Harrison Bailey

this might be a sign for things to come. I mean I'm sure he had a lot of offers from power 5 schools.

Absolute huge pickup!! I actually remember watching him play in person at the Geico series that was held at Gorman, he played for an absolutely loaded high school for Georgia. The kid has a tremendous amount of talent huge arm.

I’m pretty sure he will have 4 years of eligibility remaining as well (with the free covid year and this past year could count as a redshirt due to him not playing much) even if it’s 3 years this will be a huge pick up for us I’m excited to see who else can be brought in at the skill positions.

I'm hopeful that this plays out well, but he hasn't shown too much in his first 2 years. On paper, looks like a huge pickup. If he follows the path of other P5 transfers in the MW (Starkel, Haener), then we should be very happy.

I'm also hopeful that we can add another WR or two that can come in and make a big impact. Our QB's need weapons in order to succeed.

I read the part about other top transfers, but I will wait and see if that is based on information or wishful thinking? If we could get a couple more WR's to transfer in to UNLV that would give the team a lot more weapons that they lacked this last season.

Article also called Arroyo a “rising star”. Would love for both that and the statement to end up being true. While I thought there were plenty of steps in the right direction, I’m not sure there was enough for the “rising star” label. Guess we’ll see

Just found this analysis of his game from 2018, when he was in High school still.

Kyle OrtonBUFFALO BILLS

Tall with prototypical size. Has actually trimmed down some from his sophomore season. A polished pocket passer with sound mechanics. Well coached in terms of technique and has a consistent delivery. Has the ability to drive the ball downfield and shows good touch and ball location. Has posted good passing numbers against top competition in Georgia. Able to distribute to all levels of the field. Looks to be best suited in an offense with a run game that allows him to target big wide receivers downfield off of play action. Doesn't provide a run threat and needs to keep improving his mobility and feet in order to be able to evade the rush. Projects as a likely Power 5 starter with an all-league ceiling should he continue to progress. Should be a third-day NFL draft selection.

Not sure what happened with him this past year, but he had pretty good numbers in a smallish sample size as a true freshman. 70% completions with 4 TD's and 2 INT's! Also went 6-6 for 85 yards and a TD in what I'm assuming was mop up time against #5 Texas A&M

A coaching change is what happened. He was recruited by Jeremy Pruitt, who wanted to run a system similar to the older Alabama days (before Lane Kiffen modernized Saban, a more pro style attack) Heupel took over and wanted a more air it out system and and Bailey didn’t fit the vision of the new staff.

Now this could be looked at as problem based off the scouting report that was posted earlier as well as the article stating the philosophical changes Arroyo plans to make, if Bailey didn’t excel in a air it out system before and it doesn’t seem to fit his strengths one could assume he may struggle here.

But playing devil’s advocate maybe a change a scenery, lesser competition, and the experience gained will all add up to him reaching his potential.

All things considered I still think it’s a huge pickup and I hope to see more signings like this in the future.

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasn't aware of the coaching change.

As for the part about system, or coaches liking one guy over another, that can happen to anyone. Even a guy like Joe Burrough transferred to get more playing time after 2 years at Ohio State. He had JT Barrett and even a freshman Dwayne Haskins in front of him while at OSU, so he jumped ship. Turned out pretty good for him. I'm not saying Bailey is going to be the next Joe Burrough, but just agreeing with you that a lack of PT isn't always based on ability of a player.

Wow, that a head turner. Congrats to CMA. Let’s hope we finally hit the mother lode with a QB. We sure are due!

The recruiting in the qb area was already strong. Arroyo knows what he wants and this young man should have the experience factor over freshmen from Coronado. Lots of depth and no tired arms in spring practice.

This is the first interesting football post, outside of the virus, in over a month! Picking up one good transfer will hopefully bring in a handful of other transfers that can turn the 2022-2023 UNLV football season into a winning season! I wonder how many games UNLV would have won if they had a solid QB for the entire season?

Two maybe three more?

So many issues with the O-line last year just about any Qb would have struggled.

WRs had a fair amount of drops...

I expect Randy Masters will make a huge difference as a WR for the QB to use as a tool for winning! Get the players to protect the QB on the offensive line, pick up one more top level receiver like him, and I can see a chance that a good QB could turn UNLV into a winning program next season. Of course, we have all been saying IF for decades!

Wow what a shot in the arm. I'm buying UNLV stock futures. As a recreational gambler I look at quarterbacks the same way I look at starting pitching in MLB. The way the game is set up with the rules geared towards offense the quarterback has now more than any other time the ultimate determining factor of who wins. Just like baseball.

Got a great lineup a stud ace pitcher can render them ineffective. Hence the money line is based on who's pitching.
In football same thing stud quarterback has the same effect. Defenses are pretty much the same (some variation) but more often or not who ever has the better quarterback play wins.

Just look at the NFL if you don't have one of the premier quarterbacks no shot at Super Bowl no matter what scheme or defense you're running.

I'm hoping CMA is the quarterback whisperer. We can turn this thing around in a hurry.

Considering Friel didn't play his senior year of HS and was more than likely a RS candidate until Justin's struggles and Doug's injuries, I thought he played well. Add in porous Oline play...

Arroyo got a lot out of a true freshman..

We are going to pass the ball 40-50 times a game, apparently. That sounds great considering this pickup. However...

Since most of our receiving corp can't catch a ball, and new guys will take time to develop timing, etc., I wonder how the first games of the season will go next year. Hopefully, the new guys adjust quickly.

That would be amazing! Anyhow, I found it interesting that the article linked above stated that Bailey is the fan’s favorite. What does that mean?
Usually it means they don’t have to be the best, but their effort, demeanor … something about them - endears them to the fans. Sometimes they are the best player but not always.

Not to sound like a stickler but, we didn’t do anything with Tate, what are we gonna do wi this guy?

Need a RB pronto
Don't we have that RB who transferred from Oregon and got hurt after a game or two? He's big and fast and should be serviceable at least in the Mountain West.

Anyone know when the spring semester starts? I would imagine most transfers would want to be enrolled in spring practice. Should know relatively soon if we’re getting any additional transfers. Given the rhetoric surrounding the early signing day, I am guessing there will be a few. Unless of course there was quite a few swings and misses

Didn’t it already start? I don’t care about his academics, I just want him out there for spring ball.
