Big time rebellious. One person whimpers, they change things.Thank god we are still the Rebels - mascotless, but as rebellious as ever👍🙂
Show us your vagina, Professor LenzThank god we are still the Rebels - mascotless, but as rebellious as ever👍🙂
It's not just us. The entire society is losing it's collective mind. I used to think I was a dinosaur, but I'm beyond that. I'm a fossil and the world has passed by me at light speed. The last couple of years is why I no longer donate to UNLV
They are totally unrelated... Why even post that? The name Rebels is staying. Hey Reb is gone. Save some of your outrage for the 400,000, and counting, Americans who died during the pandemic.
Explained it to you, but you are set in your ways because you bow to an ideology/circumstance rather than real science and common sense - which, since your discipline is science, would be surprising if so many other scientists hadn’t sold out for the same thing as you.The name Rebels is staying. Hey Reb is gone. Save some of your outrage for the 400,000, and counting, Americans who died during the pandemic.
I can name 100’s by simple chart review. End stage renal failure, terminal pancreatic cancer ... sorry, irreversible mortal conditions ... those aren’t covid deaths. But they count as covid deaths.Considering I know at least a dozen people with family members who died of things not related to chinese virus, but still were listed as chinese virus deaths, that says everything!

Like I said, in reviewing patient charts ... it’s laughable. Particularly with many end stage renal failures and incurable cancers, people that checked into the hospital for end of life care, certainly not covid. If you honestly think 400,000 people have died from covid, then there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to talk to you about......real cheap.

How about that 2009 pandemic with 550000 H1N1 deaths?
See how easy it is?
Not saying it’s not real. I’m saying the reaction was incredibly poor, nowhere near as bad as the disease itself. Kids are killing themselves.Truth is, like all things, is somewhere in the middle.
Saying it is no worse than the flu, or even H1N1 is also false.
Those diseases did not ransack New York and most of western Europe. Those diseases do not overload hospitals whenever there is a holiday where everyone comes together. You cannot deny the impact this thing has had.
You said yourself that most of tests are crap. A lot of false positives. Those false positives also skew the death rate lower.
Conversely the death rate is padded by co-morbidities that are likely the true cause of death. Even with unconfirmed positives. Also it is worth mentioning that the majority of people that legitimately seemed to have contracted the disease get out with mild symptoms.
the numbers are heavily flawed from all kinds of angles.
You also cannot compare COVID to some of these other diseases since everything is different. We didn't lock down for the others. The majority of us were not wearing masks, trying to socially distance, etc.
If you are a scientist you have to look at all of the variables, and there is too much difference to look at raw data and make meaning comparisons.
Personally I do not know what we should be able to do. In many ways I do think we have shut down a little too much, but on the other side this thing keeps having these blow ups and should not be unopposed. There is no right answer. But it is difficult to find the best answer.
Asymptomatic spread - was bullshit. Fauci knew it was bullshit and admitted it was bullshit early on. Without the suggestion that asymptomatics spread, THERE IS NO PANIC. Asymptomatic spread was absolutely necessary to drive fear into the heart of people. So they used it, abused it, and shoved it down our throats ... and they knew it wasn’t a true statement. Like I said, no asymptomatic spread theory, no shutdowns, no panic, just knowledge and asking people to be careful (see 57 and 68 or 58/69).Not saying it’s not real. I’m saying the reaction was incredibly poor, nowhere near as bad as the disease itself. Kids are killing themselves.
The tests are crap in the way their utilized, not by way of methodology. PCR is fine. A hammer is fine too, but you don’t use a hammer crack an egg.
I’ve looked at as much data as humanely possible. It’s non stop. Tons of variables, no doubt, but through the dust there are trends and likelihoods and it’s very easy to see the massive misinformation being pumped out to keep people afraid. It’s really easy.
I also read about the LV valley overload and ICU overload. Complete and utter bullshit. I only need to walk 10 feet to see it with my own two eyes.
when so much bullshit is pumped, you tend to look funny at everything they put out and it’s easy to spot the bullshit. There’s a definite agenda.
science should never be about agendas. This thing is. Completely.
Not saying this virus isn’t real, and I’ve stated before, this is much much closer to 58 and 69 than 1919. Not even close. Yet in 58 and 69, we didn’t shut down shit and got through it just fine. We artificially and intentionally induced panic (got any TP?).
Exactly. The foundation of their house of cards had multiple elements, but asymptomatic spread was the primary driver of fear. Of course they knew that. Because it makes it a zombie apocalypse - when you see chinese walking and then falling over dead in the street and then tossed into a freezer. That’s what asymptomatic does. And they knew, as authorities, the public would take it in. Even though, if you remember early on ... Fauci flat out said something to the effect that “with respiratory viruses, asymptomatics have never been the driver” ... of course, weeks later, he back tracked, like he did with his original masks aren’t needed/masks will save the planet flip flop. As if ... the script needed new elements, new factors ... and those can be flipped again to make things better."Asymptomatic spread - was bullshit."
Without the asymptomatic spread concept you can open schools with a person at the door checking everyone with an instant read thermometer. Same for restaurants and businesses. Same for casinos. Same for airlines. etc. etc.
The entire response changes. We would have responded like we did to the Spanish Flu. The sick were quarantined - not the entire population. The economy would still be affected - but nowhere near as much.
Some will say all of it was to get rid of Trump and sacrificing the economy was well worth it. I'm not that cynical. But I'll always wonder.
Good article below on this topic. A little long but proof for skeptics.

Asymptomatic Spread Revisited
"We keep hearing about how we should follow the science. The claim is tired by now. We know what’s really happening. The lockdown lobby ignores whatever contradicts their narrative, preferring unverified anecdotes over an actual scientific study of 10 million residents in what was the world’s...www.aier.org

Don’t know. That roadrunner teased the coyote a lot, could be construed as bullying. Roadrunner might be too edgy. How about "Vegas Roadrunners?" Due to the movie cartoons, roadrunners are a popular, well-known desert bird. And, it's intelligent: Look at how it outsmarted Wiley the Coyote.
I think the "Roadrunners" would fit UNLV the best.
The UNLV Runnin’ Harry Reid’s!!!!!
The Harry Reid's? Is that the same as a hissing cockroach or a stink bug? https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/facts/madagascar-hissing-cockroach
I’m kind of in favor of coming up with a new name and matching mascot. Let them have what they want.
Then I can say I was a life long Runnin’ Rebel fan instead of being a UNLV fan. It’s kind of appropriate anyway. Give me the separation, cut those ties once and for always, please. Lol.
It’s a good question. If it’s deemed racist, then you’d think any garb bearing it would be racist. I mean, if someone really, really think it’s racist symbology, why does it matter if it’s a mascot or a piece of clothing?Honest question.
If the Hey Reb mascot is so problematic, will they bar people from entering the T&M and Raider Stadium who wear it?
Seriously. If you are going to 'take a stand' against racism, no half measures. That mascot should not adorn any clothing. People should not be allowed entrance if they have it on.
If its racists its racists and should be treated just like the Confederate flag.
Enforce that and I'll buy that this was truly an issue.
Let it slide and it was purely for optics and to placate a vocal few.

If not, it’s just selective PC.
