal.

Exactly.. Why give us the easy out when at least 6 of them value themselves much higher than us... I think there are too many egos at this point to undo the mess that was created. At least 5 of the ADs would look really bad at their jobs (WSU, OSU, SDSU, Boise, and USU). They still might if the deals come in and staying in the MWC comes back as being within the ballpark of the Pac brands deal...
